So, the free hero Warhammer IIC is gonna be absolute trash. It provides nothing interesting but jjs, and anemic hardpoints. Why couldn't it be a mirror 6R, or have ballistics and missiles? It won't have quirks, it'll likely have poor agility. Why does that thing exist?
It basically won't exist.
I was incredibly excited for the free Whammy IIC hero, yet I have never been so disappointed in something free before.

Agree with Bombast on this one. Its a free mech say thank you and move on. It will probably do 3 or even 4 ppc well.
Im probably getting jocks and socks again for xmas, I always say thank you. Its the thought that counts.

Ah, you know, enough people get pissed about it. They might change it. But I think most people don't care. It's free and it's a hero. Most are just collectively shrugging their shoulders at this thing.

some people would complain if you gave them a million because they would have to claim the taxes on it.

If they're not gonna buff assault jets the least they could do is give it a JJ quirk. That I think is pretty reasonable, it's not like an armor or energy heat quirk that would have the potential to make it too stronk. JJ quirks are really, really difficult to make OP.

And/or alternatively give it better base agility stats than the other variants, another fair trade for lower firepower potential.

Look at it this way, MWO will probably be dead by this time next year so you won't have to worry about getting more free stuff you don't want.

I look at the two of them, and still see some passable options

That corsair could rock a pair of HPPCs, and AC10s, and drop 50 point PPFLD alphas on people from medium/long range. Not unique, but depending on how agile the thing is, it could be decent there.

As for the warhammer, So far i've found that pretty much any clan mech with any combination of energy/missile hardpoints can run ATMs plus vomit reasonably successfully. In this case, it's looking like twin HLL, some ER Meds, and an ATM12. Overall, very light on the missile side, but even a singular ATM12 should still be enough to rough up a fast mover or two. One can also always make it a 4xWubHammer, or PPCHammer too I guess, depending on the agility profile.

Keep in mind, neither of these are ideal, but sometimes you just need to try to make lemonade out of lemons

Corsair should be fine. it can do stuff. maybe not optimal, but usable. the Whammy looks just... HNNNNNNNNNNGH

The Vanguard is "good" because it's a blank slate Omnimech and you can swap out the pods.

I wont complain about free mechs, but i do agree with the general consensus of the whammy being lackluster compared to even some of the more niche and weak mechs out there as of this point. Assaults really need to have ballistic hardpoints to take advantage of the fact that they can actually carry heavy weapons onto the battlefield as lasers are heat capped nomatter how many heatsinks you put on teh mech, so to get damage output on a assault its either gauss+lasers (due to gauss being heat free), ballistics, or something stupid like loads of ATM/LRM if you must bring missiles. Quad LPL/PPC is just way too niche and limited in functionality to consider those legit loadouts (outside of very selective FP useage), and anything else can be done better on another mech. Maybe if the JJs got buffed to the point they actually helped heavys/assaults without requiring 5-6 tons then id take it, but since thats unlikely, itll be a mech like my timby is now, played once in a blue moon when i get bored to death of good mechs.

I don't really care, because free things are free and I don't drive assaults anyway, but I doubt anyone who misses out on the giveaway is going to buy the WHM-IIC when it comes out for MC.
