Thoughts?

https://mw5mercs.com/

After all this time, I have to admit. I'm tempted. You?

Obviously I haven´t gotten the memo where it says that it was 1st of April already again, so ….
Nope, this doesn´t even come close to tempt me, ESPECIALLY after MW:O .

*looks at founder badge*
hmmmm....
*thinks about MWO in 2012*
mmmmmm
*thinks about MWO in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018*
... man, PGI thinks I'll fall for that? Talk about fooling me.. 5, 6 times?

So basically. I can't think of a good reason NOT to preorder. You're basically losing money if you don't get this.

why do mechs look so floaty and weightless in the most recent gameplay trailer. The UI and graphics for things like missiles also look a lot more Arcady the earlier footage from 2017 looked so nice so why the drastic change?

Title is wrong, MW5 Pre-Order is here.

Why start another identical thread?

Moderators are gone? They should have merged it already.

MC at this point of the game's life is meaningless. I have everything. MC is only a means to an end. They dragged their asses so long in MWO that I completed the end goal of pokemech. I reached the end of content, something you never want in a F2P game.

What makes MC so valuable when they give many thousands of it away annually now?

I guess this is for the lazy or the lapsed.

I kind of agree about the MC thing. At first, especially since I am a founder, the MC sounds really nice. I mean I would get 24,000 MC even with the base package but then I start thinking about what I would spend the MC on and I can't really figure out what I would want to buy that I don't already have. I've got a good selection of colors and most of my mechs have a camo pattern applied. I have all the Hero mechs I want that are currently available in the store and have something like 40-60 Cbill bonus mechs so don't need any champion mechs either. Also there are only a few decals I might want to buy and I think the Solaris Bolt Ons look stupid.

On the other side of the coin, even if I don't place any value on the MC, the packages are a pretty good price. I mean I fully expect the retail price of MW5 to be $49.95 so everything else is just a freebie so why wouldn't you go ahead and pre-order, at least if you currently play MWO and already know your going to want to play MW5. It is a no-brainer decision hands down.

I've been playing MWO for free for nearly 3 years, and I can find a lot of good uses for $50. More than anything, though, MW5 just looks dull to me. It's not a simple aggregation of "trash mob"-style enemies, generic plotting and predictable AI. Can't put my finger on it, no sarcasm. I played and enjoyed the original MechWarrior, and had enough fun with HBS BT. This, though, makes me wonder if I'd do a $7.99 Steam sale out of concern that I might not actually play it.

This thread was started for discussion, of course. Moderators can change the title if it bothers them.

What are your thoughts on the offer? Are you tempted?

As one of the original Beta testers (on a different account) I couldn't resist, so I pre-ordered it, Well.. The Collectors, couldn't justify Ultimate as I missed the Founders window by 6 hrs :( , However I have stuck by MWO and still enjoy playing it. My unit has agreed we'll still be playing this along with MWO so a worthy investment.. plus.. free MWO stuff, so I can't complain. :)

And for those wondering, not that you are, why a different account? I foolishly sold off all the "Gift" mechs (A Centurion and a Griffin champion) they had given out on my original account and my indecisiveness had me constantly selling them off after trying them until I could no longer afford to buy another mech and didn't want to grind in trial mechs so I started over. Fortunately I didn't spend any real money on my original account so no real loss.

The demo made the mech walking feel really plodding, and the gameplay footage is from the demo, I don't think they changed anything.

so in other words, too damn late for our feedback to be of any use. no sale.

How do you figure? A month should be enough to iron out any major hardware issues with the game....

As said above this is for more open discussion about it. The official thread for any such thing tends to be somewhat rigorously "kept" on topic until no longer relevant which could be "oooo gotta buy now!" "The excites!" And maybe questions to the devs. Here we can go a little more broad like what kind of flaws it might have how to fix it how do we feel about the preorder etc.

One thing I will say is the preorder is what it says. The closed beta aspect... Would like it to be earlier so as to give more time to address things. But beyond that it won't be like "spend 200 and get this canvas bag...made out of the nylon instead of canvas." I don't expect the game to be perfect. Looking back on history every mechwarrior game has had issues. Am actually glad they are doing it this way as opposed to something stupid like "jump jet fuel" the fizzy energy drinks of Mech jocks everywhere. People are either gonna bite or wait. I know when I started I was just a bottom tier founder. Played one match and had a ramming contest with another Jenner. Saw flaws immediately but it was still the best mechwarrior yet. But pgi changed and the game did. I can't fix mwo. But with mod support anything pgi ***** up I can fix. I just see it as they did the bulk of the work of making my own game for me.

Don't think its the hardware that's of concern. PGI's balancing record. Animating record. Etc.
It isn't enough time for feedback.

Pgi gives us nearly 3 times earth gravity on all maps because "it feels weird" to let inertia take effect on a jump after you stop thrusting and the transituon from going up to coming down made pop tarts an easy target. We can't slow down in water because they can't get lag compensation to account for it when you suddenly enter or exit water. Things like that whether technical or aesthetic (such as a.c. being a rifle instead of an a.c. is the sort of feedback and changes people hope for with a closed beta.

For example actuator damage did something in may 2012. It was removed because there were no indicators and players thought the drift was a bug rather than leg actuator . Being at 80% heat started damage of equipment. With feedback that was removed from mwo. That's what people want with a closed beta to give feedback on that stuff.

Myself i dont care as I plan on making my own changes and I hated the "remove anything simulator esque from mwo" feedback that happened. Did you know sensor pings once had a 1 second delay rather than realtime minimal displays? This made hit and run warfare much easier. But out the window it went.

Pre- order done, I have gotten my moneys worth from MWO, and look forward to playing MW5- A little early money won't make the game worse.

I feel the same way. While my experience with PGI and MWO has ranged from great fun to full rage quit mode at some of their decisions where I have taken breaks for sometimes months at a time, I can still say that I have enjoyed the game and aside from a few lemon mechs I wish I hadn't purchased on pre-order, don't feel my money invested has gone to waste. That being the case, I will absolutely pre-order MW5.

My only issue is I can't find any information on how upgrading works. I mean can I purchase the standard community edition now and upgrade to say the collectors or ultimate edition down the road. Also if I buy the standard edition, can I upgrade the Marauder II pack independently to add the Hero like your able to do with a standard meck pack pre-order. I have searched high and low and even created a thread trying to find out this info with no luck.

There is currently no way to upgrade the community packages.

Per the FAQ: https://mw5mercs.com/faq#question-9-2

Ahh it was kinda hidden. Thanks for pointing that out to me. That is too bad because I think they are leaving quite alot of money on the table there as I am someone who tends be conservative but as time goes on talk myself into upgrading as time goes on. Case in point Star Citizen's Anniversary Sale this year. I started off buying a $70 Anvil Arrow but ended up convincing myself it was a good idea to upgrade that to a $350 Banu Merchantman by the last day of the sale hehe. I could see myself doing the same here if there was an upgrade option.

That only leave the question on if I can upgrade the mech pack independently. I have only bought the reinforcement package maybe 3 times but almost always buy the hero and none of the Community Package options offer a Standard Pack + Hero only purchase option.

Only speculation on my part but I would guess no. Given how they are providing it (e.g. a promo code) I assume that it would require them doing manual upgrades to the pack. I don't think the store can handle upgrading a package from a promo code, but I could be wrong. I've never personally tried it.

Actually, I bet you could manually upgrade the mech pack on your own. For instance, I was gifted a Corsair Standard pack through a stream giveaway (so it's a redeemable code). After I've redeemed the code on my account, I now have the option of paying the additional for the collectors, hero, or full ultimate. I'm guessing it's the exact same way after you redeem a code for the Marauder II.

No, not until it offers PvP.

Why the 3D in you nickname? There is no MAD-3D. I ask because I'm a fan of playing games in 3D like MWO and I only go watch movies in 3D now.

Am I the only one concerned MW5 will effectively kill MWO? Am I missing something? Do we really want a developer with a checkered history of fixing things to divide their efforts further?

In the short term we can definitely expect a player base dip when MW5 releases, but after people finish their singleplayer game they'll come right back.
