Well, you sound like you had a lot of fun. I do not see any purpose in the game. It is easier to play this than other games. Not well, but you can rip off 15-20 minutes with little thought.

When I started it was an FW event and that was all I knew. And I no longer if ever saw a point in it.

The Unit I'm in has changed and has gone up to 180 players but it is just a collection of guys and not a "team".

You know what makes "a collection of guys" a "team"?

team damage. I kid you not.

DevlinIncognito once waxed poetic about the virtues of shooting your teammates in the back. For one thing its a reminder to everyone that this is just a frickin game, and also, so long as the team damage is not crippling or only focusing the same player(s) all the time, its a reminder that you are part of a larger whole, whether you are the noob or the best guy on your side...

Its like in "Braveheart" where the chicken king at the end finally gets a spine and asks the troops to "bleed with him"... with team damage, you are saying "bleed with me... don't worry, I'll help!"

Here's a little exert from Devlin's "pep-talk" post:

It has come to my attention that some of you do not understand my reasoning behind my little acts of friendly fire, and you may think its some kind of twisted sense of humour that leads me to do this. Its not, there is a reason why I do what I do, so I thought it would be a good idea to clear things up, so take a knee as I impart knowledge upon you like the true tactical genious that I think I am.

Focusing.

I've noticed that some of you have seen how relaxed myself, Pug and Nag are in a FW match. You see us bantering and messing around and assume this is some kind of ... game ... that we're playing. Well its not people, this is SERIOUS BIZZNIZZ!! (<- 2 exclamation marks, just so you understand how serious this seriousness is). Faction Warfare isn't like your usual Quick Play hi-jinx, FW has a long standing effect on everything. If we lose a game in Quick Play game it doesn't mean anything, whereas if we lose a Faction Warfare match, a planet changes colour. That's right people, it changes colour. How would you like it if you woke up tomorrow and expected your usual blue sky only to throw back the curtains and be rudely shocked by it being green? I think you'd need an extra coffee before leaving the door wouldn't you? We have dropped literally THOUSANDS of drop between the 3 of us, so if we seem a tad relaxed its because we are, not that we aren't focused on what we do. So if I shoot you in the legs its because you aren't focusing on the SERIOUS, and I WILL snap you out of your funk.

Man I miss this guy, literally. I haven't seen him in months to be able to shoot him!!

I can remember one QP game where three of us were on a team that smashed the enemy on Grim and we were at 5 friendlies to 1 AFK enemy.

As per usual the three IDI members start the "love taps" and end up each legged, Devlin may have been a little stripped. Anyway, the AFK returns and immediately kills the other two players as they run into his DZ to "finish him off". At this point everyone is shouting down the 3 of us for almost killing each other and guess what the formerly AFK enemy see's the state of our Mech's and finishes us off. Needless to say IDI was blamed for the entire thing and all sorts of BS was written in both all chat and team chat along with the self-righteous VOIP indignation....... scoreboard comes up and the three of us had more kills, assists and damage than the rest of the team combined. The team damage penalty was HUGE and the team damage figures dwarfed the actual damage figures but we enjoyed ourselves :)

I might have been borderline 228 material myself, but alot of people don't realize how many of us came out of the "pro" scene and could acquit ourselves adequately in the game, sure we rather kill each other than get farmed by EVIL in their prime, but why let them have all the fun?
That's what this unit was about, fun, GD IT!

There are now 5 separate ways to drop. PUG, solaris 1v1, solaris 2v2, invasion and scouting. If you don't have the playerbase to get a good PUG group together, all the other ways simply bleed off players, so you will never get a good PUG group together. But I don't think Microsoft wants it to be a successful game. They do want it to be a successful data gathering system.

I totally agree. Once PGI started MW5 I think MWO was being used as just a test bed and funding tool. My unit had on 12 members, but we were mostly hardcore fans and could run 1-2 lances most of the time. we dropped to 5 active (one in a diff time zone so only 4 really) then solaris mode came followed by Battletech. I think 1 other member still plays (not me).

This game is in a death spiral.
