Valve was crap early on too. Epic has gone for exclusives because it's a powerful way to drive traffic. A few dollars cheaper really doesn't - that's why people still buy from steam and not everything from HumbleBundle.
The reality is that Steam has steadily and significantly reduced what they give developers for that 30% cut. They justify it by having a functional monopoly on the buyers access to games. Epic won't have the revenue to build a strong platform without getting people to use them over Steam - hence the exclusives.
I would rather there were no exclusives, not between platforms or console/PC for that matter but that's the reality of business. I'm strongly in favor of supporting Epic because at this point Steam takes 30% of profits while providing absolutely nothing save a strangle hold on player access to games.
Do as you wish, but I can't support a communist owned entity having my information and collecting my data. It's a very insecure buggy launcher run by a host that has been cited multiple times for spying on users, selling private personal information, and being hacked multiple times. Epic (tencent) is flat out bribing devs paying them monies to release only on their store, how does that help consumers with choice and create a better overall marketplace?
BTW, not all games on Steam are split at 30%. Epic takes a nice chunk the same as all the other options in the market place while offering substantially less than what Steam offers.

I'll mostly agree with everything you said with one small exception. Over 15 years ago a company called Cryptic Studios kicked out a game called City of Heroes that had a small pre order format that nearly everyone felt was a good deal. Ten dollars paid for the game either online or at local brick and mortar shops which was applied towards the purchase price which gave you an exclusive movement power graphic and a 3 day head start of playing the game, on top of a month of beta testing. For what it's worth, the 2 months prior to launch in which the company was giving out beta test codes like candy netted the company some great player feedback which resulted in one of the very best MMORPG launches the world ever witnessed.
I guess we got away from the small portion investment for a pre order to it ramping up to the full purchase price which is something I no longer agree with.

I loved City of Hereos... so sad it went under. The best playerbase I have ever experienced in any online game I've played.

YUP nail on the head right there.
I fully expect to pick MW5 up on steam sale once the modding community has started to fix everything that will (undoubtedly) be wrong with it right out of the box. PGI has done some good things for Battletech (standing up to Harmony Gold) but that doesn't mean I'll go throwing my money at them for what I strongly suspect will be, at best, a half baked mostly broken product.
Maybe I'm wrong but given what we've seen out of MWO I know where I'm placing my bet.

A ******* men.
I could go on forever about how fun that game was. It was so easy to find a group, no one gave a **** if your build wasn't min-maxed, EVERY single character was different. I miss CoH/CoV so much.

I know man, I had so many online friends from that game and had so much fun playing with everyone in it. I think the reason being is that it wasn't PVP when it came out, so everyone who played had a help each other out mentallity

Even the peeps in the PVP zones were cool.
I played Villain side most of the time towards the end, and we'd stick a few masterminds in a corner on that oil rig level. Use a stalker to get someone aggro'd and then teleport them into our group of mobs. And like I could ask like literally anyone to group up and help gank people for funsies. People were cool in the super group raids and arenas too.

If the reviews are positive i would very much encourage everyone to pick up the game though as it supports the IP, encourages furure titles and DLC, encourages investment into yhe IP from Microsoft and supports a company that has improved.
Frankly you sound quite deluded which makes your opinion pretty useless - none of the preorders get you MW5 'for free'
$120 Ultimate less $70 for Marauder 2 ultimate = $50 for MW5
$80 Collector less $40 for Marauder 2 collector = $40 for MW5
$50 Standard less $20 for Marauder 2 standard = $30 for MW5
Now that is ignoring all the freebies that are included (which cost PGI nothing to include) but effectively you are paying at least $30 for MW5 and the more you spend the _less_ of a bargain it is.
It's terrible marketing even if you think the game will be worth buying

12,000 MC is $50 in MWO (and similarly for the other packages). In addition to that you get a $20 mech pack on top. That means you are getting $50 (MC) + $20 (pack) + MW5 if you were already going to buy the credits in MWO.
So yes, effectively one might consider MW5 free if they would already be buying MC/mechpacks in MWO. The package is the best MWO deal you can buy right now even if you didn't want MW5 for some reason. If you're a founder it's even better. Does that make it a good deal? That's up to you and how long MWO remains online. You are correct in that larger packages do seem to provide less overall value.
