You are confusing tedious with tough.. very big difference.. no map is hard its just annoying.

No many people like to spam easy mode lurms, which is what Polar is designed for..

Actually lurms are a noob trap on polar.

Polar doesn't offer cover from the rain, but it has enough trenches and gullies to make breaking los a doddle. Breaking los is essentially what you need to do to counter lurms anyway.

Yea, until you get it on group queue, and one group is being cheeky and has 3 LRM boats with a NARCer. That is not fun.

I always thought it was a shame PGI didnt rent servers to clans (whatever you call teams) Stupidness like this would vanish instantly cause those who would not behave simply get excluded from high skill servers.

So, I and my unit just experienced something extremely bizarre. In group queue, we had probably 4-6 groups of two or three man groups like usual, and it ended up getting voted Domination on Polar Highlands.

And two players convinced 8 of our teammates to Suicide into the Redzone because, and I quote,

"**** this gay *** map, this is your fault for voting for it, anyone who votes for this is gay."

Even the other team was blown away. I've never seen a mass walk out via Mechwarrior. And parties involved said they'd do it again. And have done it before.

I reported them, of course, but you can't actually report 8 players out of a single match, and if this is going to be a trend within group queue, that's a problem.

Anyone else seen this ridiculousness?

I find the hate for polar Highlands to be kinda odd. Polar is one of the better designed maps we have. The objectives on conquest and domination don't particularly favor one side over an other. The spawn points are well placed the out of bounds areas are difficult to accidently wonder into.

Meanwhile we have a huge following for what is probably our worst designed maps like HPG manifold.

HPG due to map design has so many problems. Invisable walls, out of bounds zones that are easiily accesssable, and arena style design that removes the use of pretty much three quarters of the map. a massive central design ellement and litterally gated points of entry to that central feature that creates predictable and repetative game play. Yet HPG is super poplular but from a design point of view it's one of the worst.

Seems like the majority of players want to be spoonfed nigh instant engagements at near point blank ranges on tiny cold maps.

I like Polar highlands but it does make me nervous when I have short range weapons: wait, wait, RUN!, wait, FIGHT! As to brawl spooning, I wish Frozen City Night was at least in the rotation.

On the other hand, you haven't really played the game if you haven't team executed your vip at least once for impudence.

Actually, Polar was apparently designed to punish the stupid in as obvious and visible a method as possible. I can't count how many times I've seen someone die slowly on top of a hill, steps away from a trench they refused to use because apparently, blazing away at 500m with their medium lasers had to be done versus opponents with longer-range guns, missiles, or what have you.

I mean, my favorite game on Polar was sitting there s-l-o-w-l-y (and at horrid ammo efficiency, but it was just too funny) tearing apart an enemy LRMboat who was firing constantly at me about 10 meters too far for the range.

So I just dumped ammo into him (immobile, constantly firing) until he dropped dead. No moving to cover. No moving up to actually hit me because, y'know, his crosshairs weren't going red on account of the perpetual range issue. Nobody else shooting at him, either.

If people had the brains to actually use Polar's cover and not rush out into open areas because a straight line is the only route they can imagine, it'd probably be a lot less painful. For them. But no. Instead, it's the perfect showcase for showing off all the stuff you HAVEN'T learned, which makes it my favorite map to watch dumb things happen on.

That was one of those delicious moments of being accused of LRM hax.

With ATM launchers. Those outrange LRMs, BTW.
