I feel FASA messed this part up. it should have been Clan Green Chicken to nuke Turtle Bay so the IS could have removed them from the game. dont know why but I loathed the green chickens from the beginning . which makes little sense cuz my favorite color is green and about the only birds I like are raptors and ravens and crows. every other bird can go extinct.

I believe the lost ranks are because you fought against this faction - the more mechs you killed from a faction, the more it subtracts from your progress. Bad for people faction hopping (well actually just a minor setback). But now with the 2 bucket system I don't believe we'll have to worry about that as much.

The penalties were for when you 'deserted' your faction. Would basically give you a cooldown time before you could join another faction. Now that there are no penalties we can hop factions to our hearts content, especially before events. Or even during events for those who aren't picky.

this could be a rescue mission sort of like recovering troops from France at the beginning of WWII

the IS could dispatch several jump ships and drop ships to the area

It's spelled Nod, not NOD. It's not an acronym. It's a reference to the Land of Nod from the Bible.

It´s not the start of Bulldog. Turtle Baywas bombed because some Yakuza freed Hohiro Kurita from a Smoke Jaguar Prison. It happened before the Invasion of Luthien, in the middle of the Clan Invasion
