Team damage and Team kills happen, sometimes it's because a player is too careless / inexperienced and or doesn't care about team damage, sometimes it's because he's out there just to grief the rest of the players but sometimes team damage happens and it's totally the one receiving it who is too blame. Since killing those poor clueless souls that found their ends at the end of friendly barrels because of their exceptional situational un-awareness already got us a 10 second spanking from PGI, let's at least have some fun sharing those fateful and, usually, ridiculous moments.

PS: No name shaming.

The other day I was playing in Rubellite Oasis, it was an easy match for us and the game was already in that phase when enemy lines crumble and your team surges ahead to get those last C-bills. I was below one of the elevated platforms in my Sleipnir, and in front of me there was a battered enemy Battlemaster that was being harassed by a Piranha, the kill was going either to the PIR or myself which would provide a SOLO kill to me since I had been working on it previously, so I loaded the HGausses, aimed at its open CT and before the PIR finished it off I finished charging and released the volley feeling assured the kill was mine, but alas just then another greedy team mate wanted the same kill and dropped from the ceiling to Kill Steal/Secure (depending on perspective) the battlemaster, unfortunately for him (and me) he landed just in front of me while facing the Battlemaster, that's right presenting his unexpected and unwelcome butt to me just when I fired. In the end he got killed, yelled at me a bit, I got punished by PGI and the PIR got the kill :(

So the question becomes, how is the Network, you're playing MWO on, suppose to tell the difference? The only other way is not penalize the "grievers" and everyone just has to put up with it.

Pick one... as you can't have it both ways...

Not so much a TK story but a question:

So folks talk about lag shield and other supposed advantages that the really small/fast light mechs enjoy, but I gotta wonder:

Why is it so damn easy to accidentally shoot one of these kill stealing little ******** when they are on your own team, but I can barely target em when they are on the opposing team? :)

I do dmg mostly via strikes.

Trade with somebody, put a strike at their feet and somebody rushes not only right in front of my guns and fire but runs straight into the strike.

I think most ppl dont even look for red smoke.

face tankers deserve to be backshat. thats just poor teamwork. its a good thing that they sometimes die with no malice on the part of the one killing them.

I do sometimes run into friendly fire knowing full well what might happen. Trying to get a bit more damage can be dangerous with teammates around shooting at the same target. I’m ok with this as long as damage is not too bad. I often move through the team’s firing line to get to a better position.

I'm reluctantly moving into the camp that most people should not be permitted to breed.

I've only had it happen two or three times that I can remember. But I always apologize if I can. Even if it was their fault. I don't care if they get upset after that. And getting hit with a 10 second penalty is fine with me. It's not like I make of habit of accidentally gunning my team down. So I haven't gotten a bigger penalty than that.

I only distinctly remember a light running across my field of fire and getting slammed with accidental AC fire. Oops.

If both players are on the same team, like in the same unit and group, team killing and damage shouldn't be penalized.

Done it few times by accident, by far the most destructive TK was when I was using my ATM-36 SuperNova and let loose a full volley at an enemy assault... Which died a fraction of a second later, less than 250m from me... and a friendly light (might've been a locust or raven) ran between me and the dead assault.

End result: Parts of the light were flying all over. I practically destroyed every parts of his mech with that single volley.

tks happen. some by accident, some not.

that being said, when they 'happen' for somebody to learn something..
education is a good thing and shouldn't be punished.

I accidentally sniped a friendly light via clan ERPPC a few days back, thought I had a clean shot.

I also managed to shoot down a friendly UAV in my zeal for shooting down enemy UAVs...

Just want to be clear, your punishment for first accidental team kill with more than 3 damage was only 10 seconds? Because, I got hit with a 10 minute spanking because some cored derp ran into my strike on enemies, and got killed from only 3 damage on my very first game on the 21st. So there was absolutely no buildup of punishments. Sent off a query to support, and didn’t hear back until today.

Boom-Jager 2xAC20 to the back of a light team mate. We've all been there.

Legged plenty with "land-mine" Streaks.

My most interesting TK was by LRMs. After PGI changed the targeting box behavior (remember how it used to totally disappear once a Mech was dead?) I was giddily launching LRMs at a target about 600m away, not realizing it had been destroyed. A friendly walked over the corpse and took the full brunt, coring his side torso and XL.

I didn't yell at you! I enjoyed every bit of that guass. It was my opportunity to finally frame you for the crime and make you do some jail time! I carefully positioned myself just above you and timed my jump perfectly... bwhahahaha Posted Image

Most of my team damage comes from one of four sources:

1. dumb fired lrms that some one walks into where they hit
2. air/art strikes.
3. hardware issues while trying to fight in one of my lights in a brawl. gtx 660 still does pretty good for its age except for certain maps with a lot of missiles and acs firing.
4. Trying to stop an active tk-er. I have no problem tk-ing an active or known tk-er to salvage the rest of the team and playing the rest of match trying to win the match.

iF you place an arty strike on a uav, you can potentially shoot it down if one of the shells collides with it... i've done it enough times to know it happens. The funny bit is when you get THEIR uav and one of yours also....unfortunately along with your locust under it who put it up there...
