The Longbow. Same Old Assault Lrm Mech Or Different?

Would it being equipped with Arrow IV make a difference?
I'm thinking of what a nightmare it would be for some people if they logged into the game one fine day and saw 4-5 longbow assault LRM mechs on each team.

its bad enough that people make their brawler assaults into LRM boats as is
I would much prefer to see new assaults without missile hardpoints so people dont mistakenly get the wrong idea about what assaults are for.

It's effectively a L.R.M 20 that delivers 20 damage to one location plus 10 splash damage.
It's a pointless addition, as there are other chassis that can, do the same job, and look better doing it.

Meta sells. It's the only thing, outside of whales buying "everything offered in sets or three and four", that will sell beyond the diehard's that are left playing actively.
It was one of my my favorite mech from the past games; even with limited functionality.

if players are going to waste tonnage on lrm assaults id rather them have an assault thats built for it.

Not to mention the chance of some decent missile quirks, which most Stalkers and Cyclopses lack.

Well depending on how Alex redesigns the Longbow will tell how high the high mounted arms will be. And seeing how those arms are basically missile drums the Longbow will lend it's self to being a pretty good MRM platform.

PGI tends to issue quirk values for weapon types based on number of correlating hard points, which is why you see so many instances of, for example, massive ballistic cooldown percentiles on mechs with 1 blasted ballistic hard point and 4 energy/missile hard points that have 0 associated quirks... So the chance a Longbow would have much, if anything, beyond a standard IS Assult Armor/Structure suite is minimal.

Depends on the hardpoint inflation. The default Longbow comes with 2E + 4M, which would likely be inflated with either two extra missiles or two extra energies for eight total. Perhaps there would be one variant exploring each of those two options. Assuming 4E + 4M, the closest comparison is the Battlemaster 1S that gets 10% missile cooldown and 10% missile heat (okay quirks but nothing huge).
The LBG-7V variant has 6E + 2M stock, definitely a candidate for good missile quirks and likely a decent platform for MRM vomit (MRM60 + lasers).

It all depends on whether you hail from that intellectual school of thought that says assaults must solo charge, be focused down in 10 seconds, and inflict 90 damage while the rest of the team hides.

I don't think that school of thought exists anywhere outside of fallacious internet arguments.

Four extra missile hard points for all variants! It is the Longbow after all and we need an Assault Archer... It's long overdue.

Assaults are slow platform with a lot of guns. Built for doing more damage than all other classes.
