Check out this insane build in the Rifleman IIC A.

RLFIIC A(2xLB20,4xERML,XL270)
RFL-IIC-A

Pretty excited to try out this build and Splat anything that walks in my way or the Gauss Lazer Meta with it.

Gauss Lazervomit would probably look like this.(2xGauss,4xERML,TC1,XL300)
RFL-IIC-A

So, this machine is anti air in the lore. With the low engine caps, all other 65 tonners will be superior... Unless this 'Mech gets quirked.
Being anti air, Sensors and Range Quirks are appropriate, as well as some arm buffs. The sandard Rifleman IIC in the TT is BRUTAL with the LPLs. The others... Well, they try. If they get quirks for the lore weapons, each could be viable... But, only because of the Quirks. Do not think of these as Heavy 'Mechs. Considere them 'Assault Buddies'. Stand next to the Mara IIC or the Mk II and shoot what they shoot.

This mech isnt going to be undergunned, it has the firepower and pod space of a assault. So it will be a formidable support mech alongside other assaults and heavies.

The speed is irrelevant, I assume that basically every tier 1 player can hit any mech under 90kph without too much difficulty. edit: sun spider for example, seriously when was the last time you didn't hit one of those?

What I want to know is, acceleration for peaking as the ability to forward then backward rapidly enables this to work, and torso twist speed for damage spread and target tracking.

edit: ok 235 is bad cap for one reason, you only get 9 base heat sinks which screws with energy build potential. At least make it 250-275. Oh and it can't keep up with clan assaults which it probably needs to be able to do.

As much as I like early adopter rewards this one will be a wait and see. Don't like the low engine cap and will wait to see quirks and if that dome is CT or not. Maybe buy the 2 or A with C-bills when it t comes out.

right up to the moment people realise there's a RFL-IIC standing next to the DWF it's "supporting" and instantly deletes it.

Assaults have firepower and go slow because they have the armor to go along with it. So unless the RFL-IIC has some stupid +30 armor to all location quirk, it's going to be a giant bullet magnet for everyone on the field. And that dome head isn't going to help with keeping a low profile either

I think I'll get the standard pack because the RFL-IIC-2 seems potent and the early adopter rewards colours look really nice.

I'm a bit leery on the 235 engine cap for the other standard pack mechs; I might take my loyalty Rifleman out with a 215 engine (58kph top speed) and some jump jets to see if I can keep up with my team and effectively utilize the extra tonnage towards firepower.

I agree Sensors and Range Quirks do seem appropriate especially with that hockey puck pancake head it should have something to offset its ug factor! :)

A lot of people mentioned/focused on 235...
But 2 of those mechs have max engine size of 315. Plus the RFL-IIC-2 comes with 3 JJ. :D

For those who don't know about these IIC models of the Rifleman.... It is NOT a omni-mech type chassis. The engine cap for the slower variants shold be raised to at least give it the 64kmph top speed in my opinion also.
Also it is mentioned in the background lore that the Rifleman IIC has a compact body arrangement... so PGI maybe should tweak the pixel target size arrangement to reduce the target scale a bit compared to other 60-65 ton mechs.

I also feel that the heat/damage to range ratios for pulse lasers to ER/Heavy lasers are not very balanced. I stated in previous postings that the heat to damage performances for clan lasers are out of alignment. Better range balances for effective range to extended ranges could be better balanced if they gave the same size class lasers the same extended ranges for IS and clan counter parts and only have the ER versions have better effective ranges.... i.e. give the clan versions steeper range/damage reductions curves at the beyond efective ranges.

The ER's have better range focusing versus the "Normal" ones.... No real difference to how far the light can travel.

Im not sure if the RIFLEMAN IIC is omni or not

It's a BattleMech and there are a few ways to tell from the store page (Blood Asp page used as the comparison);
- Rifleman IIC lists "MAX ENGINE RATING" because you can change the engine
- Blood Asp does not have this listed, as the engine is fixed
- Blood Asp has things like "Fixed Structure Slot" and "Jump Jet" listed in grey instead of white, because these are fixed and cannot be changed
- Rifleman IIC has no fixed equipment
- Blood Asp lists "OMNIPOD HARDPOINTS" because it can swap OmniPods
- Rifleman IIC only lists "HARDPOINTS" because it doesn't have OmniPods
- Blood Asp lists "Available Actuators" because they can be altered
- Rifleman IIC only lists "Actuators" because they cannot be altered

So, regardless of which pre-order I go for, the "Early Adopter" bonus remains the same, yeah? I assume that the special variant is just the IIC with a custom paint job and the same hardpoints, or am I wrong?

Also, off-topic, when are the 2 mechs from the Christmas Bonus event being shipped to our mechbays? I forgot. I might start playing MWO again just to check them out.

Yes, the (S) variant from the CE is just a custom paintjob & 30% C-Bill boost

The Holiday Bonus 'mechs arrive at the same time as the Warhammer IIC (19/02/19) and Corsair (19/03/19)

I'm not concerned about the RFL-IIC-2 because it has the higher engine cap. I think PGI might be shooting itself in the foot a bit with the low engine cap on the other variants; I see little desire to buy the Collector Pack to get the RFL-IIC(S) because it will be a struggle to make it work, and buying the Ultimate Pack to get 4 of the 6 mechs with the small engine cap seems a bit masochistic. I tried a couple matches in my loyalty Rifleman with a small engine including a Polar Highlands Domination nascar where I lost my left arm and spent most of the match trying to keep up with my teammates.

I intend to drop again with a slightly bigger engine to emulate a speed tweaked RFL-IIC (~63kph), but it's currently looking borderline as to whether it's fast enough to be useful. I don't see a 260 max engine cap on the slower variants as being unreasonable or game-breaking, it's the stock engine size for two of the variants, and would allow purchasers to put the RFL-IIC-2 and RFL-IIC-A engines into the slower variants while buying a bigger engine for the faster mechs, so PGI might want to consider that change to improve pack sales (and the overall enjoyment of the mech when it's released).

Another way to offset this from other 65 tonners would be to give it faster Torso Traverse, as well as to give it an extended range of motion... Go full 'Urbie' and give it a 360° Traverse!
