Sounds nice, but I have no clue how to even start doing something like that. Would one not need to post a video to the GFM site? I have no means to record any video. I don't know anybody who does.

LOL, the microphone I use for in-game VOIP I ripped out of an old broken gaming headset from around 2000 I came across and soldered a length of shielded cable and a connector to. The bare condenser-mic element dangles from the wires near my keyboard.

The old HP Pavilion tower case the guts are in sits under my computer desk with the side open with a box-fan blowing into it to keep my current GPU from overheating when I play MWO. (the FX5350 APU surprisingly doesn't seem to be overheating, however)

This whole setup is SO patched-together and 'ghetto' it's ridiculous! Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Ah, i know that feeling(the blind part), I lasik'd my eyeballs as soon as my career kicked off since I work in the compute industry, prior to that I couldn't see past 5fingers in front of my face.

Man I'm sorry that's a tough pill to swallow. I retract everything I said, do what brings you joy in life.

I have two computers, one is has an Intel I7-7700 chip and 12 gigs of DDR4 and the other an AMD A10-5700 and 16 gigs of DDR3. Both have GTX 1050 cards with 2 gigs of memory. The I7 ON every map except solaris city sees 60fps or better with everything medium except high effects and low environment on 1920x1080 full window mode. The AMD at best sees 30fps with everything low except medium shadow, and windowed and smaller viewing area. I would say that's pretty clear evidence that the limitation is the CPU and its memory, NOT the GPU and its memory.

No lie I will buy you a GT 1030 if you'll accept it. You could save your hard saved $85 while that money means almost literally nothing to me.

PM me your shipping info.

PM sent.

Wow...just wow, thank you so much I don't even have words, man. I used to be in a position where I was able to help new or struggling guitarists with a decent axe here, or an amp they could gig with, etc. I'm extremely grateful.

I had received that new(er) GT 730 from Amazon and installed it. I gained about ~5 FPS but it still chokes completely on Alpine, bad but semi-playable on Polar, and same with Canyon.

I was going to try to return it and just go back to the old card until I could figure out something else.

You are a gentleman and a scholar, Sir! We are ALL lucky to have you here as a fellow Mechwarrior! <o <o <o

Regarding the 1030, Nividia has done some extremely anti-consumer labeling recently with one version shipping with DDR4 RAM instead of GDDR5.

https://www.forbes.c...u/#78d98a1693d9

This version is extremely crippled vs. the normal version and should have never been made. Be very careful before clicking the buy button. The both carry the same 1030 name.

There is also an inferior 3 GB 1050 out there but the situation there is not as cut and dry as the 1030. Performance can be slightly better or worse than the real 2 GB 1050 but you are generally paying more so there is no point in getting one.

Video cards will be cheap in a few months. It is no longer profitable to farm Crypto Currencies using GPUs.

This is the only real game I play, so not looking for a rocket, just something to get me out of the low-res basement, without breaking the bank.

Current rig, getting 27-30 fps on lowest possible video settings.
HP 6200 Pro 320w power supply
i5 2400 @ 3.10 ghz.
16 gb Ddr3 1333 ram 1600mhz
Zotac GT 730 card 4gb.

Can't financially do a whole new machine. I may be able to either upgrade the processor OR the card this year.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
John

With only a 320w powersupply you really can't upgrade your graphics card. My suggestion would be to upgrade your powersupply and make sure that new powersupply has an 8 pin connector. Make sure the board has a current graphics slot and get a 800gtx. The CPU looks like it should be able to handle the graphics load without bottlenecking. With that said, I was able to run MWO with a 660gtx at high graphics settings with my old rig, I just ran no AA and it ran smooth as anything. Hopefully that helps.

@ OP

Something to consider that has not been mentioned is planning a bit more long term while still getting perfectly playable performance in the short term.

This is especially important if you are planning on picking up MW5 next year.

Basically pick up a ryzen 2400g (4 core 8 thread), a b350 or b450 mobo (micro atx, maybe mini itx)and a single stick of 8gb 3000 ddr4 ram (and maybe a 500w psu). The integrated graphics is stronger than the card you have, the cpu is more than capable going forward. You can put in a gpu + another 8gb ram in a year while still gaming at 50-60 fps in mwo for now. It'll stretch your $300 budget but it'll be worth it long term as you can game on that for the next 5+ years.

I made a post a few days back on here with benchmarks. Ill see if i can paste a link to it.

short term a 200-300 $ gpu + psu would be better for a year or two at most though Id be a bit worried about how MW5 will play.

Here is the link: https://mwomercs.com...ith-benchmarks/

cpu+cheap b450/350 mobo + 8gb 3000 ddr4 ram should be just over $300

I was using a Nvidia 550 TI card before my latest upgrade to a 1060. Sadly, it didn't improve performance much. I'm sure I need a new CPU and motherboard at this point. Got an AMD Phenom II X4 970 from 5 years ago or so.
Still, I was getting ~30-40 fps average with the 550. Gained maybe 5 fps average now. Most of my settings are low but I like to bump up textures and environment so mechs look nicer and the ground doesn't deform as much.

Late to the party,...

I got myself the similar system (HP 8200 elite) when my last rig got fried. I managed to salvage Gtx750ti 2G vram from old system. But, I could not use it as PSU&MOBO combo, so I googled and googled and found how to customize of the shelf PSU to work with this MOBO, so I now have 600W PSU in Posted Image
I used this video tutorial on how to customize PSU in order to work with this MOBO, DC step up module cost me like 3 USD:

i5-2400 3,1Ghz
8GB ddr3 1333 ram
Gtx750ti 2GB
600W PSU

It does the job, running stable at 45-60fps, 1080p, low settings.

Honestly you are best off scrapping the system. Even a rig with integrated gfx at this point is superior to that rig. A 2400G Ryzen, 16gigs of ram, a 500 watt powersupply, will blow the dell away for not much more than the cost of a decent gpu that probably won't even run with the pc you have properly. If you want to do it on the cheap anyway. $150 for the cpu, 70 for the motherboard, 100 for the ram, 60 for 550 watt power supply. $380.00 reuse your case and existing hard drive and your off to the races assuming you already have windows 10. But how much better is the Ryzen 2400Gs integrated gfx than your card you might wonder?
https://gpu.userbenc...m283726vsm12582

https://cpu.userbenc...0G/803vsm433194
The Ryzen2400G is actually a bit better than a GT1030. As you can see it blows your existing setup away. And given this game is so cpu intensive you need a good cpu. The 2400G is a good budget builders setup, and with the B350 motherboard you can always upgrade later (also with the powersupply you can too. right now your rig is too crippled to actually upgrade with imo)

https://www.amazon.c...words=16gb+ddr4

https://www.amazon.c...&keywords=2400g

https://www.amazon.c...350+motherboard

https://www.amazon.c...tt+power+supply

Just reuse the hdd, and case, and junk the rest.

Now if you have a budget north of 400, you can be WAY better off. But this will give you a foundation (motherboard, power supply and decent ram) to upgrade your cpu, and buy a dedicated gfx card with later.

Well, I was very short on time and budget, needed the machine to finish the project within 72h. And I got it for 100USD, so, it paid it self in first 2 days of use :D

and i thought my "whole thing hanging from hooks in the wall" build ive been contemplating was ghetto. its basically an upgrade to all the parts laying on a slab of cardboard on my desk build that it currently is setup. hooks is expensive yo!

note to self, order more zip ties.
