They probably weren't planning on a tie. Nobody tries to achieve a tie at the outset.

As OzHomerOz says, they were probably trying to get the enemy team to blink first.

Lets say the guy stayed with his team, IMO two thing could of happened

1) The enemy would get frustrated and impatient and cross, hopefully in ones and two's. Why Because no targets are visible.
At least now its a 12v12 fight not 1v12.

Yes, in fact, better than that. The impatient PUG enemies almost always come across in smaller groups. So it's more likely to be 12 v 4, than 12 v 8. Much better odds of winning.

Of course, it's better for teams to just be aggressive and keep moving. However, sometimes you do get a group of PUGs who just want to stay put, and you're forced to be patient and use your brain.

This is why I always teach my unit mates patience. Cause the other side will sooner or later slip up and we can get a win from a match that could go either way.

Kind of like that episode in Band of Brothers where Lt Winters charges out but his men all stay behind waiting for the smoke to go off. Except the OP ain't Lt Winters and doesn't seem to have made any plan for anyone to follow him.

Thats why sniper maps are terrible. No one moves for fear of getting killed.
Bring back the old frozen city.

First of all, frozen city skirmish, always fight in the E7 / F7 area. If your team didn't do that and the other did, well then you're the odd ones out. That's the normal fightin' place there.

As for your strategy... yes, the optimal strategy in this case would be to poke with ER lasers and strikes, trying to kill one of the enemy. Because if one of them died, then they'd be forced to push into you, where you have the advantage and can kill more of them. You got impatient though and ran at them. You say you killed a rifleman... was it already weak? If so, your team might have been able to finish it from range and you effectively died for nothing, costing a win.

If you're dead-set on pushing against what the rest of the team does, did you do it intelligently or just yolo-solo style? I mean, did you try to go along the D5/D6 area where there is plenty of cover? If not, then that was bad. You need to try to make your move effectively instead of just getting impatient and getting bored.

In the end, you were not a team player, because your team DID have a strategy, and you decided to ignore it and do your own thing because you were bored. Next time, consider maybe bringing a mech with longer range capabilities so you can be of use in a situation like that. A Battlemaster BLR-1G can do very well with a 3 LL + 5 ERML build, which has decent range.

Judging from his post, the mode was most likely Assault, where two sides usually stare at each other across the valley.

I initially thought so, but he says in the OP that it's skirmish. Granted, he may be mistaken, but that's what he wrote.

OP I feel for ya. You have to sit through an incredibly boring, waste-of-time match, and then you come here to the forums to vent a little and get pig-piled by a bunch of Rommel-wannabes who seem to think its okay to waste everyone's time sitting for 15 minutes and doing nothing. Pay them no mind; tomorrow they'll be complaining about LRM assaults who aren't "up front sharing armor," and the last light that hides, shuts down, and "wastes everyone's time." LOL.

Matches like the one you describe are hell on a player's stats, if you follow that sort of thing. Fifteen minutes is a long time to stare at a monitor twiddling your thumbs just to come away with the draw and a 2-digit match score.

So here's to you, OP! I'm glad you got to wreck some **** before the match ended. Glad also that you got the kill and the draw, but I'd have felt absolutely zero sympathy for anyone on that team if it had been a loss.

Short of troll TKing, I can't think of a crummier way to play the game.

Then it is better if such before kart racing and Killcount fidgety player solaris play without a team where they need no great tactics and instant action ... War games have just sometimes real tactics as in real life ... because fidgety cadets will also first ... but can not complain anymore...BT Players most more wil, playing like ARMA not Unreal Tournment..wait of the right position and Time for the Clash or when good Units in Brawl aggressive Rolling...each Build, Situation and Battlefield has his own Tactic...thats its really not for Actionplayers...than better playing Hawken

If teams are static, I fight, die, move on. No point wasting time, you don't die IRL.

Simple policy the other 23 players are free to waste their own time but not mine. If it's eight minutes in and nothing has happened I YOLO and let it fall how it falls. Sometimes I die alone sometimes it lights a fire under my teams ***.

Either way hats off to the OP.

I used to rally the team to play the "patience" game in QP assault(*) drops. Whenever the team cooperated, it was an assured win. But alas, the player composition then was so much different (i.e. better) than what it is now. So I don't bother anymore -- assuming I even get the now rare urge to actually play, that is. I will most likely just "force the issue" by either killing one of the enemy or getting killed trying.

Then I will goad the now disadvantaged team to either do something or lose. <maniacal Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image>

There is just one problem. MWO is not set up as a so-called "war game". It's nothing but an arena-based eSports wannabe. The fact that most people use the word "match" and not "battle" is more than proof enough.

Sounds like The Plan" was to make NO C-Bills, NO XP and have absolutely NO "FUN". Unless... sitting in a cockpit for 15 minutes, hoping the "other side" will do, what you should be doing, actually playing the F'ing game..., is considered FUN nowadays... :(

Let's hope, for the sake of any new players, that that match is the "exception", and not the "rule"... Would suck to have a new player think that is how MWO is played after they get a new Mech... :(

No matter if this happened in Skirmish or Assault.....Assault on Frozen does need a re-work, as many Assault matches play out (to some degree) like the OP describes. It’s the worst map/mode combo (not counting all things Escort) in all of QP. Needs the Dz and base locations reworked to prevent “stand-offs”.
