From Sarna.net:

Quote

Designed for extended, long-range bombardments, the Schrek PPC Carrier is capable of unleashing a deadly rain of particle fire.

Developed by Aldis in 2813 to overcome the heat issues which hampered the effectiveness of their immensely popular Demolisher tank, the company took an entirely different tack, replacing the Demolisher's mammoth autocannons with a trio of PPCs and enough Heat Sinks to fire them continuously.

While highly effective when firing from cover and the perfect partner to the short-ranged Demolisher, the design is unpopular with crews due to the Schrek's limited mobility and pitifully low seven tons of ArcShield VII Mk 5 plate, making it highly vulnerable to counter-battery fire. The Schrek's reputation also suffered due to the decline of technical knowledge during the Succession Wars era, its use of increasingly rare Fusion Engine to power its weapons array drove up the costs to buy and maintain the vehicle, pricing it outside the range of all but the most elite units until after the War of 3039.

-----

The trio of turret mounted HellStar PPCs allow the Schrek to unleash horrific firepower on a target. Also unlike other vehicles or BattleMechs mounting as many particle projection cannons as the Schrek, such as the fearsome Awesome, the vehicle mounts enough heat sinks to continuously fire all three at once from a fixed position. Because the Schrek mounts no other weapons, and due to inability of PPCs to effectively fire at close range, it is rarely deployed without escorts such as the Demolisher.

Will we get to face off against these things (and/or their Demolisher counterparts/escorts), and/or have to rely on them for long-range direct-fire support during an operation?

Why would houses or mercs be relying on old, expensive tech, though? Longshot and sheer firepower capabilities notwithstanding, you'd think someone would make a better version by now.

sounds to me that there will be tanks and other armored vehicles in this game where we fight in them or not

The Schrek is one of the most powerful tanks out there. It's still useful even if its technology was superceded . Could do with a bit mroe armor, but the firepower is nasty. One of my old time favorites.

As for a better version, there was a similiar but better tank made in TRO 3075, the DI Morgan. It's difficult and expensive to make a better Energy boat tank however as they can't carry double heatsinks. The DI Morgan is 100 tons and uses an XL Fusion engin, it's probably more than twice the cost of a Schrek, though it does carry ER PPCs instead of standard.

Considering the Schrek can earilly take out mechs and makes for a wonderful support unit, it's a good Tank.

In a game where destructable objects (aka buildings) are perfect substitute for armor and at least some ability to manouver would allow a tank to retreat behind the next cover, that's a nasty way to defend stationary targets. Couple of those hidden somewhere and it's "good by, Jennie" for every overly nosy scout mech (Jenner or not).

Never underestimate three PPCs wrapped in 80 tons of armor, paired with a 50+ km/h engine and a low profile. I was freelancing with a no-name merc outfit about two years ago (3020-something)... dropped in on the Fed Suns to snag a couple prototype weapons for the Combine. We had three lances, I was the newbie in the light lance. Came across an unplanned armored convoy, two of these nasties in the formation. One of them single-shotted my lancemate, center mass. Kid didn't even see if coming, just instantly exploded. Luckily for me that blast knocked my Wasp to the ground and I watched the other tank's three PPC shots whiz over my back. Our Assault lance flanked them and took 'em out easy enough, but believe me when I say these Schreks are quite the nasty gram. Here's to a quick end! Cheers.
