Look OP, it is only P2W if you have to spend real money on it. You can buy consumables with C-Bills so it is not P2W. Doesn't mean I don't want consumables to be gone--I do, but your thread is just ridiculous. Stop it.

I did it last night with three different mechs and builds: Whammy 6R (PPCs +UAC5s), EBJ (8 cMPL), Victor 9a1 (dual HGR). Strikes are not necessary for big damage, kills, and destroyed components.

I did it on my fresh Clan alt with a Madcat Mk II-B (bought and kitted out thanks to Academy rewards + cadet bonus + event, sold off the stock weapons, put in 2xUAC10+2xLB10, later replaced stock engine with CXL 325), no strikes, no cool shots... no SKILLS even.

On April 12th 2018 i had a match w/o Consumables (bcs i never use any for disliking them at all in the way they are implemented w/o any significant repercussions) and did 3kmd, 2kills, 1018 dmg and got a 656 matchscore out of it.
(I have a screenshot of it but i lost my Pictureshare Service account data as i never used it and i am to lazy to recover it)

I think since then i never got any matchscore above 500 at all and recently it has become harder and harder to do any good.
My recent last match i had 2kmd, 1 kill, did ~280dmg and got some ~270 matchscore.

On the bad games i dont live long enough and on the good games i am almost to slow (Speed + Damage Output) to keep up.
The OpFor Mechs get obliterated so quick i often dont get any shots at them...

Yeah, i dont run the biggest baddest Mech available so i accept that in exchange for piloting a Mech that is fun to play for me.

True. The enemy team spammed like 5 air strikes and a couple of UAVs and still lost 12:4. It made me smile. However, I think consumables are the pest because they are bloody annoying

Got it in the Lurm Trial Stalker Champion build on the first day of the QP event. No UAVs or arty, just semi-honest LRM damage farming at 200 meters.

Maybe the playerbase is that good bcs it takes little to kill a Mech and the Question is from what would a high matchscore result come when the kills are spread even and you dont need more than 300 Damage per Player to kill all OpFor?

Consumables are here to stay.

There is a tree for them in the Skill forest, so that will never change.

Maybe you, can't get 500 plus without consumables.

Also that while Molten Metal, is an enthusiastic player of the game, he's only an above average level of skill, he's not one of the exponents of this game.

Look it's totally doable even if you're not a world beater at this game.

Out of 66 games over the course of two days I've racked up these 5 that while consumables were used on them I don't think any are within the margin where that's what pushed it over the edge. If anything the lesson seemed to be bring big ballistics or have a good day in a triple AMS mech. Also all of these were achieved with an 8 week old kitten gnawing on my ankles and intermittently jumping on the keyboard.

So I believe in you.

PS. that is in no way what pay to win actually means but I do agree that consumables do advantage longer time players who can afford to burn the Cbills vs newer people who really have enough going against them without that extra kick in the ribs.

Every mech comes with one consumable slot by default. Choosing not to use it is like choosing not to use some of your mech's tonnage and then complaining about the guys who do use it all. Of course you can do well with a mech build that doesn't use all its tonnage, but you clearly would do better if you if you used it all. Same thing with that consumable slot.

It has no repercussions, nothing of it.
It takes Slots that cant be damaged so it does not crit out even if you would try.

Its totally non immersive, non gameplay consistent!

Yeah, you can kill the Mech but i would like to have that much armor on any Armament/Equipment i field - then we have a really high TTK!

@OP, I think you mistyped the thread title. When you type 'you' it refers to others. You'll wanna change it to 'I' to reflect the complaint. Anyways, there's tonnes of good threads on here for build considerations and positioning to help you out, but if you something specific you wanna work on, let us know. Just tell us what you want help with. Why aren't you getting the match score you want? Dieing too early, not putting out enough damage even if you survive a while? Let us know, and then we can offer some specific advice.

I mean, right now, all we can tell is you're wrong. More info'll gives us more to work with and we can actually help.

OP you are right, that without using consumables it is more challenging. First you play against your own team. If a lot of players in your team are good or using a lot if consumables it is hard to reach 500 for an average player. If you are on a team of complete morons you lose the game and 500 is even harder. So for normal players 500 strongly depends on the team composition and their use of consumables or in other words chance. Using consumables only increases your chance.

My tip: use mass LRM on sight with tag, the well known ballistic boats, rac stare builds or in my case a vindicator 1x that strangely gives me more then 500 match score every 2. Game. You will get a 500 score in 1-15 matches if you are not completely careless. Ah and I almost forgot, try to stay alive as long as possible without being a coward, so you can accumulate the bonuses.

Non-immersive?

All I need to call in artillery or an air strike is a radio and a digital map, both of which the Mech already has.
