So our merc company will never be big/good enough to affect the outcome of a planetary invasion. :(

Russ said something about allowing direct client to client modding for pvp. Don't know if server hosted PVP would be something they'd try to shutdown. Maybe, doubt they want that competition. But as along as everyone playing has to pay an actual copy of the game. It might make them more money in the long run.

I think it's within the realm of possibility. I wouldn't rule it out. Anything that attracts more people to the game will make them money. Just look what Dayz did for Arma II. I hadn't even heard of Arma before I saw some crazy DayZ videos on youtube. So who knows. They might see it worth ignoring if it's bringing in more sales.

I wouldn't say that..

The earlier teasers show your company targeting individual VIP personnel.. Killing an important NPC, like a prince, duke, or weapons specialist can greatly affect a planetary invasion (or cause one for that matter).

Also, a single lance of mechs could be quite effective in disrupting supply lines, interfering with production and supply, and such.

Keep in mind that never before in ANY FPS MW game did you have more than a single lance at your command.. And I remember one of those games annihilate Smoke Jaguar clan?

They state in the AMA that you're not going to be directly affecting the IS maps by flipping control of systems. The map will change according to the timeline, and you can take contracts for factions involved in system conquest, but you're not going to be affecting the outcome one way or another.

I like that choosing to start in different faction's territory will affect what mechs you get and the missions you do.

I know PGI is limiting the scope of the main campaign to your character's personal story, but if they get the framework for the campaign right, they could easily build on it by adding bespoke DLC mini-campaigns corresponding to events in the timeline, similar to how XCOM and BATTLETECH did with their DLCs

Yep and if our merc company's presence on the battle field will in no way effect the outcome of the battle, then why would anyone bother to hire us?

In MW4 you could field 2 lances on most of the later missions. Is the engine MW5 is being built on capable of multiple lances?

It's not that we can't affect the outcome of a battle. It's that we're not going to affect the outcome of a major planetary invasion because they're not going to trust crucial battles to mercenaries. They have their own troops for that. Mercenaries are for jobs they don't have the resources or willpower to attend to with regular troops. Or jobs that they don't want to be easily associated with.

And we're limited to 1 lance because that's how many mechs a Leopard can deploy, and PGI probably doesn't have the resources to model a Union dropship interior.

You could say the same about MW4 Mercs. No matter which side you choose, Katrina loses and runs away to Vladdy-boy, Peter Steiner-Davion comes out of retirement, and the only real choice you have is where you go (Clans somehow, find your own home in the Chaos March, or ally with the resurgent Fedcom).

Then the Jihad OMGWTFBBQLOLZ on everyone and everything that anyone liked.
