...perhaps that implies PGI has the Dragon Fire on its radar and intends to release it at a later date, and to make it more unique they chose the MAD-9M.
I am realistic enough to understand it is more likely PGI picked the -9M because it offers a new hardpoint combination for the Marauder, but one can hope...

TBQH, the 5D will probably be stronger overall.

Possible, especially as we have LFEs. The 9M's hardpoint distribution is more interesting for XL-builds, but those have gone out of fashion.
The usefulness of ECM is always subject to debate and shifts in the meta. On such a Mech, however, I generally prefer it to JJ.

I thought you'd like that.
Sure, there are only few things I like more than chasing Victor (killing Snakes or Falcons for example).... but there is blood between the Alarion Jaegers and me they savaged my command, we hardly made the sally at New Glasgow.

I imagine the opportunity to fight them again would be pretty cathartic.

So let's keep the conversation going.
What do you guys think the Dragonfire's strengths would be and what would be it's weaknesses? How would you quirk it with these things in mind?

I hope so. Nobody was asking for the Corsair e.g. ... PGI knew their in-house Mechs sell worse, yet they decided to waste a release slot. What were they thinking?
However, some of the Mechs I initially had little interest in turned out to be great. Vulcan and Champion are both a joy and I pilot them regularly even though I never advocated any of them.
The crucial factor is having fun with them in game, when actually piloting them. The Dragon Fire can do some builds I am currently either missing entirely or which are poorly done by others (Thanatos). So yeah, this Mech could be great fun. Depending on PGI not ruining the geometry (looking at you, NSR), Marauder-like quirks would be enough.

I would buy it, but only because I vastly prefer driving chicken walkers.
