How strong do you guys think the Gunslinger would be in MWO?

Pretty much as strong as an IS 85t Mech can be... as such it will depend on quirks but the design philosophy of the model is sound. It has many high mounted, tightly clustered energy hardpoints and ballistic hardpoints in the arm to safely use gauss, which allows a number of good builds.
The engine cap might be a small problem, since 315 is neither an efficient weight nor does it grand an impressive top speed. With the very effecient 300 engine you are barely faster than a Dire Wolf. On the other hand, you are faster, probably a lot more mobile and you pack a punch.
Its ECM may not be a game changer, but it helps, especially in QP (which is what people play anyway). The JJ are only 1t and useful to traverse difficult terrain; definitely a plus.

But again, the performance of IS assaults is largely determined by their quirks to compensate for the worse engines they have to use. If PGI is generous, the Gunslinger will be a very strong Mech. If PGI decides to give it mediocre quirks for having ECM and JJ, it could end up being irrelevant.

It would not surprise me for PGI to give it the Fafnir treatment and pre-nerf the engine cap down to 275/280 Posted Image

As with most robots, the hitboxes will be a main defining factor in its success or lack of. If it gets too much of a potbelly then that would make it just a really big bullet/missile/laser magnet.

You are right, geometry is a huge factor. And I think the Gunslinger could have a pretty good one, because of the potbelly. A big spherical center takes up a lot of mass (volumetric scaling), gives the Mech depth and thus reduces the overall frontal profile. It also makes rolling damage easier. I actually prefer potbellied Mechs to the flat, broad-shouldered Mechs like the Victor.

Of course, PGI can always ruin the geometry of a Mech but I see some potential.

Since the Gunslinger was made to represent the cooperation between the Lyrans, Dracs, and FedSuns, It should only fair that the pre-order rewards should be Pattern unlocks based on those 3 factions alone.

Yeah that would be good. Referencing the lore of the mech is always a great way to give it character.

Of course. Let's say it has good to excellent hitboxes, how does it fare for weapons hps, etc?

WOW
Okay that's just wow

I absolutely love the design. And the fact that the arms are so high would help the mech a lot at long range fire support.
Also like that "PGI-ish" feel to the art. Looks just like how they would remake the mech. Posted Image

Well the Brigand (light), Lightray (medium), or Dragon Fire (heavy) might be more to your liking then...

This is the Brigand e.g., a 25t Mech with JJ:

From the Artwork, I did say the first one would fite quite well with MWO. Also the original more round shape also has something...espacily I like the "helmet" structure around the cockpit. If the first art could work that out a bit more it would be better.

Oh, the Sixth Donegal certainly took some damage...

In the light of the Marauder II, I am just a bit worried about the potential quirks. One can never rely on quirks. The chassis must be sound. And the Gunslinger has a lot going for it, as explained before, but PGI tends to give lesser quirks to Mechs with ECM and JJ.
But then, it is an IS assault. They all depend on quirks, each and everyone of them. The good ones are those with good quirks.
