Mouse Or Joystick For Aiming?

I started playing the game with the Revenant and ranged engagements without the LRMs were fine (I had med. pulses). My Javelin has 6 MGs (or HMGs as I tend to switch the loadouts) and getting them to focus on a single component with the jittery aiming input is bad. Maybe I shouldn't have taken those mobility nodes.... I don't know.
BTW, I'm not exactly new this "move your upper torso independently" concept as I've played Heavy Gear 2 (if anyone remembers that game) but that game doesn't have this problem (yes, I still have that game installed).

An ambidextrous joystick (or normal joystick for left-handers) is good for turning and throttle as it gives you analog input for both.

i thought most joysticks were second order (rate) with the mouse being zero order (relative position). first order is absolute position, and the only game i know that does that was mechwarrior 2. ive been playing gbl with a non spring centered frictioned first order stick and its not terrible. modern game devs never studied control theory thats for sure.
a left hand stick is a good idea. i use my ch throttle and pedals for turning and throttle with a mouse for the right hand.

Zero-Order directly changes position.
First-Order directly changes velocity.
Second-Order directly changes acceleration.

Like others said, most likely the mouse sensitivity in the options menu is set too high, you really want a low value
I think I use 0.15 or so.
Best to drop in the testing grounds and adjust the value until you are happy about it
Btw, I've known a few players that played with a joystick, they all performed meh ingame.
It's just how it is vs a mouse.
MW5 could be fine with a joystick, as it seems to have slower gameplay and your obviously not facing human enemies, but in MWO no one serious uses a joystick.

That's not true, in the real world there are helmets that aim by eye sight, you look at something and guns aim there, it's most common in aircrafts. But obviously I doubt anyone has one of those at home or even if they do that they can make it work with MWO, so your point still stands for this game. But with the kind of aiming precision and response time you achieve with those this game would be trivialized by it.

ok so it would be a zero order stick then. mw2 just maps the axis to the whole turret range. i dont remember where i got the gimbals for it. they are some kind of milspec part. cast aluminum with metal gearing. it had a magnetic verier toggle circuit which looked like it was out of the 60s. used a couple of fat electromagnets to lock the axis positions on ne set of pots and the difference between the two could be used as a sperate signal. but i stripped out all the hardware for that and just hard bolted everything to the shaft. the gimbals are a thing of beauty.

What mouse are you using?
What are your system's mouse settings, are they set about medium? If set high with a high DPS setting mouse it could compound the issue to where the in-game sensitivity has no measurable effect.
Some players have their system mouse settings and DPS set up so high that they play with Arm Lock enabled all the time. Unlocking it the player has no real control over aiming.
Do you play with Armlock unchecked and unlocked? Change Arm Lock (temporarily enabled or disabled when key is kept pressed) keymap to Toggle Arm Lock.(switches from one to the other with a keypress and release).
Also, F9. What does your FPS run? What are your system configuration?

I do play with Armlock checked but I've changed the key mapping so that I can toggle the Armlock ON and OFF while playing a match. I can also change the mouse speed by using the DPI button. But the problem is that when twisting, the settings are ideal to some extent but aiming feels jittery. On the other hand, if I lower the sensitivity, I can twist turn 20 degrees quickly although shooting a Locust, let's say, is much easier.
But yeah, I guess the game is designed this way and I have to get used to it. Or adjust the DPI button to reduce or increase the sensitivity within the bracket that I'm comfortable with and change the settings on the fly.

If that's the case then you're moving your mouse faster than your twist speed can follow. Don't over-move your mouse.

Its the jittery word he is using, exactly what does he mean by jittery? Jittery would mean to me the mouse is jumping around. And tis why I asked for system specs, FPS and game settings w/what AA is being used. MWO is not Heavy Gear2. It may play well in the Testing Grounds but go live with the additional overhead, a large FPS fluctuation may make it appear to be jittery. If the OP could record a few games... but system specs, etc first.
He is using some sort of a 6 button gaming mouse with adjustable DPI...
