Did someone say Kingfisher?

Also, don't forget Turkina... CJF STILL doesn't have their own assault design in game.

I am. Though admittedly, I didn't find the Phantom to be at all compelling for MWO when it came up in discussion.
Also, do you guys have any idea how long the fan in me has been wanting to make a Crusader/Wasp/Stinger/Valkyrie pack?

I'll admit, I'm a speed freak. Faster = Moar Better for me, which is possibly why I hate engine desync so much. The Phantom is mostly compelling to me because of micro lasers, but I understand it being too over-engined for the majority of the MWO playerbase.

Plus, it's the spiritual successor to the Fire Moth, and since we can't have the Fire Moth...

I wish we could give the fans those old designs. I do. If we were still doing 'Mech-a-month I'd have absolutely no issue with them, even the Wasp and Stinger. But man...it just feels bad for the last 'Mech we ever get to be such a ho-hum also-ran.

Still, thanks for chiming in. Good to have even some hints. Looks like I can scratch off my Phantom desires at least, heh.

Phantom sounds like it would actually be super fun.

146.8 kph before speed tweak, 10E with ECM, more without?

More fun than the Crusader...

I'll admit, to be fair to the Crusader people and acknowledge my own bias, the Phantom would be very limited in pod diversity. It's got five and a half tons of pod space if you carry maximized armor, which is...not blurdy much. It's enough with the level of energy spam it has - ECM, quad HSL for hole punching, hex ERUL for dueling/thickening up the barrage, and an extra heat sink comes out to 5.5t - but you don't get to do much of anything but lightweight laser spam on it. I happen to really like super-fast ECM-capable lightweight laser spam and feel like the Phantom would be amazing as a pursuit and hunter 'Mech, but I get where other people would consider the 'Mech one-note and boring. Probably not a fantastic use of the last 'Mech we'll ever get, much as I personally would adore getting to fly one. Jet fighters with feet are my bag, no matter how mediocre I do with them.

Would love to see some concept art for these mechs, even random drawing of the three in your free time because I've been itching to see the three.

Make it happen!

Millions... you'd make millions! Everybody would buy it. Tell your boss I said so.

Let's be clear, here. A small handful of 'Mech Dads are lining up to throw money at PGI. One does not and cannot know whether that will presage opening the money faucet. PGI did indeed make a nice buck off nostalgia with the Warden pack. The key difference, however, is that the Warden 'Mechs were very good. The Crusader is very bad, and most overcome its badness with nostalgia rather than empowering its goodness with nostalgia. This is an entirely different equation that must be balanced and considered. Should nostalgia be considered more profitable than Gudness - which is not necessarily unlikely - then the Crusader would be a very sensible choice. Should nostalgia prove less profitable than Gudness, the Crusader would end up backfiring badly.

There's only one way to truly know, sadly.

Sometimes nostalgia and goodness can overlap, like how the Urbanmech sold like hotcakes.

This means that there's only one solution.

Wait… so you personally want one of these puppies for the speed, despite the pathetically small pod space for a 40 ton mech? And you’re suggesting the CRUSADER has bad hitboxes!? This thing looks like a Jenner decided to live life like a hermit crab inside an old dumpster! How could you miss those torsos!?

Just curious, where did MWO say that there would be just one last new mech chassis that would be introduced, ever?

I mean, to be fair, the Crusader is basically a Valkyrie that decided to shove each of its arms up the butt of a separate UrbanMech and use them as Popeye arms, but only after taking the missile tubes out of an Archer and forcibly gagging each UrbanMech with them before putting the empty shells on its shoulders like a feather boa because that one villain dude in Fifth Element was sassy and fabulous and the Crusader decided it wanted to live that life too. Hueh.

But yes. I acknowledge that the Phantom would be a subideal choice for our last-ever 'Mech. The Crusader is probably going to be that 'Mech simply because Sphere heavies are the moneymakers. Heh. I'm allowed to pine for my super-fast ECM capable beamspam huntress the way y'all are allowed to pine for your robot Popeye's Chicken mascot Posted Image

EDIT: Piranha never explicitly stated that we'd only ever get one new 'Mech, if that, but approximately 100% of the playerbase knows it to be true. Piranha is absolutely, positively loathe to spend any more than the barest, merest token of resources on this game. They're basically stringing us along to milk us for more money to put into MechWarrior 5, as their manifest screw-ups in the past have made the MWO playerbase too jaded, cynical, and close-walleted for PGI's tastes.

This Renaissance can only last so long, and once it winds down PGI will go back to maintenance mode with a smile on its face and glee in its heart. It believes this game is dead, too. So yeah. If we get a new 'Mech - which is a big "if" - we will only ever get one.

So we'd best make it count.

To play devil's advocate for a sec, there could be an argument made that it's more about them just lacking the resources entirely (i.e. single-digit staff count) rather than having the resources but not doing anything with them.

But either way the outcome is the same.

I thought the whole-*** PGI team was on MW5. I know they've got something like four guys max working on MWO, but all the MW5 guys used to be MWO guys. They got reassigned, and they could get reassigned again, but we all know they won't be because PGI actively dislikes this game.

I mean, if I'm wrong let me know, there's apparently some history I missed while I was taking the better part of three years off.

A dream Crusader for me would have 2 missile hardpoints in each arm and side torso, 1 missile hardpoint in the CT, and an energy hardpoint in the head. Then quirks to sensor range, locking speed, missile cooldown, and jump jets. And, of course, it has to look like a Phoenix Hawk on steroids.

It's a Wasp on steroids... Phoenix Hawk is of course just a 'Super Wasp'.

I tried to find a clip of the old Robotech show where their 'Crusader' (Armored Veritech) sheds it's armor that I do remember even though I havent seen that show in like 40 years. But alas, Couldnt find the exact scene, but found others.

The Japanese were weird.

But even my Ral Partha miniatures have them being very different sizes for Battletech, which in MWO size scaling would of course make the Crusader much bigger than an armored Commando, thank god. And the current Phoenix Hawk is YUUUUGE.

Man I really want the Wasp in game... did I mention that?

Gotta love a good Macross Missile Massacre. Man. Imagine if that was even just one percent as effective in MWO as it is in Macross. LRM80 would be the stuff of nightmares.
