The current divisions are just sad and occasionally frustrating. Would be nice to see divisions that do not include assault vs most anything not an assault.

How about 4 divisions, Lights, mediums, heavies, assaults...Oh wait

Maybe 8 divisions, good lights, bad lights, good mediums, bad mediums, etc.

Or 4 Divisions Bad light and Mediums, Good lights and Mediums, Bad heavies and assaults, good heavies and assault,

Pretty much anything would be better than the way it is now.

to quote Sarna,
  • Class Two - Light 'Mechs: Duels in Class Two are often stunningly fast and savage, where maneuverability usually carries the day.
  • Class Three - Medium 'Mechs: Duels in Class Three usually provide an excellent balance between speed and firepower, balance and tactics.
  • Class Four - Heavy 'Mechs: Duels in Class Four are usually a slug-fest where armor and firepower carry the day.
  • Class Five - Assault 'Mechs: Duels in Class Five are often contests of sheer brutality, where the amour and firepower usually carry the day.
  • Class Six - Open: Duels in Class Six usually offer a mix of tactics, firepower, speed and style not seen in any other class. While the other Five Classes are open to specific 'Mech weights, Open Class combats are open to 'Mechs of any class. Only the five Solaris City Arenas are enabled for Open Class combats
this is what Solaris needs.

Div 2: Onion IICs

Div 3: Arctic Wolves

Div 4: Piranhas Wolfhounds

Few more days its not going to matter because there will be no one playing. We still have 7 launch buttons for no reason.

At some point PGI will understand what people ask. Until then keep posting about the 4+1 divisions (depending on class) free for all mode.

If you reduce divisions you will decrease amount of viable mechs as well.

If you reduce divisions and sort mechs by weight class you decrease the amount of viable mechs. If you increase divisions but still sort mechs by weight class you still decrease the amount of viable mechs. Weight classes are arbitrary, and shouldn't be used for sorting or tiering mechs.

What if they only allowed a certain number of mechs per division, rotating mechs in and out throughout the month? So that the top 'meta' mech of each division changes throughout the month. This would make it difficult for some people who don't have the right mech. But it would force some variety as the top mechs are rotated out.

Let's face it. There are always going to be metas for each division. Which will drive away anyone who doesn't run meta mechs.

This is a huge issue if not properly handed. Locking players out of Solaris for not having the right mech would make Solaris more dead than it currently is.

You could make the mechs free or cheap rentals, but even then balancing by committee and choosing a small pool of mechs will lead to stale gameplay and you still have the risk of having one mech dominating Solaris.

Honestly right now it isn't too bad. I have had many mechs in divisions that I think are viable. Because of the heatsink changes.

It's an issue for the lower divisions where you have to buy a bunch of weird medium mechs that you would never own otherwise. Luckily they are pretty cheap.

Make the build that ended the last week with the highest win loss ratio, be the trial mech.

This will cause it to be fun and varied, as people will get to try out all sorts of good builds and it will encourage innovation.
