So, is it known if there will be any support for Australian servers? Or even decent international servers? I've heard on the grapevine (obviously not from myself) that at the moment, you may as well not even be in the beta if you're in Australia because you'll lag so much, and that's stopping me from wanting to buy a founder's pack.

If I knew there was going to be support for us down under, I'd gladly buy one. But at the moment, I don't want to waste my money just in case MWO won't even be playable or where I'll be at a constant disadvantage just because of where I live.

Well, the talks about other servers (especially european) are still under way. But since PGI has promsied one-time migration possibilities, I guess that everything looks good for Non-NA based servers.

Garth especially said in the "Official Update by the Devs" Thread in the Announcement forum that he would support Australian servers with everything he could. You can look it up there, if you want.

There is "support" in the sense that the development team is aware of the amount of people who want a local server here... and that they might, at some point in the future, create one. However, at this time you will need to decide based on not having a local server.

There are many of us in the same boat who have bought the founders pack, as well as those in other countries doing the same.

I've played MWO (oops.. freudian slip there.. I don't have a Beta key yet.. sadly) WoT with 250ms average latency without any problem whatsoever.. even when it occasionally spikes between 400 and 500ms I can still play, though it is annoying..

This is not CoD or Modern Warfare.. it's not an FPS where "twitch" gameplay and 0ms pings are required.

That's fine. Then you can just wait for Open Beta.. no pressure to buy it if you don't want to. I have the same doubts.. but I have faith.

Thanks for the information guys.

I'm aware it's not "twitch" gameplay and you can play with pretty high pings, I'm only asking for under 350ms or so, so there's no "lag-jumping" of mechs, which is apparently an issue in the current beta.

It's just too many times that I've heard developers promise this or that kind of support for Australian players, and it's never happened, so it's hard to have enough faith to spend 60 of my hard earned dollars on anything yet.

Are any Australians currently in beta that are willing to give us a heads-up as to how things are playing atm?
(I'm pretty sure it's not breaking the NDA if you just say 'excellent', 'needs improvement' or 'is currently unplayable').

Well I'm not in the beta, but from what I've heard from other Australians in the beta, it is in between unplayable and needs improvement, as there's a lot of lag-jumping.

That's pretty much exactly what breaking the NDA is.

"GamePlusDeluxe special report: Sources close to MWO beta state that game is 'currently unplayable'. Does MWO have a future?"

They can't do that. Revealing that they're in the beta IS breaking the NDA.

OP: Beta invites are completely random as long as you're a founder, it doesn't matter where you are playing from or what computer specs you have.

ALSO: The devs have said they will support Aussies in the fight to get regional servers. No more details about it.

About the beta quality, lag spikes etc... etc...

Don't listen to the rumour mill, really it doesn't help and is probably not accurate at all.

Well, when you're an Australian gamer, lag issues are a pretty major issue when it comes to gaming. Even if there weren't beta players saying anything, I would just ASSUME that there would be extreme lag issues and no Australian support, going by the track record of game developers as a whole, and that PGI don't even have the capabilities that much bigger developers have who still failed.

Why are there so many Aussies in House Liao?

Aussie based servers would certainly be great news, and it would show certain other publishers that Always onilne games need local servers to give good performance for people south of the equator *cough*Blizzard*cough*

Because House Liao rocks?

Seriously though, probably because Australia is full of non-Japanese Asian people and Eastern Europeans, and House Liao is the only non-Japanese or Western dominated house. Good ol' cold war dominating even gaming literature huh?

Ultimately decisions like come down to whether or not they have enough players there to lament funding a server there. The best thing you could do in that regard is buy a Legendary and put your location in your profiles. But even if you don't get one you should have a US West server to play on.(Which will likely be hosted in California like everything else is on that half of the country)

At worst, yeah West Coast US servers generally do fine, but it varies on the quality of servers and the netcode of the game. Sooo let's hope that even if they don't run Australian servers, West Coast US servers will at least get us pings under 350ms.

yea i have been in the beta from the start, i live in sydney australia my ping has sat between 290-330 the game dosent jump around but at the end of a game where i think i have put alot of damage out i have only done like 65 in total so my guess is that even thoe i see my weps hit they aren't doing anything.i run the game on ultra and it looks awesome but i havent bought a founders pack as im in the same boat i dont want to get stuck with bad ping.

Yeah I get the same feeling Kaosspear, and the disappointing results once I look at the damage done. Guess I'm missing my shots even though it looks like I'm hitting.

I can attest to this. I can and do understand if the inclusion of an Aussie or APAC server is delayed until we see results in the game, but it definately makes balisitic weapons an SOB to correctly gauge.

ACs are usually well behind or slightly ahead of target and it's tricky to land an exact shot unless your oppenent is charging you like a turkey.
