he is one of the Pod people. He is building vessels to serve his ultimate masters. Humans go into the pods, and something... else comes out.

Just a MW5 demo station. Will be designed to look like a cockpit with curved screens fitted in.

I'd much rather they spent the time, effort, and money on something that the entire player base could take advantage of.

They always say they don't have enough time/effort/money to do stuff for MWO. Maybe if they stopped wasting it on things like pods, they would.

I come back every now and then just to check in and it's all the same thing over and over again... Promises from PGI to 'fix' the one game mode that should have defined this game and more people waiting for the 'fixes' to come in that never materialize.

See y'all in 6 months.

End game is really hard for people who don't know how to design a game to begin with.

And if you don't design an end game to begin with you just suck.

And currently enough marks making purchases, allowing the lights to stay on without any brownouts.

PGI should only listen to paying customers?

Hey, tis was your sarcastic post I was replying to :)

No, the aim should be to open said wallets, as long as the vision does not drastically changes. Really though, PGI no longer has a money man, good, bad or borderline, looking over their shoulders. The bad ones are the ones looking for the quick buck, who does not have a longview. That is where IGP with PGI lead us, by giving us limited Gold Mechs while shelving Community Warfare/Faction Play. And with the money man gone, and on long term vision for the game, except to maybe to lead to funding for MW5, PGI was only able or willing to give us a minimal viable product of Community Warfare.

Sadly, considering PGI previous gaming history they have definitely failed to capitalize on it, instead apparently doing just enough to get to the next hurtle, which is now MW5, and doing it on a shaky foundation.

On the forums, you can't really tell whose wallet can be opened, and who would never pay anything. If anything, the free players are more vocal, driving PGI into making the game pay-to-lose. Most of the newer mechs perform BELOW average free mechs, burning patrons who go on to say they would never buy anything again as one mech pack costs as as much as a full featured game.

If you refund with a reason, you ensure your comment is read by someone.

Battletech Pods has been a thing since the DOS days of Mechwarrior.

That they're doing that for Mechcon is awesome and I strongly approve.

Use the googles, man. It's a good thing and I'm not even going.

I am aware, I played on them, decades ago. It depends on exactly where in Grand Rapids they're currently located, but they're about a two hour drive away from me at present.

In any case, it's completely irrelevant. THIS company, RIGHT NOW, is wasting money on a pod that will get played by what, 100 people, maximum? When instead it could be spending that same money on MWO features that would benefit multiple thousands of people? PGI has no grounds to complain about not having enough resources when they waste the resources they do have on idiotic things like this.

You could make that same argument about the entirety of Mechcon. PGI have stated in the past that the ticket pricing doesn't cover the cost of hosting the event.

That said the promotional value would be incalculable and the people who go would IMO also be the people most likely to spend money on both MWO and MW5. If every 1 of the 100 you say will play in a pod then goes on to buy the game then the cost would be covered (or close to it).

Distributing games is a lot cheaper than it used to be, even though the price hasn't really changed much. No printing of boxes and manuals, no distribution costs, no warranties on defective disks/cd's/dvd's etc, just a few cents worth of electricity in the server farm to power a hard drive and feed it into the net. Companies can afford to promote their product more. Indeed PGI seriously do need to promote their product more.

I'd also bet that given the opportunity there would be more than one person willing to buy those pods after the event, therefore they could be cost neutral.

Don't forget that Mechcon is more than just PGI and MWO.
HBS is there as is Catalyst.
Having an event that celebrates Battletech overall is pretty cool and in itself a noteworthy achievement.

They have been making this promise since, oh, I don't know, LAUNCH!! Stringing the player base along, "toss out new trinkets, new maps" maybe they'll forget. Over 5 years later, Token, broken faction play. Terribad Solaris implementation. Just a general train wreck of organized PvP management. We don't want more Vaporhawk BS. We want faction play we can sink our teeth into. There is currently ZERO incentive to remain loyal to a faction. None, nada. Especially if you have to wait, what, at least a couple weeks for your faction to maybe roll back around?

There were player made( ie people that had jobs and managed the leagues in their free time) leagues with WAY better faction PvP, based in the relatively primitive Zone matchmaking system of MW3 and 4. BTU and Starlance spring to mind. and this was in what, the late 90's?

PGI needs to up their game, dramatically.

Would be nice to also implement some kind of "role" warfare fpr lights and meds to actually get paid for capturing bases/objectives uav/air/arty strikes. That way we would see more lights in games.

Not sure why anyone keep talking about this and that feature when the game develpoment clearly go toward lowering the skill ceiling for casual players.
