I think that's a really interesting idea. Probably won't happen until Mechwarrior VIII, I imagine.

They did that... go play Mechassault and Mechassault 2... The Mechwarrior community at large pretty much dislikes those games, because they essentially killed mechwarrior titles until MWO.

It didn't kill the franchise.

What a lot of people don't realise is it wasn't aimed at the hardcore BT players. It was designed for console players who didn't know the franchise and certain concessions had to be made for the target audience.

Licenses are what put the franchise in limbo.

Remember all the chaos of MekTek releasing MW4:MekTek Edition after working on it for a decade... licenses...
Remember Living legends shutting down development, licenses...

If you want to complain about a game that did a number on the franchise look at MechWarrior:Tactics.

I was given that game as a birthday present. I played it through, and I will say this... the bossfight at the end when the music changes to "Getting Away With Murder" was the best part, and most memorable "good" thing about that game.

Mech lab has a skewed perspective. Those cannons aren't as big on the battlefield and you have a full control over what part of your mech to expose/hide. I mean, what's next? Are we going to complain about marauder's CT hitbox being too wide?

Mech assult was good for what it was. But the problem was it tryed to be more then it was, it tryed to make up own lore and history for its self, so i sadly i am one of those few people who enjoyed MA for the gameplay aspect more so then anything else.

Those shoulder mounts are tall, but the top half is short, and the much longer bottom half is in front of the torso (not on top of the torso).

But the MWO version has the whole shoulder mount sitting above the shoulders, twice as high, and the top half is way too long, which probably makes the BSA by far the mech with the highest, widest profile in all MWO.

So that's two design flaws for the MWO version :
- Move them lower : Only the top half should be above the torso.
- Respect the length : That top half that's sitting above the shoulder should be WAY shorter.

Longer would have been fine.
Raising them *and* making them thicker was... a real PGI move.

“PGI should listen to the community!”

“PGI did listen to the community.”

“No, not *that* part of the community!”

The Blood Asp is a decent assault, ECM and high mounts and clan tech make it competitive, and better than many other assaults. I swear, unless they release a new Madcat II-B, Slipnjr or Scorch, people will complain it’s unusable. People are just touchy when things they want to be OP come out only about average. People then complain about power creep if something that competes with the top few is actually released.

I’m kind of glad PGI doesn’t do everything the community asks, because on most issues it’s quite schizophrenic and fickle.

Actually PGI listened to a small portion of the community on Twitch. The feedback on the "Official Forum" right here was overwhelmingly negative in response to the proposed change. I counted in the threads back then and it was something like 70-80% saying, "NO!! Don't nerf the Blood Asp with those silly long weapon pods".

Also of the people commenting even on twitch, there were very few outraged by the short pods with most just saying they would have preferred the longer pods. On the other side, there were a ton of people pretty outraged by the nerf, including myself.

That being the case, I think defining the change as "Listening to the community" is kind of a stretch.

Now cut the length in half and thing about how much smaller and harder to hit the hitbox would have been had they left the shorter length pods in the game. Adding 30-40% to the surface area of the side torso is a pretty big nerf and brought the overall durability of the mech down quite a bit but hey gosh darn it, It LOOKS GOOD!!!

The frontal profile is good though, so it's not a total wash. I saw them used exceptionally in FP by a group who all dropped in them as their top deck. The pods seem pointless being higher than the cockpit until you need to fire over another 'Mech, then it becomes great at avoiding hitting smaller friendy targets. Of course, they would also miss enemy Lights as well!
