

Mw5 Happens, What Happens To Mwo?

So out of curiosity, do any of us know what will become of mechwarrior online once mechwarrior 5 hits the masses? Is mw5 going to have its own multiplayer or is it only a campaign that people have asked for, for so long? I swear I have seen hints in patches and tweets about "limitations of this game engine" like there is a consideration of bringing mwo out of cry engine. Would seem reasonable that with a working mechwarrior title on unreal that mwo could be revamped and brought into modern times and be the multiplayer element of mw5. Not to mention, not making so many people feel like they have lost so much in all the mechpacks they purchased over the years.

Players of mwo have long wanted pgi to just outright say and do that they are working on mwo 2 bringing it to a new-er engine. Many have made claims of willingness to buy mech packs if that funds were used only for that purpose but we end up with trans fail,poor map designs,bad mechs and mech animations, still nerf lights for no reason (jenners.)
don't worry russ knows what is best for his game and we are not the target demographic.

The content is easy enough to convert.
It's the backend bits that you don't see that are going to be complicated.

My hope is that it is very successful and that the demand is there for PGI to consider a proper successor to MWO and with it funding.
Although Solaris is not hugely popular with players, its execution has given me a bit more confidence in PGI and so far the videos for MW5 look strong.

Disagree with that too.
They won't even change hardpoints on mechs or balance base tech in a appreciable way because "muh lore" and "muh boardgame."
They spend an incredible amount of time and effort catering to grognards, often to the detriment of the game.
And think about some of the mechs released in the last year or so. Many of them have been ultra-bad, and they only released them because they would appeal to grogs and lorewarriors.

I remember seeing that years ago. Though with the recent trailers for mw5 it looks like the assets transfer just fine. Its all the workings that probably don't or won't. And the idea of it being a patch was mostly a joke.

Funny, the 'lore warriors" and 'groganrds' were not the ones asking for the Thanatos, Uziel, Hellspawn, Cougar or Black Lanner... that rests on the shoulders of the MW4 people. In fact the "Lore Warriors" and "Groganrds" were warring against those mechs, saying that they would suffer in MWO's environment...
As a "Lore Warrior" and "Gorganrd" myself, I'm happy to ditch the TT rules to make the game would as a FPS, just keep the lore and feel of the universe. TT rules are not Lore, just as Lore is not TT rules, they are two different things, that a lot of people get confused into thinking are the same thing.

Then I am a progessive Lorewarrior then... I want things that are different yet the same, like say the Lords Light PPC on the Panther shoots more often for less damage, while the Donal PPC's on the Warhammer shoot slower but for more damage each hit, the net effect is same DPS for the weapons, but different characteristics based on manufactures.
To me, that is being a Lorewarrior.
Being a TT gorgnard (TT warrior) is wanting MWO to play like the TT games, and I see that as holding the game back from what it could be... I mean hell the freaking father of BT made changes to the stats of the weapons from their TT incarnations for HBS's battletech, why should PGI feel beholden to the TT rules, if it keeps them from making a better game.

we will see how it all works out and hopefully it does well, any problems will likely get fixed with modding,

Russ has said its hard to change things this late in the game for MWO, such as slower mechs ect.

Yes MWO is too far down the PvP twitchy path now but MW5 and PvE
which leads me to beleive that MWO:2 is more likely as it will allow PGI more flexibility in changing up the system,
taking what they learn from MW5 and implementing MWO:2 as a true multiplayer component to MW5,
thats how i see it happening anyway,

Then they found themselves modding the heck out of Cryengine and creating the Frankencode that they have now. Some of which I don't think they understand because the people originally responsible for the changes are long gone. This explain why they often do not do what seems like a simple change....they are afraid that they are finally going to break something.
MW5 is announced and they are using Unreal engine for it. Do you not think that by doing the game on Unreal Engine that they are not learning how to use it with Battletech and developing the skills to implement it into a newer ("more Improved!" " Better!") version of MWO once they've brought out MW5? Of course they are.
As long as MW5 is successful and isn't a "Transversal Failure" they will find a way to use Unreal in pushing out a new MWO product and start the mechpack cycle all over again?

The intention was for MW5 to be the PvE campaign experience, now with co-op.
MWO is to remain the PvP experience with it's various modes.
While there was some discussion on moving MWO from CryEngine, there is no evidence or suggestion that will ever happen.
There has been suggestions of an MWO2 rebuilt in Unreal based on the foundations of MW5, but this has come from the players and is only a 'what if'.
