I think I was about 10 or 11 when I played MechWarrior 3 and although I thought it was awesome, I didn't finish it. But years later I replayed it, completed it, and after that I started playing every other BattleTech game and reading every sourcebook I could find. I have yet to play the tabletop games, however, because (unfortunately) I don't know anyone else who likes BattleTech.

For me I was at my new friends house (Stuart) during 7th grade, he had just moved to the area as their parents had gotten divorced and were unpacking. I offered to come over and help unpack and low and behold one of the books that came out was the Tech Readout 3055 and the 2nd Edition Core Book. I of course was like "HOLY F***!! THAT LOOKS BAD***!!!" and the rest is history since then i've owned every battletech, battlespace, mechwarrior, and mechcommander book, map, pc game, concol game etc that has come out (still annoyed at the Xbox version, really taking on an assault mech at range in an elemental suit???) and I've been hooked ever since. It was my first game (even prior to DnD) on the table and on the PC, and I am really hoping that they bring in some of the MASSIVE scale that the MW universe is set in (i.e. Hundreds of planets, systems, etc).

My first exposure was the Wizkids game. I never had enough money to get them and pretty much forgot about them for a long time. During that time I played the two Super Nintendo games a decent amount. A few months ago I saw a post about Mechwarrior Online on the Penny Arcade forums and my interest was rekindled. I think I might pick up a bunch of the old Wizkids minis now that I'm an adult with disposable income. :P

What is a good place to start in the novels for someone who has never read them?

Very early 1990s playing Kesmai’s Multiplayer BattleTech: EGA on GEnie.net via a modem. Game had commands and a galaxy map, mechs and simulated combat against a computer opponent in order to take over more of the map. I remember playing 9-20hours a month, the service only gave you 9h online time per month for like 20 bucks then 3 bucks each extra hour. I got into the game towards the end of it as there were only a handful of active players.

After that I played several mechwarrior stand alone games.

House Marik since the 90s!

Had to pull the old box out of the bookcase ... let's see here ... 1985, second edition. I had been playing wargames since the mid 1970s. A gamer shop where I played had a game running and I of course was instantly a fan. Then these computer things became smaller and almost affordable. I've been around as long as the game itself.

I just remember picking up MechWarrior 3 at Marshall's and the box art was so captivating. When I learned about the boardgame aspect of the game I have had an inkling to get into it for a long time. Sadly it's not a big thing where I live and the companies that hold license always keep dying.

I remember the first day of my love for MW/BT,
I should say i all ways loved robots(yes i know there not really robots) even before i knew MW.

One day when i was 3(yes i was 3) years old i walked in to the computer room to play some stupid learning game about math or something i saw my dad playing MW3, ididnt even know what it was but i watched him pilot a Daishi then as he was playing he got shot down and i remember yelling "get back up and shoot!" but then he said he died..........then the best thing happend.............he asked me if i wanted to try....................i then played every day when my mom told me to go play my stupid learning game i would play MW3 and i proceded to beat the entire campaign and all the instant action modes by the time i was 5, then MW4 came out....
I dont know alot about the lore cuz i was so young.

MW has been my oldest series that i will love forever and im so happy that there finally making a new game : )
Heck even my xbox live name is Mechwarrior OO7 {OO7 being another favorite series}

I was in Guam, being in the Navy at the time, and the USAF B-52 bomber base just north of my base had a wargaming group on Saturdays. We would use the ready rooms for different games. This was 1990, I built up my own Merc battalion and still have 90% of them mostly Unseens. I also got into MWDA for a while, my wife told me to take our 12 year old son on into a wargame store and find a game (true story). I am back with my Merc company, and searching for a second battalion to play OpFor against each other.

I have played most, if not all of the MW PC games. I remember playing on my 286 machine the original game. I loved sitting in my Battlemaster using the PPC to headcap mechs from long range, or to take a leg off with my 6 medium lasers.

It's been lurking around in the back of my mind and imagination ever since I was in elementary school and our family got a new HP computer that came with a copy of MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. Having never been exposed to anything so violent before, I was scared urine-less at all the death and destruction in the game. And yet I continued to enjoy giant robots and mecha since then, with my desires resurfacing in MechWarrior 4: Vengeance as well as the rest of that series, with a small foray into MechWarrior Dark Age (which of course didn't turn out so well).

Then late in 2007 I went to my Friendly Local Game Store to meet the people who held a monthly BattleTech game there, and, well, that's where the romance truly began. ;)

My first exposure wasactually through the first edition of AeroTech (I was still in my "I wanna be a pilot!" phase when I discovered the franchise.) I played a bit in high school, but It wasn't until I mentioned to a friend in passing that I\'d played BT--and she told me she was GM'ing an online campaign, which she invited me to join--that I got serious.

And if that hadn't happed, I probably wouldn't be here today. ^^;;

Once apon a time in the land of California. A young boy was searching the store of Hollywood video. The young boy saw a boxs with a strange and wonderful cover. But sadly the boy had to wate. For he did not own a xbox.

Time whent on and one day he was able to play that game. And when mechassault 2 lone wolf came out he also bout and played it. But he longed to play more of this amazing game. So he searched and finally he fond it, a copy of mechwarrior 4 needs. Then he found friends that played the table top game. He love the bored game more. And ever sense he has been a battletech fan ever sense.

Battledroids TT! (I think I still have most of the cardboard mechs)
"We have come for your water and you will like it...or not!"

I was hooked.
Never played Crescent Hawk, but from Mechwarrior 2 on....oh yeah!

Back in the 80s a friend of mine had a wargames shop (actually, he still does). I found the original boxed game and bought it, then the expansions et cetera, and also painted up quite a few miniatures. Later I discovered the PC games.

When I was a youngster, I was in a bookstore with my parents and my eyes fell upon the 3025 TR. It had the Old-school Marauder on the cover, and very interesting "fluff" such as notable pilots, when and where first built, combat history. This captured my imagination like nothing else could. Yes, many of the mechs were familiar due to Robotech (yep, the TR had the Unseen in it :D), but the bits of history gleaned from the TR was completely alien to me, and the pull of the mysterious soon had me begging my parents to take me back to the bookstore so that I could find more info on this Battletech universe (ah the pre-internet days). Though my curiosity went unsated (at that time), it ignited in me a passion for all things Battletech. A few years later, I got that book as a present, as well as a boxed set (came with the Unseen, btw, still have some of those minis), and played my first game using the TT rules. Shortly thereafter I played Crescent Hawks Inception on the family's brand new C-64 for the first time and began reading the fiction. From that point onward I said to Hades with Robotech, firmly attached my banner to the Battletech Universe and never looked back. Best gaming/entertainment decision I ever made ;) .

I was fourteen at the time and a friend showed me an RTS game (I was big into RTS' at the time) where you controlled giant walking robots of death. I was like, alright, looks awesome enough lol. I played through the single player for MechCommander and Desperate Measures, then discovered the online component and have been hooked on online gaming ever since.

I played MCG online a lot, first on Mplayer and then on Zone (and a little on Gamespy before they bought out Mplayer and shut it down) but didn't care as much for MC2. I played MW3 a little but didn't really have a computer that ran it at the time.

MWO will essentially be my first MechWarrior game, and based on the role warfare and whatnot I'm pretty pumped for it. I hope it can deliver in both the tactical and skill based elements that have been talked about thus far. Definitely excited for summer and as more information becomes available.

Brighton, 1984/5, saw the Battledroid box, and liked the cover. Read the rules on the train home, had tea at my mates then we played a game. I over-heated, shut down then took a crit to the engine (1/2 movement) then took a crit to my ammo and blew up. i remember this because he'd missed with everything so, being in range, used the machine guns. Always remember that because I laughed and spat the coffee I was drinking over the manual, which i still have and it still has that brown stain.

Followed the game up until the Clans where introduced and, at the time, couldn't afford to catch up. Got back into it later though but still prefer the Pre-clan stuff. Good days.

I was introduced to it from MW3, loved that game so much. Then I played MC1 and MC2, played some MW4 mercenaries, saw the BT show. Played MA2 on the xbox, and recently found MW2 at a store a few days ago. I was completely hooked since MW3, love it

I was 13 when my older brother and I invested in MW4: Mercs. Then both of us dove into the novels. Then MechCommander 2, then the first one. Then the TROs. And more novels. Also watched the BT animated series. I would cite Mechassault 2, but it's so far off from the lore and canon that I'm hesitant to even include it as part of the universe. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Oh, we do have a Rifleman (the mech) toy...though at the time we didn't know what it was.
