Looking at those links I think I know where the confusion is coming from. As far as I can recall the queue has always been 8v8 until it went to 12v12.

However, there weren't always separate group and solo queues. Similar to FP at the moment, groups would get matched against pure solo players. This led to a lot of complaining from the solo players. As a result PGI at one point limited groups to a maximum size of 4 players. This led to some pushback from groups who couldn't play with their friends so if I remember correctly PGI implemented an 8v8 group only matchmaker (what comp players used to sync drop). Basically, you could drop in groups of 4 or less or in a group of 8. All the matches were still 8v8 though.

It's been a long time so I could be confusing some of the details, but I'm pretty sure that's the context those post are in.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I'd forgotten about the old group limitations. God, those 4 member group size limitations SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED...

They're the only 'new' maps we're going to see this year.

Some of the classic maps are better and more interesting. There are more deliberate design features in the old versions.

They are nice, the new big forest colony is horrible and boring compard to the original one same goes for Frozen City.
Bigger maps but actually less fun and dynamic.

I like the classic maps. It's different mix of stupid, cause I'm tired of all the fruitless nascar.

perhaps the lack of new maps. but still with so few maps in the game its amazing anyone is asking pgi to delete them. its silly. and this goes for any 'x should be removed from game' type posts. stop being stupid.

Also no voting maps because again maps all should rule os by the mighty Rnadom god algorithm of maps!

Remember, that went both ways, it sucked for teams forming up and it sucked for the solo pugs for different reasons. Teams almost always utilized external VOIP since PGI in their infinite wisdom did not have it as part of the game until finalizing it in Feb 2015.. AFTER CW (aka FP for newbies) had gone live.

Nor where there markers to indicate who was on a team nor how many teams per side, so sides may not have been balanced in that aspect, afaik a side either had no grouped players, or may have had anywhere from 2-man to 4-man. Attempted to generate a timeline below using generated threads.
