The 5 ERLL build was a thing when it first dropped before the C-ERLL's heat was increased. After the heat increase it was kind of a pain to use with a measure of success and got relegated to back shelf.
It will help the NovaCat for sure and I like this new take to make individual mechs have a degree of extra flavor, but at the end of the day the NC is still quite frajeelay.

I only wish they kept the burn time reduction as well but just toned it down by a bit.

Still, that's going to be 48 heat (49 with Gauss). Even with 22 dubs, I'm thinking with the current newer heat system that is going to run hot hot hot.

Will have to try it, though other energy based builds work really well dissipation wise. Will probably set up weapon groups to omit one of the HLLs when forced into a prolonged engagement.
Generally I´m thinking corner poking and alpha striking on high value targets.

So I just did some tests on River City to see what it looks like currently. With 0 skills on the NGT-D and a build of 1 Gauss Rifle and 3x HLL with 22 DBL Heatsinks. Alpha Striking will cause the mech to just hit shutdown while moving (it won't shutdown if standing still, 97% heat though). Each HLL causes about 15-16% heat, so with the next patch, this mech will hit about 50%-ish heat with an alpha strike. Not too shabby. Of course it will be limited by high cooldown weapons, but still worth a look with the next patch.

They need to give the shadowcat a generic HSL +1 to ERLL

Why would you ever do 3HLL+Gauss when you can already do 2HLL+3ERML+Gauss?

Free downgrades for everyone!!!!

Can they use a different abbreviation than HSL? My brain immediately goes to Heavy Small Laser.

Call it Heat Penalty Limit, HPL.

I'm Unsure of that one myself.

I mean... maybe the 10% ballistic cooldown that I assume it's keeping is worth something, but I still can't for the life of me figure out this one over something like a 1HLL+5ERML+1Gauss Ebon Jag, or 2xGauss+2xHLL Night Gyr.

Edit - Still, have to give a little props for adding something to make a set-of-8 variant not terrible. Still is not meta, but is no longer absolutely awful now. Had they kept the Burn time bonus, it probably would have at least competed with the best options.

Just because I could, I did. Compared heat efficiency with 25 DHS using 3x ERLLas pre and post patch.

I mean, firing 3x ERLLas at once actually feels damaging to enemies, and now it also doesn't feel horrible from a heat generation department. But the NCT still has low and wide arms. It still could use, chassis wide, some sort of durability quirk to offset the ridiculous exposure the mech requires to do anything.

thats borderline heat neutral firing 3 CERLL, it doesnt need armor quirks. Some useless structure quirks maybe
