Secondly, you should buy the pre-order if you think all of the MWO goodies are worth it. If you are not into MWO and have no use for all the MWO fluff...sorry, I should have said “content”...then you should wait.
As to that MWO content, do keep something in mind: At MechCon Russ refused to discuss the future of MWO, the future depends on renewing the license with Microsoft, and that has not occurred yet (due in 2020). In other words, there is a real possibility that there will be no renewal. Then in a follow up recently, he said, the future of MWO will be “up to the community”. In other words, even with a renewal, if player numbers continue to fall then MWO will cease to exist sooner rather than later.
If the future of MWO is so unclear and so apparently being left up to the whims of our ever dropping number of players, then perhaps the perceived value of that MWO content in the MW5 preorder is a bit less than it appears? I don’t know, but Russ seems to think there is a real possibility that the game in which it is content for may not be around for much longer.

Interestingly, if you preorder MW5:Merc, you'll be unable to perform a Steam refund. Steam will only process a refund if you bought directly from them. If you use a key, it's not their problem.
And if you try to get a refund from PGI, well... you did use those preorder bonuses already, didn't you?

I think OP was poking fun at Russ's desperation for us to purchase/pre-order MW:5 Mercenaries. I'm on the same boat with alot of people. I never pre-order anything now in days, because even triple A companies are diminishing established player trust and revealing their intentions of making their games blatant cash grabs. Now investors are getting involved which further escalates these poor decisions from such companies.
In PGI's case, I honestly can't be angry at them for anything since they fought hard for the future of unseens not only for MW:O, but for the future of Battletech as a whole. They didn't have to do that for the franchise. So even if MW:5 flops and they decide not to renew their license, they will be hopefully remembered for something very positive for future Mechwarrior licensee holders. Again, I haven't invested alot of money in MW:O so perhaps I'm a cheapskate.
I will buy a Rifleman IIC pack whenever they get around to making it to keep the lights on for MW:O a little longer. Considering some of the more desirable features of MW:5 Mercenaries like modding, I will wait until after the game releases to consider purchasing it for myself.

PGI is the issue for me.
The same guy that announced the original Faction Warfare "reveal" (Bryan Eckman) has been the "guy in charge" of making MW5. Nowhere during the original FW "reveal" did they bother to tell us that not only had they NOT EVEN STARTED working on FW yet, but that (at that point in time) they hadn't even secured their LICENSE RENEWAL FROM MICROSOFT to continue working on the franchise. And they wouldn't start working on FW at all, until after they got the license extension. And they kept that little tidbit of information secret for as long as they could, but when the player base found out about it, there were dumpster fires all over the forums.
None of that prevented Bryan from telling us how great FW was going to be, complete with "screen shots" of parts of the game, that didn't even exist yet.
Bear in mind while watching this video, during this entire presentation, Bryan knows that NONE of this work has even been started yet, and he KNOWS that none of it will even get started until after the license extension is secured from Microsoft.
But the presentation looks good, right? FW sounds good, right?
I wish we had actually gotten that game. I would LOVE to play that version.
So, yeah, I'll buy MW5 after it's full release. IF it doesn't suck.

So I wonder what the backlash would be.
MW5 going Epic Store exclusive REALLY worries me (especially it using Unreal as it's engine). I have already seen one game I was interested in go exclusive for a year, I'd hate to see this one do it too.
I feel like I already have too many accounts/launchers on my computer as it is, I hate to add more bloatware to the system (especially for a half-baked, barely functional storefront).
I am not a huge fan of Valve's practices with Steam, and lets face it, they brought this on themselves(and us by association). I just hate how fractured the PC gaming market is getting.

If this game goes exclusive to Epic, I am going to be upset.

but I want any connections with my MWO account at all
I just want to be some joe nobody like we used to buy games from the base PX/BX or best buy
I made to many mistakes in the MWO universe
also all my games have become prized possessions (MW2, MW4 for example)
I don't know maybe someone can change my mind about DLC games
one last thing PGI was going to have a meeting with Microsoft in Jan so I am also curious about that
You know that your MW5 account ist not connected to your MWO account and if you dont use the Codes to redeem the MWO stuff how will they find out?
There is no link at all then...given you use data (payment, e-mail…) that is not yet already linked with your MWO account.
PS: I would like to have the game on GoG but Steam is acceptable too and i would expect a costcut on the Steamside if Epic succeeds...

Ehh, let them go there, just dont make it exclusive.
You could do it like Metro without the exclusive deal, give a few bucks off (in Metro case 10$) and let the gamers sort it out.
Btw, I'm happy with the Epic store and it's free giveaways, and I am looking forward to rebel galaxy outlaw, even if it's a timed exclusive.
I really don't mind that much, at least for small dev teams its more money for them.
Also I've asked Russ in Twitter, said he would have a talk with Epic, and then a month or so later PGI released the MW5 preorder on Steam.
So I would not worry overly much.
I'm not sure PGI would survive a clash like Metro, and I'm sure they know it.

Unless it saves me something substantial, or provides me with a tangible benefit, I'll choose weather or not to buy it when it is released.
Minimally viable products of the past haven't wooed me.

There's a ton of bad things to be said about Steam now from a developer standpoint. I'll be buying all the games I can on the new Epic platform just to support competition with Steam. I say that as someone with a metric ton of games on Steam. However there needs to be good competition and the Epic platform seems to be off to a good start.

Exactly. I am 100% fine with the game on Epic, I would just hate for it to be exclusive on Epic.
BTW, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw was the game I was referring to as well when I said..."I have already seen one game I was interested in go exclusive...". I was really looking forward to this game as a Wing Commander: Privateer fan. Sadly, now I am most likely waiting a year after launch due to their decision. Who knows, maybe I am going to have to get Epic for something, but this game isn't it. Instead of them getting my money at launch (full price), they are most likely going to get a sale price earning a year after launch.
Again, who knows. I might cave (I did with the MW5 preorder lol), but I at least don't plan on it.

I don't mind that Epic exists as much as I don't like their exclusivity efforts. Just the fact that they take far less from devs (a good thing) means a game could be offered for less and still make more profit on Epic and undercut Valve that way. This whole exclusivity thing just feels wrong to me.
Also, I may be encouraged to go to Epic eventually, however their service is pretty rough right now. Even the recent news of Publisher/Developer Opt-in for reviews is a bit sketchy IMO. I get wanting to avoid review bombing, however this just feels too heavy handed.
Again though, more than everything, I am less upset about Epic existing and more upset by more companies splintering the marketplace and causing the players to install more launchers. If there is one good thing I can say about consoles, it's at least the games can all be bought in one spot.
Hopefully one day there will be an application that manages all these stores by portaling into each store for purchases, and managing libraries/patches. Essentially I could buy from anyone, and do it completely from one launcher application. I know Launchbox comes close, but I think it just manages libraries. I just want something that doesn't force me to run Origin, BattleNet, Steam, Epic, Bethesda Launcher, etc... all at the same time :/
Maybe one day. A person can dream.

Not sure I understand either... maybe it's about us being spammed to pre-order? I had to block MW5 Twitter's account to not see the retweets made by the MWO account but now the MWO account also tweets quite often to pre-order... grrr. Wondering if I should unsubscribe until pre-order period is over.
