Last few days Assault Mech pilots pissed me quite a lot so I stopped playing MWO for a bit (to cool down and POE expansion is out :). I usually play Viper fit mainly for short range brawl.

Situation 1:

Enemy Light attack our Assault and dances around him. I notice that I go to help. I start fighting light and then suddenly my arm is gone. That assault I was helping tried to shoot light and did heavy alpha dmg to me. I know that it is hard for assault to hit fast moving mech but I was there so he needs to gtfo and shoot some big slow targets and let me deal with Light.

Situation 2:

Open maps (e.g. Polar Highlands). On such map I cannot directly engage without full assault of team. So I wait and protect others from enemy lights that unwisely engage our group. 5 min later and assaults are still in back line. Heavies also stay back. So I get bored and tell that I will initiate and others should follow. Sometimes it works and sometimes does it sure beats waiting 5 min and doing nothing.

So my question is are all Assaults this bad? Am I bad and I am misunderstanding something? Is it due to my Tier 4? They most of games stay far back, do not go to objective (domination) although no1 is standing there and we will lose game in few sec. Another thing - when some1 DCs in 90% cases it is assault. Do assaults need better internet then rest of us?

You're almost there my friend. You've noticed that there are bad players who drop in Assault 'Mechs. Now you need to apply that to the remaining three classes of 'Mech ;)

No, not all Assault pilots.

From your post, you do not sound 'bad', reads like you have your head in the right spot as a fast mover pilot.

Think your misunderstanding, if there is one, is thinking teamwork has a place in QP, more often then not it doesnt. When it does show it face, teamwork by design or accident, you see it's result as the curbstomp.

Right or wrong, I get the impression your a team style player. It is very easy to get angry as a team player when your side is not playing as a team.

Seek out like minded team players and play as part of a team and you will have a whole new game open to you.

Situation 1: Thats the engine de-sync for you. Otherwise known as the brawling and Assault nerf.
Have fun trying to hit a light mech in an assault when your mech moves in slow motion!

Situation 2: Polar Highlands is cancer. Its 5 minutes of marching to the frontlines to get lrm'd
to death. Either that or its 10 minutes of hiding until both sides collectively decide to fight
and brave the LRM/Sniper hell.

I think we have already gone through this.

The species of Assault Mechs on Your Team.

1. The Assault that is AFK.
2. The Assault that is Disconnected.
3. The Assault that is late. He's almost AFK but at the last moment starts moving. He could also be a Disconnect that managed to reconnect.
4. The Assault that wonders off at a different direction from the team.
5. The Assault that brings LRMs to a brawl.
6. The Assault that dies early in the match and makes less than a hundred points.
7. The Assault that hides behind your Medium and Heavy mechs.

Vs.

The species of Assault Mechs on the Enemy Team.

1. The Clan Assault that rips through your team with Ultra ACs and score over a thousand points of damage and kills five of your teammates.

I saw these on my team often :)

What pisses me most is that I go to help out assault and he does full alpha on my torso and Viper is quite squishy. Now I approach our assault same way I approach enemy Assault :)

Your best bet is communication. Tell the assault pilot (via VoIP, noone reads the textchat) "XY ignore the light, i got you covered." They might (just might!) listen to you.

There are some amazigly bad assault and heavy players. They should play mediums first to learn how to position themselves. Yet, they screw your team by doing 100ish damage. Most matches I lose, the assault and heavy mechs did between 100-200 damage while the lights and meds played normally. However, often the lights and meds cannot carry

Maybe, but the impact of a bad Locust pilot is minimal, whereas a 100t failure is not so minimal... Assaults carry huge firepower and thus they also carry a huge responsibility.
Furthermore assaults are difficult to master, more difficult than most classes, and thus require really good pilots to make good use of them and shoulder their responsibilities.

Assaults are hardmode, and a good assault is worth its weight in gold. But driving an assault while being average or even a beginner is usually not a good idea. Unfortunately it seems assaults are often favoured by beginners, for whatever reason...

Another factor is that many assaults are just obsolete. I take out my old Highlanders and they literally suck, even becoming those sub 100 damage point mechs. But when I take out the Blood Asp, I become a beast.

Assaults took the brunt of the beating from the engine de-sync. The only ones worth taking are the most mobile of the bunch, and those are all clan. Mad Cat Mk. II is the current king, especially in solo queue. It's flexible, fast for its size, can fit jump jets, good hardpoint count and placement, and good hit boxes. MAD IIC has always been a solid choice. BAS is OK, but kinda the Mad Cat II - lite. Anything it does the Mad Cat will do better minus ECM. Warhawk is still a solid performer. Most other assaults are next to useless. Being slow means you're dependent on your team, and since most matches devolve into NASCAR you're SOL. You'll be the first to die along with the enemy team's slow assaults. MWO players don't know how to stop and turn around. If you still haven't caught the enemy team's tail, but they've caught yours, it means you need to go faster, not turn around and help your buddies.

Pretty much. Assaults are pretty much pointless now. Except for sniping or Lrming.
You have to huddle like a herd of helpless cattle in the murderball or die from light ganking.

Don't fire on the Light that firing on you, fire on the Light that is attacking your teammate.

Advanced tactics such as that are best left to those that have teammates.

It will take a slow moving assault mech less than 5 minutes to make contact with an enemy if they desire to on Polar.

And point two is after marching to the "front lines" why STOP? if the enemy is Lurming you to death make the logical leap that standing where you are is getting you killed and close in on the long range specialist. At close range sniper builds and Lurmers get clubbed by brawlers.

I really enjoy Polar highlands as a brawling map because of the prominent avenues of approach that allow rapid movement in defilade.

It's seriously a cake walk to cut into the enemy flank IF YOU JUST KEEP MOVING! The thing is the average player on Polar marches up to the point of contact and then hunkers down into cover. During this time your team can just sweep their flank and club them quite handily if they could just stop playing stupidly and keep moving.

It's idiotic to stand out in an exposed possition with open sight lines or hold possition and wait for someone to gain an open sight line on you. Since pretty much everyone in QP does this anyhow you may as well be the one to be proactive and seek out the fire lanes and sight lines on the static enemy and press the attack.

By pressing the attack you steal the initiative and force your opponents to play reacionary to your team's actions.

Polar highlands is cancer. Its a crappy map that leads to crappy play styles.
If you try and approach your just going to get sniped or LRM'd if the enemy team
is awake or not AFK so no one moves. If you try the trench flank you'll get brawled
and LRM'd to death most of the time. The map needs to be taken out of rotation or
get a massive fix.

Oh come on. A good assault pilot will always beat a good light pilot of he seems him coming, unless the light is smashing right up against his legs, but that's rarer than you'd think in quick plays, at least in my experience. I'm a primarily assault pilot (check Jarls, I played like 70%+ QP assaults last month) and I can count the number of times I've been ganked by a light mech on like one hand. They are annoying, true, and can often divert you for a while, or strip weapons off you (which is BS, machine guns critting out your guns from the back instantly needs to be toned down) but they don't often kill you unless you let them.

Yes and how often does a light charge right at an assault mech? Unless he's counting on his lag armor to save him.
Most assaults are simply obsolete now, the Atlas being a prime example.

Oh wow! You're... You're talking teamwork... Excuse me, I think I have something in my eye.

...

Okay, mayhaps Quickplay is not the place for you. When I drop in quickplay, it's to pound out a quick match to test a build or grind an event. The matches are brutally short, and I don't really consider the team much, because I find that's the norm. Now, in CW that's where I go for my team play.

Have you looked at joining a unit? I hear some folk work together in Group queue as well, though I find it a mixed bag myself.

And I am straight up telling you that you are wrong. The assaults are still the kings of the battlefield, the lynchpin on which victory is decided (at least in quick play). Some assault chassis (most even) are trash, but that's no different for any other weight class really. Most mechs are trash. You gotta pick the right ones.
