ive been in many games where a ragtag assortment of pugs managed to stomp a major unit. its somewhat rare but it happens. units are going to win against pugs most of the time. this is why the match maker was implemented. pugs are now free to pick up the mode if they want a mechwarrior experience with more depth. its just enough of them have to show up first.
i dont really care if people bring lerm boats, but you do have to avoid bringing to many support mechs. one per deck is about enough. the units don't bring support mechs, they bring front line mechs so that when their front line mechs meet our front line mechs we are short one, or several. not to say support mechs dont have a role, its just that too many of them and the support line becomes the front line and it folds rapidly.
Something I've personally see happen, but of course you are talking community warfare, which I don't play and have no interest in any longer. I'm talking quickplay, where roughly 80% of the player base is.

We've been waiting since 2013-4 for them to follow an actual plan.
These past 5-4 years they only did it for a bit but then went all over the place as usual.
Well hello Scout. As far as plans go, and this goes for game developers too, I'm gonna say this: Plans Never Survive 1st Contact With The Enemy. What enemy you say? Well for PGI a number of them, take your pick. Picky, b$itchy player base, lack of funding, laziness of staff, inability due to software/hardware limitations, unwillingness for any party to compromise, time itself. All of these factors and I'm sure more contribute to plans constantly needing to be adapted or changed. Sometimes whole plans must be tossed out and you have to start from scratch. I'm not trying to excuse the Dev's here, PGI needs to get their act together and they are well aware of it.
Whether they do or not is ultimately on them, but as players I feel we should give them the benefit of the doubt where needed, support them when needed, and call them out on stuff as needed. This forum thread so far, has been nothing but calling them out when not needed, not supporting them at all, and giving zero benefit of the doubt whatsoever. The amount of salt in this thread is so outrageous that I am surprised I don't have sodium poisoning (yes that's a thing). I stand by my statement that you so kindly quoted: people need to calm down, shut up, and be patient. If it was bad news, we'd know, if PGI was gonna cut and run, we'd know. Since we know nothing, assume the best but prepare for otherwise and adapt the plan where needed.
