Because event name isn't enough incentive to log in.

edit:
Actually it wouldn't hurt if Steam news page also had events listed in addition to patch notes (though for some reason the latest patch notes aren't there) as another vector to get users back into the game. Obviously that requires events to be viewable without logging in.

You have to log in to see the event rewards. MWO might be the only game where you have to do so. Usually companies put up an ad with the reward for some event then ask you to do something to get that reward, here you have to do something (log in) first before even getting to know what reward will be. For someone like me who isn't very interested playing solo MWO atm it's enough to drive me away.

If only there was a way for a browser to allow you to stay logged in...

People cant be bothered to spend one minute to check up on events? Is this some new millenials' BS?

Why back in my day we patiently waited for the screeching of Netscape Navigator, in order to connect to Mercnet.

It's companies job to make it as convenient as they can for their users/customers.

Way back I used 56k during night because it was impossible to connect during day/evening but this has nothing to do with bad design or you being unable to comprehend why it is bad.

You're already logged in to post in the forums anyway. It'd be nice if they had the option to do everything through the program, but I get that they don't want to put in anything more to an already clunky UI.

Ah, don't bring the generation wars into this gramps. Besides which, internet? What Sorcery is this? In my day we used floppy disks to install our Mechwarrior games, as god intended.

And why do you need to log in to see? Why? Why purposfuly put effort into building that wall when it could just be regular text. I understand for the silly REDEEM thing instead of just granting things but not being able to preview?! Just why? Whatis the reason? To boost login statistics for investors?

Setup your browser to remember your username and password so those fields are already filled. Now you just need to click on the sign-in button when you want to view the event rewards.

Of cause PGI could maintain separate reward-pages without progress information for each event, so you don't need to log in. But i think this is a minor problem for most users, so i'd like to see PGIs resources spent elsewhere.

I'm still laughing at you making big deal of something so miniscule. Telling people to skip events cause you need to sign in to redeem stuff? Wow, what a crybaby.

Of all the reasons why MWO's population is so low, the log in requirement is at the very very bottom of the list.

Asking user to do something that can be done without user doing anything is wrong way to do convenience.

Lazy mode is PGI writing a script that uses dummy rewards page to create a static reward page (with some extras like "log in to see your progress" button) that would be shown when not logged in, that would require zero maintenance.

If you actually used your brain you'd understand that this little thing that takes very little effort to implement while making a nudge to bring a bit more population into the game making it very efficient deal. This, along with numerous other QoL and NPE stuff that MWO lacks is one of the reasons for your low population, big baby.
And I'm not telling people to skip events, I do skip and so do others.

We are required to type the password every time we launch the game. The ease of use is ignored at the very basic level. Why would less important features be any different?

When I want to see the rewards, I go to the challenge page. Since I'm always logged in, I never have to sign in first. There are 0 barriers preventing the viewing of event rewards, unless you put them there yourself.

Welcome to every online game that requires an account. At least that I've ever head about. Much more common these days than it used to be. Games remembering your password on launch are rare now.

I've played a couple that remember your password. Though I'll admit that I have no idea how common it is.

Actually, saying that, I remember a few in the late 90s / early 2000s that did this. However, most of the ones I played changed to require password entry after too many "Why was I banned? It was my brother playing, honest!" incidents.

I'll edit my post.

The reason you have to sign in is because the page data queries your account to fill in the status. That's just how they coded it.
I use a password manager utility which automatically fills my data in. I just click Login.
The fact that passwords aren't saved increases security so I'm fine with it.
Really, you would expect everything to be kept inside the game client for events and everything and not even have a webpage, but it wasn't designed from the ground up this way and instead added later and that's basically a good summary of why everything here is a little clunky in the first place.

It's not about you who "is always logged in", get outside the box. I get logged out, that means there are other people who get logged out (or browse not from home etc.), none of us can view the rewards, some log in to see the rewards and then decide if they want to play the game, other just ignore the game because they don't want to bother logging in = PGI wasting opportunity to increase player count despite already investing by actually making an event.

If your only going to play MWO for crap rewards and you cannot be bothered to use a browser that has password management, like nearly ALL of them now, then the QP pilots thank you for not having to carry you too.
