Scouting In Quick Play Pointless?

PSR is strictly based on damage output? No wonder the percentage of light mechs is so low. There should be some consideration for scouts and more people would do it.
This is just my humble opinion. You are entitled to yours so comment below.

If I'm in a light I try to rotate between flanks to keep track of things, but there is no reward in that.

Correct. Damage is the only thing that is really rewarded in QP. PGI wouldn't raise points for non-combat roles and objectives because of the potential for abuse (agree or disagree). There is no doubt that AMS, ECM, Spotting, TAGing, and Scouting are all very useful things and help your team win (which itself is not really rewarded appropriately). The result is win or lose, damage is the most important thing to players. You can get actually get grief from people for trying to complete game mode objectives even if your team is losing.

It doesn't make sense to us either, but it's what we got.

Agreed. Most everyone meets in the middle. Scouting is not needed.

I agree with what you said. My concern it that this way of thinking from PGI discourages the use of lights. They made the piranha OP in dmg output and it gets played a lot. Lights aren't meant to be frontline damage dealers. They are meant for scouting and harassing. Playing it like it's meant to be played is not rewarded.
I think they could curb abuse by giving points for scouting activities like narc or tag or capping a higher weight in match score for light mechs only. Maybe even mediums but that's math for the brainiacs to figure out. I just want to see more lights doing their thing.

Absolutely. You can see this thinking in the design in many of the early light mech designs. They are not competitive to new release lights at all in terms of raw firepower. Once upon a time when they allowed map choice and there was an active subset of alternate mode players. Conquest was a blast with a dozen lights running around.
They do award points, but it just doesn't compare to what you get doing active damage. They gave them a small boost once, but not enough to save QP roles and alternate game modes.

In MWO every weight class in intended to do damage and participate in combat. You can or may scout, but whats it worth when i know before the game has already been started where most players will be located and where combat will happen? Scouting is worthless because we all do the same old *** every *** day...
I can tell you from personal experience that (some) lights are more then capable to do combat, to contribute to the battle and influence the outcome of the game. In the end, most of it comes down to pilot skills and not the type of mech or build, this goed for every weight class.

Good players will know and see what you do, if you completly disrupt enemy lines, opening windows of opportunity for them, or bottling down an assault that cant disengage, stopping their nascar or splittiing them. You an do a lot in scouting mechs. Fast mechs. Can win the game like that.

Don't scout in QP UNLESS you have a TEAM to utilize your scouting.
That means you MUST communicate with your side at a minimum.
To maximize your 'role' Group.
You cannot efficiently Scout when your side has 11 others doing their own thing. You need a TEAM.

Yet no or limited rewards for doing so.
Option one: Use a Raven 3L and NARC loads of enemy mechs, plant UAVs in advantageous locations,Draw enemy mechs off the battle lines with feigned base caps and in general be a highly effective spotter and recon platform for the team and earn an = for PSR on a win
or....
Take a Clan light machine gun monstrosity and mash your 8 - 12 MG alpha strike and run around playing for your own stats (be damned teamwork) and frequently earn an = for losing.

And to make lights "competitive", they gave them tiny little hitboxes. Many times a straight on shot, no deflection, into CT of a Cheetah, and no damage recorded. 5mpls and no damage taken. running in a straight line.
That's how they mad them competitive.

Hate to burst your bubble there buddy but This affects 100 ton mechs as well. Love it when people think Hit Reg ONLY affects lights
