it looks way more like the Goshawk II than the normal one, still not bad looking, and way more survivable than the original would be.

I didn't realize how pervasive tobacco use was amongst clams, the fact that they had to design the totem mech "Vaping Eagle" for propaganda....

One good thing about the skill tree system (and the associated C-Bill costs) is that it makes me think more carefully about whether I want to buy a mech pack or not. In this particular case, I'll feel quite comfortable waiting for the chassis to be released for C-Bills, and trying out one variant before deciding on possibly investing in other variants.

An ATM12 could be nasty as well.

While I don't quite like the nerf the hero has for that MASC, it still looks like the bloody Guren Type 2

don't let me down pgi!!

"The Goshawk incorporates large arm baffles, a familiar feature of the Griffin. On the Goshawk, however, they serve a different function. The Griffin's arm baffles act as blast deflectors, while the Goshawk uses them for jumping. Most designers agree that when a 'Mech jumps, it is largely an act of brute force over aerodynamics, as most 'Mechs have all the aerodynamic stability of a brick. The Goshawk attempts to rectify this situation with stabilizing wings. These small wings in themselves provide negligible lift, and so some of the thrust from the torso jump jets is diverted over their surface. This action produces a very controllable jump flight and provides smooth and precise landings."

The hero needs a 2nd missile hardpoint. It has less hardpoints than any other variant by far. Even if you count MASC as being worth a weapon hardpoint (it isn't) there isn't any point in having just one missile hardpoint. Unless you intend to run a NARC for some absurd reason.

You can make an argument for an ATM9 or 12, since they maximize the damage potential of a single hardpoint much like heavy lasers do for energy. Otherwise, yeah. A single missile hardpoint just isn't really worth it.

Agree the shoulder pad like features need to be longer (at the very least, double the current length) and angled farther downward.

PS. Not buying it until its look gets at least this minor fix.

At least that was only a concept art, hopefully they fix that in the game.

One more thing, I was briefly worried when that lawsuit was 'settled', thinking that there are no more unseen coming, but I am glad to be proven wrong and here we got another unseen.

Picked up the standard pack. Was thinking of picking up either the special variant or the hero for the c-bill bonus, any preference on one or the other? Thanks!

I've initially ordered the Standard Pack and I'll likely upgrade to the Collector's Edition just before launch so long as the end result doesn't raise any red flags. With 10 weapon hardpoints including multiple hardpoints of each weapon variety I see the VGL-1 as a very versatile mech for most people and well worth the c-bill buff.

I see the VGL-RI 'Rival' as a good mech for those who are comfortable with mechs like the Shadowcat or Ice Ferret - faster mechs with fewer hardpoints that like to hit and run or snipe and reposition.

If you're a fan of mechs like the Bushwacker, Shadow Hawk, or Huntsman I think the VGL-1(S) might appeal more to you, while if you're a fan of the Shadowcat, Phoenix Hawk, or Ice Ferret I think the VGL-RI 'Rival' might appeal more to you.

...and I agree, the longer shoulder pads are more true to form to the lore. Very nice suggestion. PGI...thoughts?

I actually like how it looks in the concept art, but I just had a thought that it would be cool if the metal tips extended to about twice their length when you do a jump jet burn. If we can have things like missile doors and lights and sirens, why not extendable aerofoils keyed to the jump jets or ones that just extend when a falling velocity is encountered?

It might also be interesting to see the jumping variants have jump jet based quirks or some sort of reduced falling velocity to keep with the lore. (edit: Now that I think about it, the non-jumping VGL-4 could benefit from a reduced falling velocity quirk too, when falling to lower spots of the map)

this actually looks to be a nice merger of the original and phoenix project. far better than that abomination people dare to call a Fafnir. but the head dose have an anime feel to me for some reason. and as suggested by Max I do like his suggestion to bring the shoulder pads down further. but I think they are suppose to help with its jumping according to lore.
