Would a GOL-1H GOLIATH make an interesting choice for the next Assault Mech?

I know that the original "Unseen" will never be in it, and I am pretty sure most of us found the Project Phoenix version utterly laughable. So I decided to try to make a less dumb version. The mech is somewhat handicapped in melee combat and short range, but those are not as big a concern on MWO. On the other hand, it makes one heck of a fire suupport platform.

Maybe? (yes I know you want a Devastator, Annihilator etc... just throwing out an option.

I admit, the Goliath would be an interesting addition to the lineup, but I ain't holding my breath. As much as I love quads, the probability of any being added to the game anytime soon is remote.

The Project Phoenix one was laughable? I liked it. The original now, THAT is laughable.

I'm all for quad 'Mechs and the diversity they'll bring, but not now. When the time comes though, the Goliath, Tarantula and others have my vote. I would love to see a Thunder Fox, but they don't come around till way later.

Animationg quads on non flat terrains takes a LOT more effort, and a lot more animation sets on order to look right.

The odds on quads ever showing up are pretty slim.
I'm not against quads, I'm just familiar with the animation issues regarding them.
I'd give 99-1 odds against them ever being in.

I like the artwork, one thing though, the Devs have stated a design intent to reduce the profusion of long range combat (Gauss, large laser etc) by designing maps specifically with terrain designed to assist short range combat, this being the case why is a handicap in melee and short range combat not a big concern in MWO?

Will happily wait for the Goliath and the Scorpion!
Four legs for the leggers to shoot at!
I would have one in my slots.

The Goliath is a solid design. Great for fire support and sniping.

With the option of side-steping, the Goliath can take cover without changing direction of his movement. Thats a great advantage. The option of hull down and still have all weapons available makes him a small target to.

I really hope to see 4 leged mechs - and the Goliath is simple in his use.

It is a good Design, I guess. Quads seems to be a good variant for long range support!

Could definitely be interesting, but I doubt we'll see them for many years yet, assuming MWO successfully lasts that long!

no, there aren't enough 'basic' variants. Same goes for many of the mech people want. The way the mechXP tree looks to work

Quote

the player needs to not only unlock all upgrades on tiers 1-4 of this model, but they have to do the same for every initial variant. After they access and spend XP to unlock Elite I, tier 5 is then accessible for all initial variants.

So any mech that gets added will need to have several variants available that don't inculde lots of advanced 'tech

How would the Goliath function seeing what we know about how aiming works in MWo.

For those who don't know...

You aim the torso by pointing the arms so you have two targeting reticules one on the arms one for body mounted weapons. The arm reticule leads the torso so pointing the mech's arms right would have the torso swing right until both reticules aligned.

Goliath has no arms and no torso to twist.Would likely put it at a huge disadvantage.

The fact that quads can sidestep alone would make them invaluable in MWO. Talk about easily breaking out of circles of death...

GOL-2H - The 2H is a Periphery upgrade of the 1H model. The 'Mech removes the Machine Guns from the chassis and adds in their place six Rocket Launcher 10s. This gives the Goliath a very powerful close range punch.

along with x1 PPC,x2 LRM-10's.
you would be hard pressed to stop this mech from rampaging all over your base
