And why the departure from the way it looks in the lore? Why this ugly mech?

The looks are very badass. Very modern, not this ancient humanoid looking robot thing that has been designed with the ability to scratch its balls like most mechs, but a real machine of war intended to carry weapons and wreck stuff up.

The last event offered medium champions. When looking at the lists, it seems PGI stopped doing (C) variants a while ago - can't say I miss those, quite useless waste of in my eyes.
If you have a look at the Champions sarna.net page, you'll see that there are no variants except for the clantech one that has JJs. This time PGI is kinda keeping with established variants. The look is weird though.

As I look at this more, it starts looking like unique-skinned Rifleman. I think it would definitely look better if they took it down the Crab route for aesthetics and perhaps hit boxes and tankiness with full armor. But again, not sure what the lore-based legs were supposed to look like as any pictures I see were at weird angles.

Maybe next one will be the Argus or Crusader. I do want to see more pre-invasion mechs before more 3053+ mechs, so that was probably one of the reasons I was kinda glad to see the Champion. Though looks like it's living up to its lore reputation as being an under-performer from what I see in this thread lol.

Actually, it will be the IS version of the Ebon Jag/Cauldron Born, except the Champion will be superior, since most of the Ebon Jag builds will be worthless after the Clan Nerfs and the Champion will assuredly get extra-generous durability quirks. So if you want to buy a Mech, I would pass on the Hellfire and buy this one.

I find it hilarious-I'm pretty sure some guy called this a few days ago when people were wondering about this month's mech.

That said,the amount of people complaining "But I wanted (insert other obscure and crappy mech here)" is always funny when you guys release an unexpected machine.
