So I was thinking about what happens when you die in MW:O and the controversy that is going on over perma death vs re-spawn (those being the extremes). But however the devs decide to do it there will always (I am assuming) be some sort of risk involved with combat weather it be your mech on the line or a few thousand C-bills. This could be rather daunting for newer players, or even just a player that does not feel well accomplished in the world of MW.

So what if there was a training ground option. You pilot your mech against others but at the end of the match there are no actual losses or gains other then what you as the pilot take away from the match. This could be extremely useful for regiments of houses to train, try out new tactics and help new players learn. Perhaps certain planets could have certain training grounds and if you gain control of a new planet that is an added bonus.

Is this a good idea or am I off my rocker on this?

I don't like polls asking if something "should" be in or out. It's not for us to say what should or shouldn't be part of PGI's game design. For that reason, I can't vote unless you change the phrasing of the poll question.

That said, I would be in favor of a training simulator, as long as it doesn't count towards your actual pilot experience, but don't think it should absolutely be there.

You have a very valid point. It has been modified to fit your suggestion.

Thank you for that! I have cast my vote.

I think, like you, that it would be important for Mercenary Corporations to be able to put recruits through some sort of trial, where their skills could be assessed without the risk of them losing their 'Mech (i.e. go through a simulation gauntlet under a certain amount of time without being critically damaged).

It would also be nice to be able to practice formations and tactics without having to rush through an actual battle.

Yes it would be good to spar against your teammates so that you can test your new mechs before going into battle.

Yeah, simulators are a good idea. I'd even vote that graphics be bumped down or something for that "simulator feel," just for the heck of it. :P

That is what I was thinking. I would really hate to come up with a great new strategy only to have it get my lance flattened because of a little flaw.

Additionally to the lasr comments would it be also good for noobs. This way they may learn all necessary things like overheat etc. and don't start wining afterwards. Keeps noobs at bay and they won't quite directly because they lost their precious mech.
But I wouldn't like to downscale the graphic andt you may use standard Mechs only, but all of them.

Honestly, I hope this in as a type of match. This way you can que up how ever many players for training. Say my house/merc group wants to try some new tactics out or even see how different mech lances work together. We que up for a training match say if we want others to be involved or even how we would like to split our group. Then off we go to work on different aspects of using our mechs. I really hope they do add this type of match into the game.

I like this idea, it prevents the actual missions from being turned into a braindead FPS deathmatch.

Make the training gtounds take place on a neutral planet called Noobworld and I'm with the idea!

Cute. :P

But it doesn't even have to be an actual planet. In a universe where they have capital star-ships and lasers they should be able to do a decent training simulator.

I say "Yes" to this, simply because I need a place to verify my controls once I set them. In BF3 this is a huge problem. Every time I customized my controls, I would have to go into a real combat game to see if they felt right. Needless to say, this is a very bad way to 'see if this control scheme works'.

Voted yes, I mentioned an idea in another thread (can't remember which) where it would simply be a lobby set up the same as any other match but where there was no risk/reward (i.e., no risk of 'Mech losses, but no c-bill or salvage rewards)

A sim mode really needs to be in the game. Its great to test out new tactics or load outs with risking money, etc. I'd also like to see it not count towards tracked stats, XP, or anything. Also I'd like to be able to drive any chassis in it, but with a limit to how many times you can drive a chassis you don't own. IE test drive chassis you are interested in buying, but make its low enough to encourage people to buy a chassis instead of running sim mode all the time.

A training sim would be nice also as a part of character creation, after you make your pilot you go through a training or series of training excersizes introducing you to the controls and the concept of how the mech works. Then maybe they can have a "graduation exam" (put you in a certain mech and make you face off against a certain number of increasingly difficult enemies perhaps) and use the final grade to determine or modify your starting XP?

Yah, at the end of the exam, if you kill one mech you are a mechwarrior. Two a star commander, three a star captain..... :)

I like the idea of simulator matches. Every new pilot gets 10 free simulator matches but after that you have to pay for the simulator matches. Tie the cost of the match to 5-10% of what you would make on winning a real match based on whatever formula they use to payout winnings(xp, mech type, etc). This keeps people from living in the simulator matches tweaking tactics or load outs without ever playing in real matches.
