QOL issue.

When invites are sent from either your friends list or the LFG can we differentiate somehow whether it is for Group Queue or a FP Group.

There has been a few times where I have had an invite, before even getting on Comms, and ended up in Group Matches when I was expecting FP. I feel it a little rude when I leave the group at the end of the match (which I didn't want to play but stick it out anyway).

Nice list of proposed changes BTW. I really hope a lot of it will get some action.

Didn't they do a global reset of Faction affiliation 6 months or so ago?. Still agree it needs to be dynamic based on active pop. though.

Not that I'm aware of, in game still shows Wolf/Davion as over populated and new factions well under.

There's an entire FP forum you can do that in. Let's keep this as the FP discussion points for a FP update.

From the April 2018 patch notes, here

Faction Play Changes
Season 2 has now begun for the Invasion Era 3057 in Faction Play!
This means that all the Maps, Mercenary and Loyalists Contracts and Unit MC tags on all planets have been reset.

I took this to mean that all contracts were reset. ie the whole playerbase

Can we confirm whether this actually happened? If so it would mean the current faction balance numbers are correct(ish)

Would the lifts we have in Solaris work better in some circumstances?
I would think it would give the bases some additional structure for those maps which might be nice.
A hanger to cover them perhaps.

On the topic of removing quick play maps.... there aren't enough FP-only maps to make the mode interesting without QP maps. I'd actually be in favor of them adding the rest of the QP maps in, actually.... FP on Mining Colony, Solaris City, and Viridian Bog would all be a lot of fun and add some much-needed new variety to the mode!

Would love to see the invasion maps more often again. I also miss the mode where gates/gens are inactive and its basically skirmish on the invasion maps (hell, been so long I forgot the name, ?counterattack?).

Need more invasion maps :)

Also, please consider removing alpine/polar from the list. Those maps always end up in a stale 30 min battle and the time it takes to get back into the fight is tiresome (might get mitigated by dynamic spawns).

Heh, I actually like polar on FP... it's fun when you can take correct mechs. Alpine can become stale if one team gets a much better position and pins down the other, but the worst part about it are teams that barely move out of their drop zone and basically fight from it the whole time.

They did, everyone had to get their faction contracts anew.

Having QP maps / modes in FP is not actually a bad thing. It adds variety to the gameplay and has people adapting their drop deck composition and strategy to different conditions - something they'd never do if it was just siege mode ad nauseam.

I thought so.

Which means if Wolf and Davion are overpopulated it is either because of large units (HHOD?) or a lot of people are just loyal to those factions.

Perhaps we need a Wolf v Davion event.

Perhaps the counters are bugged?

There are only 3 populations to balance as far as queue's are concered, Clan, I.S. and skill. the 1st 2 are covered by people mercenary faction hopping faster than kangaroo's, whether people are Davion or Steiner has no effect on the game, why give people bonus's for signing up to Liao when it has no effect? Lore would be great, but that is not Lore, that is substanceless bonus rewards for a different logo.

Is Faction Play a find the most competent friends for a "Team" stomping skittles game? or a Work With random people that may disagree with you and not have as good builds as you / have the same desire for meta builds as you for "Teamwork" and closer more exciting matches game ?

Out of those 2 options I know answer of MOST of the forum posters (who are not the majority of the playerbase) is the former. And that is why the population is so low, and will continue to be so low if not shrink even more.

I am following this thread for a bit now and just read Paul's list.

The whole time I kept asking myself: "will this motivate my unit to play FP again/more" and there is indeed a single point that could have that effect. It's unit objectives. A mechanic around choosing it, seeing possible rewards and maybe even a public unit log where successful objectives can be seen would really make a difference!
Even greater would be if a different unit would get a counter-objective to that, effectivevly working against your own unit. Could make epic unit battles possible again.

Plus unit decals on the map. I know PGI fears that only obscene images show up but a regulating system like the report system on player names would be sufficient methinks. It would really motivate units to see a decal on the map or anywhere in the game.

Well that is probably something Paul should add to his list to investigate.

Note I only picked HHOD because I know they historically have a large number of players and it only take one person to shift them from faction to faction.

I'm currently away so I can't check... And right now due to event, probably pointless as many will be stacked for current event...The point I'm making actually doesn't change.

Say you have 5 large units, 100 players each. 95% are inactive. They sign to Davion.
Now you have 5 other units, 20 players each, 95% ACTIVE. They sign to Jade Falcon.

The Davion (IS Side) side appears to be more populated. However as the unit is largely inactive the calculations are wrong. It really needs to go off ACTIVE players / games played. I feel a 3 month period is reasonable, for 5 games played. That then counts you as active in terms of the population.

General thought (might be tangent to above): The (short) period of split queues represent to me the pinaccle of FP. The lone starrs tho quickly realized they were the minority and sadly the queues were merged again, driving a lot of units away - bc, drumroll, nobody likes sealclubbing. Maybe going the way of the groupqueue is the only way to bring some units back.

How many "Team's" are there left ? 12 People with the same unit tag dropping together ?

How many of those Teams would have the MAJORITY of their matches end in results Closer than 36-48 ?

Your team game is dead unless you help rebuild the playerbase in solo ssr queue, In which learning to work with others would be more difficult and more rewarding than your current "find 11 other meta players who listen to comm's" system.


I often play in Big groups, I often queue solo, both have their benefits and rewards, I usually play Meta builds, many people do not.

"The lone starrs tho quickly realized they were the minority and sadly the queues were merged again" The lonestars realized all the casual players were busy testing out the brand new game that had just been added called scouting, before they got bored with that queue's were remerged, the lonestars also were either trying the brand new game mode, or had to join unit queue to play 12 man queue. (I was not a "lonestar") I think I was still a decent not amazing pilot in a large unit.

How will sticking a joystick OR stock team OR low mechanical skill team in group only queue vs Evil/Kcom bring units back ?

I for myself am one of the poorer ones in my unit with about 250.000.000 cbills. There are Unitmembers with about 1.500.000.000 cbills and more and we are waiting full of joy to help our recruits ;)

OSOs went international btw, we have guys on board from many countries in central europe. Guys who dropped with us know we are mostly speaking german on our TS (but not necessarily) and we always try to implement our guests!
