Hi guys. I haven't played for quite some time. The Skill Web/Tree nonsense killed it for me. So.. have they scrapped it and brought in an actual Skill Tree? I can't bring myself to log into the game for fear of my disappointment and just in writing this, I feel sheer dread. It's a bit like i'm gonna be dumped by my beautiful girlfriend who's great in bed, kicked out of my home and have to find a new job whilst struggling to service a mountain of debt. That's how freakes out i am.. so please.. just tell me they made it better? Please...?
Also to the members of MRR.. I miss you.. so much. But, I just can't whilst the awful skill web exists.
Big hugs everyone.. x

You can save loadouts now so you can get someone to export some skill webs to you.

Well, I appreciate the reply.. now i just feel like when my favourite cat, Scully got run over. I know, cats don't last long anyway and she'd be dead by now regardless, but still.. such a shame. I miss her. #sadface

Just experiment with it

you can skill up a mech fully and test it in testing grounds without having to spend any cbills

If you like MWO's core gameplay then i'd give the skill-tree a chance. It's not perfect but once you got some experience you skill up a mech within a few minutes. Or even only seconds if you don't min-max each mech and just use some saved general presets like "Laser-vomit" or "SRM-bomber". Posted Image

Thats a pretty heavy overreaction OP. The modern skill tree means you no longer need every variant of a mech to maximize its effectiveness. Just finished my fifth fully skilled mech and I don't think its even that difficult of a process, nor is any player defenseless in a mech with no skill nodes

The skill tree is one of MWO's biggest issues. It's what drives new players away, and even for veteran players, it's a frustrating mechanic because every time you buy a new mech, it's just garbage.

Most of the people who think it's a good mechanic are spending money on premium time or GXP conversion so they can bypass the disadvantage period of new mechs.

For new players that good with numbers, it can be a problem...
For veterans every time you buy new mech it takes like 2-3 minutes to click those nodes that you want (you know what you want because you are veteran) or simply export/import from other mech you already own that has similar playstyle/weaponry.

this disadvantage period was already there with skilltree 1.0, for some reason people didn't whine about that in the past

PS. Yes I know skilltree isn't perfect, but if you like shooting/piloting part of the game that isn't that huge issue.

If the system was easy then people wouldnt buy anything and they would have to shut down.

I mean the time it takes to get the skill points, not the time it takes to physically click on the skills.

The difference between an unskilled mech and a fully-skilled mech was smaller than with the new skill tree, and it didn't require CBills to skill up, so it was both less of a grind and less of an advantage. And some people did still bring up that it was frustrating for new players to have to play with inferior mechs.

With the newer skill system though, the difference is even bigger, and the grind is tedious. It doesn't help that a new mech will generally result in lower end-of-match rewards because you have lower defensive and offensive power than most players, which makes it harder to get high scores.

Umm, are you sure you played prior to the current skill tree? I'm only asking because getting your mech elited in the old system was a 2x multiplier to all basics, which was a huge deal, and made a big difference compared to an unskilled mech. Not to mention unlocking another module slot when fully mastered, which meant you could run Radar Dep, Seismic, and two weapons modules.

As to OP, if you're getting that triggered from the idea of seeing the skill tree in this game, how do you cope with real life?

To OP, you act like a hysterical little girl. If you are getting wreked in un unskilled mech in QP, then your skills are the problem, not the mech. They help, yes, but the effect is not huge, and skill points are gained fast.

Quit yer bitching and start playing, or don’t. With your current attitude it makes no difference really.

It's stupidly easy, and definitely not worth staying away from the game for fear of.

Believe me, it only looks intimidating, but by your third or fourth time skilling out a 'mech, you'll have a good idea of what to do, and it'll be second nature.

In the long run, I consider it a dramatic improvement over the old skill system.

There are some guides stowed away in the forums here, and Baradul (Molten Metal) includes a skill tree during the "build" section in the first three minutes of every one of his Daily Doses on youtube. I'd recommend watching a couple of those to get an idea for his standard builds and then go with that.

The OP reads to me as someone who is in the early stages of writers block and is just trying out some random examples of simile and hyperbole on a captive audience to see if it triggers something to get the creative juices flowing. Apropos I liked the later cat post, but the initial girl friend...mountain of debt thing just didn’t work for me.

As to the substantive issue of the skill tree sucking, etc. Oh well. Just deal with it for a couple of months and after a while you will stop caring about it, and now that we can save and load between mechs, the hassle of populating it is even less of an issue than it was in the 91 clicks days.

Lol, good feedback.

For me - too much purple prose. I read just enough to get "I kinda want to get back in, but X is making me skittish" and skipped the rest.
