The irony is that you're wrong, despite the fact that you should be right. You SHOULD be able to use the various skill trees to help make up for some shortcomings in a mech while being able emphasize some of its strengths, rather than only capitalizing on strengths. But the fact that the mobility skill tree is purely % based boosts means that, on a mech with GARBAGE base numbers like the DWF, taking every mobility node results in a mech that's... pretty nearly identical to where it started, despite your investment. Yeah, it'll handle better... but it's rearranging deck chairs, you're actually shooting yourself in the foot.
you dont need the whole mobility tree, just as many speed tweak and torso speed nodes as you can get. dire has good vertical aiming so you dont need torso pitch, torso yaw is nice to have but you usually can live without it. you can almost entirely skip the upper right quadrant of the tree all together as thats all leg buffs. you need the torso speed nodes if you are not gong for alpha over dps so you can twist. and an extra 4 kph is life or death in a nascar situation. you usually still have enough nodes for the armor tree and the part of the offensive tree you decided to boat. the dire is so easy to redline that going for cooldown nodes is actually bad for you.
inefficient use of node space it may be, i consider it essential to the usability of the dire. its like how i use incandescent bulbs in my shop despite the fact that they are only 5% efficient compared to 60% like the led bulbs, but the incandescents still have superior lighting quality for the work i do.
