Classic Frozen City map is simply too small for current game environment. I mean 12vs12 and deadlier mechs with improved weaponry.
Matches are 3 minute meat grinders. Its no fun.

Yesterday i tried to do some maneuvering, just to increase my chance to survive. I just got yelled at that "assaults should learn the map... blah blah blah"....

https://aijaa.com/jBBmNv
https://aijaa.com/OVnCxN

3 minutes to go from 0/0 to 9/7.
Haven't gotten match in the classic Forest Colony yet but i suspect it has the same issue. These maps were designed for 8vs8.

I don't want to play these maps.

didn't make a damn if difference whether it's 8v8 12v12, now or four years ago.

You do need to learn the map and not do dumb stuff like walk up that ramp, if the other lances nascar right. and your doing skirmish mode

If they nascar right you turn around and find the ramp behind.

This has two effects.

1. you don't get swamped by the other teams fasts, while your trying to position.

2 with luck they go ohh shinny when they can't find you, and attack the nascaring idiots that should have supported you from the get go

I like that map ! Because it's outright funny watching entire teams trying to NASCAR on it !!! Some of the funniest moments I've had in this game have been on the new (old) maps !!!

And, I am surprised that the brawling community, you know, those guys/gals they built Solaris for, aren't ecstatic over small, cluttered and un even maps???!!!

Sigh..... Never happy. Anyway, they are a breath of fresh (old) air. Now, if PGI would really fix Faction Play...........sigh.

Match is over in 3min 19 sec.

Its pretty safe to say that teams take 1 minute to position themselves before the first blood is drawn.

This is stupid map for current environment.

I'd take this map if it was 8vs8

It's great.

Action happens fast, pretty much all playstyles viable. You can brawl, you can vomit, you can dakka you can peek and trade, you can knife fight..

I know, how damn awesome is it???!!!!!!!!

Rather than spend the first 60-80s walking across the map like Polar Assault.
Or sitting camping on Frozen City Assault.
Or some static stuffery on Alpine Dom/Assault

You are in and out of a big phat game in 4mins.

We are BLESSED! No more forever-walking.

I'll take the near instant action over the 5 minutes of pugs walking off in a dozen different directions or hard nascar that happens on new maps. The OG maps made for the most fun game play. The people who seem to complain are LRM boats who aren't able to sit in the back,

I'd prefer 8v8 over 12v12 in general, regardless of map. That being said: I love the return of the classic maps, Frozen City and Forest Colony. Best maps ever, regardless of force sizes.

All QP modes should be reverted to 8v8 like they were originally meant to be played. It has nothing to do with old maps or new maps. We all know that 12v12 was just a cheapskate change in order to save server load or whatever.

They need to rebalance the modes:
  • Solaris: 1v1/2v2
  • Quickplay: 8v8
  • Faction Play: 12v12 with respawn (Scouting: 4v4)

It gives FP that "grand battle" feeling, more mechs on the field than you'd see in QP and re-enforcements incoming.... you could even keep the 12v12 without respawn given the new phase system:
  • Phase 1 - Scouting
  • Phase 2 - 12v12 without respawn
  • Phase 3 - 12v12 with respawn
  • Phase 4 - 12v12 Siege mode

It's a wonderful map! You git into the fight quick and it turns into dirty knife fighting quick... love it!

I like these old, smaller maps because without so much space, there's less time to fall into the same old "positioning" ruts. It's hard to NASCAR (as many have pointed out) but its also harder for big LRM-boats to fade back and avoid sharing armor. Conversely, its easier to stay with your team, because there's really nowhere else to go.

Also, a benifit of its size is the brevity of matches. If you do manage to utterly f^ck yourself, the match will be over shortly.

Exactly that. The old maps are good, people not beeing able to adapt just have a problem.

All the bigger maps involve walking to the same 6x6 grid square area to fight the same fight over and over, so your argument that the map is 'too small' is inaccurate.

i think the other good thing is if you're not that strong of a player in certain skills, this map lets you do those things without too much fear.

for example, if you want to do a bit more "hang back/trading" but you're worried about being left behind by your team, or getting bounced on, or just being way out of position- on a map like this it's going to be a bit easier for you. you can sort of hang back a little bit doing some dakka or poking, but your team is never too far away.

you're not going to end up by yourself in zimbabwe, because you're just never going to be that far from help. would be a good place to try different styles of play for players who have been hesitant to try them because of the uber-nascar or lrmpocalypse maps.

NO ITS NOT !

Im always in the C-lance, and in this map theres nothing else to do than sponge some damage. This map is garbage for c-lance.

Im sure that people in the A- and B-lance finds it fun farming some juicy dmg/scores off big guys.

I'm in C lance almost all the time too, and I don't find I'm having the same issues you describe. More often than not I manage to get into decent position on this map while driving Whales, Annis, KCs, and other 100 tonners with half the speed of a building. The fights are quick, fierce, and efficient, and I much prefer them to walking for 3+ minutes just to get into the 'battle zone' of the bigger maps.

I have a - probably revolutionary suggestion...

If Team 2 and in Charlie lance... Do NOT walk up the hill infront. Turn around and go the back way.

Not hard to use common sense.

Thank me later for basic map movement intelligence.

For myself, if I'm not in Charlie Lance I'll make a beeline to B4 to be there when Charlie Lance comes up because that's likely where the brawling will start. I'll cover the hill for peeking enemies and give cover for those doing the maneuver I describe below.

If I am in Charlie Lance I'll go up the ramp, hang a right (not great to turn your back on the enemy, but if you do it quick they won't be there yet and always twist so if you do get shot it's more likely an arm that gets hit), then hang a left to swing around into the C4 area to aim through the buildings for anyone crossing the gap, get a view of the hill for peeking enemies, and it gives you the option to continue to the wing of the crashed ship and circle around to come at them from there.
