This is meant as a pragmatic topic.
We play this game for fun and want it to stay!

And 1 part of that is the amount of players/customers.
More players would help this game(play) allot.

How can we promote this game to get more new or returning MWO players.
  • Advert for free or pay.
  • More 'twitch' streams.
  • New Player guide
  • Keep smiling on the battlefield to new players (welcome).
  • .
  • .
  • .
Let's have at it and see how we can work on that from the community side.

Ps: I'll adapt this OP.

You had 700.000 registered players of MWO (duno if Steam players create a forum account as well - but when I started with MWO there was only the forum Posted Image )

I think thats all you would ever get.

Not much the community can do really. We give our feed back and pgi does what pgi does. I've tried many times to get new players to join. They've quit for many reasons such as:

-hud/ui colors they can't see being visually impared. Yellow texted weapon name on yellow back ground exe for IS.
-font type/size text is too small to read
-little to no documentation on things in mech lab
-blew their money on a mech they just hate or can't get to work aka the atlas looks cool.
-died instantly in a light expecting to "take a hit or two"
-can't play on same side on a team which is private lobbies now
-trial mechs are greatly under powered to a skilled out mech

Private lobbies are the best way to do a master-padawan aproch to getting some one learning the game or join and droping in a casual/newbie friendly unit. Vidoes on youtube and testing grounds doesn't really teach how to handle different battlefield variables.

MWO had over a million unique accounts at one time.

Its PGIs fault they did nothing with that

No! The community seal clubbed the player base to death and PGI let it happen. Attitudes haven’t changed.

All things like advertising does is bring in seals to club to death and seals aren’t an endless resource.

As far I know Russ did never Mention that he wants to shut down the Servers. Just that the income that the game creates is low now.

For all we know the license with MS will not allow them too. Bu really they wouldnt even think about it until mw5 sales dry up. So end of next year might be about right.

I was seriously thinking about bringin a friend to this game but...how?

I am Tier 1 with +140 mechs and 200 Mio C-Bills.

I can not donate my buddy some money to get out of trial mechs and because he teams up with me, he meets lethal enemies right from scratch. Talk about motivation if you get cored as a trial newb within seconds...

The new player experience is terrible for years. You want to play with a friend? Then u have to suffer against big groups in group queue. That's why all my friends stopped playing MWO entirely.

Steam led a lot of people to the game, but it couldnt be sustained. Twitch streams need either popularity or money, which PGI doesnt have neither. Community cant do wonders if the product is "broken". Hell, most of us mechwarrior-aficionados hoped for several years that things get better you think any casual gamer cares after he tried this for a week? ****** stock mechs, confusing and grindy Skilltree + bad matchmaker because of low population. Thats your gaming experience as a noob.

same. ive seen multiple friends quit because of the state of group queue.

people want to play games with friends. but its not enjoyable when your small casual group of 2-3 players loses every single match because of elitest groups that team stack and farm casuals.

thats when people just quit and go play other games that they CAN enjoy with their friends.

I wouldnt say its the biggest problem MWO has but its up there. top 5 certainly.

You reap what you have sown....

Sow toxic FP gameplay and teams.........you reap losses of entire teams.

Sow a grind that is terrible............and, you reap losing more new players than you keep.

Sow an arrogance and indifference to customers...........and, you lose all integrity as a business........and that, is the end.

And, here we few are...... Lamenting all that was and will never be again because of "indifference and a serious lack of business skills...." It's not like they couldn't fix this ! There are some very smart players and most would have "volunteered" to help ! We are an exclusive, small niche market for heaven's sake !!

We'll use MWO as a teaching example in the e-Sports program ! Of, what not to do.......

What really hurt this game's growth is the inability to play with small casual group of friends. Even just introducing them to the game is difficult. You'd think it wouldn't be because it's a 'team game'. But that's actually working against it. Group queue you face organized larger more experienced groups. To top it off trial mechs are horribly out of date and are at a severe disadvantage without skill bonuses. Even without trial mechs, new players are just at a disadvantage when playing with friends. You pretty have to chuck them into solo queue on their own if you want to give them a fair chance against other t5s. Rather than playing with the friend that introduced them.
