1 - It's way too easy to customize mechs, which is why sales of mechpacks have tanked. When you can buy one or two chassis in each weight class and customize them to any role you want to play, then there's no real point in dozens of different chassis.
2 - Low Slung Arm Syndrome should not be a thing in this game. Mechs are supposed to be able to raise their arms.
3 - All the QP game modes are basically Skirmish with minor variation. The game needs objectives beyond "blow up the bad guys."
4 - User-developed maps. Yeah, most of 'em would suck, but at least there'd be variety instead of "NASCAR around this bit and forget the rest of it."
5 - Jump jets that let you actually, y'know, jump.
6 - Melee combat: push, punch, kick, charge, death from above. Which would also bring mechs like the Hatchetman and Nightsky into the game.
7 - IS vs Clans rather than "whatever mech shows up" matchmaking. Also would include House vs House, merc unit vs merc unit. Not mish-mash fights.
8 - Destructible environments. If I want to shoot the red dorito on the other side of the building, I should be able to shoot holes in the building to do it.
9 - Show me which map I'm going to be on, then let me pick my mech.
10 - Speaking of which, random map choice rather than the voting system, but with the option of choosing a map and then waiting for a game until enough other players also pick that map.
12 - Weapons that should already be in the game, like Swarm and Thunder LRMs, inferno SRMs, Thunderbolt launchers, and so forth.
13 - AI-controlled vehicles running around causing mischief: tanks, hovercraft, VTOLs, etc. And Elementals.
14 - An overall goal to work toward. Something like accumulating bonuses to unlock more advanced tech, or more cbills, or supply caches that held items that were useful.

This game had/has huge potential. Since the first time I opened the basic BattleTech box set, I've wanted a game that puts me in the cockpit and has kick-*** graphics and real edge-of-your-seat action. MWO comes close, but so many of the little details are wrong. Fix that and win back the fanbase.

Nothing can safe MWO 1.0

The old Crew from animationsspecialists, Coders and Programmers ,thats heavy modiefied the cryengine gone 2014/15 to other companys or build new lifeways..so PGI bleeded out .latest after the internal Conflicts around Transverse disaster and Reddit banwave

The Personal Market with Guys thats have Experience in the Cryengine is empty

with no Programmers and Coders thats can work with the PGI engine, no real Future and new Basic Elements like Melee , or IK for MWO and no Update to UE4

So nothing can save MWO, only after MW5 and when the new Crew has enough experience , PGI can work to a new MWO 2 from Basement to UE4
MW5 has nothing elements for a Multiplayer in the Basecoding and no elements for it that can Modders use ,so its only coop or singleplayer .
MWO 2.0 must begun from the basics new.

Its the sad True ...PGI has not a Crew for MWO since Years ! and MW5 with UE4 was the only step to hold PGI to life .....its like to find a Specialist for a 90th Years old Car, and you find only modern Car workers on Market..PGI have great Artists , for really heavy works with the Engine, you must have Programmers, coders and Animationspecialists with Experience for the heavy personalizied ( most from Karl Berg) Version of PGIs Cryengine

It needs advertising. Most (younger) players i know from other online games even dont know what a mech is.

You always had BAD advertising.

Do advertising.

All games die. Some sooner than later. After almost a decade, mwo doesn't have anything left to prove. The only reason to keep it alive is to squeeze the last bit of revenue out to go into mw5 development.

Ye, Counter Strike called and wants to have a word with you. I started playing when it started as a mod, and even when it was "released" as a retail game a decade ago it is still beeing one of the most played games today. Why? Because it gets tons of content, mostly from the community, you know, those type of guys that dont meet PGI´s standards. But that kept it alive all these years although the gameplay, excluding mild and fun minimal variations, is pretty the same for almost 20 years. It became a successful Esport and prints tons of money with its cosmetics.

Nothing.
Waldorf Stadler has summed it up quite perfectly.

In the end PGI isn't a welfare company and only cash counts.
It doesn't count if they screw it up themselves.
MWO has reached its financial life time and that means good by in the next time.

All the changes can be released in a MWO 2.
But not in MWO.
That would make sense for a company (not for us sorrowly)

The best is to enjoy it as long as it last and then look back at some good years of big stompy war machines.

at the end of the day i think we should just admit its an arena shooter and just give players better control over the arenas. i want a system where i could set up a stock urbie city map conquest with a 10k resource point objective, a 1 hour game clock, and a drop deck. this would show up in a lobby browser where other players can see what im trying to do and join up. it sure beats having a button where i have to wait for the same boring old match over and over again. at least add some game rules to the match vote. being able to vote for stock mode would be awesome.

everything thats wrong with this game comes from the fact that they keep trying to build some other kind of game out of an arena shooter. it will never be an mmo, the big war aspects of fp were never going to work. stop trying to make the game something its not.

Allowing more player control over matches would be a nice addition. More customizable user interface would be nice. FFor instance I'd love to have weapon groups that cycle from one button. It would prevent accidental alphas, and allow some other nice tricks with weapon groupings.

Mixing up the spawn points and finding a way to stop everyone from just circling where the big dish normally sits. Maybe some random barriers, like on faction play, but spaced randomly around the map, not just in the spawn points.

So many cool areas on maps are ignored.

Utterly.

Because everyone just runs to the main NASCAR spots.

Nothing listed here is a major coding problem.

Completely new executive level management,100 employees, and about a $20,000,000 injection to fund the new development team's engine transfer and map generation efforts for a year.

That would be a great start.

Anything that involved Russ and Paul still running the show is a nonstarter, as far as success.

We did advertising at the e-Sport clubs on campus in 2017 and 2018. Zero interest in this game with about 1200 students.

I even showed them the semi-finals from 2017 and they thought those matches were boring and stupid....

No interest because this niche market has no competitive appeal to them:.......1) because it's quasi military; and, 2) there's nothing in it for them financially.....

Only the Boomers are interested; but even they, especially the Veterans, are not fond of the silly in game mechanics.......!

Heck, some of the Boomers like me have played every MWO theme and most of us didn't join till 2017 because of poor reviews....

Whatever the exact actions taken, it would require a renewed financial commitment to development. In it's current form the game is running obselete so new engine and graphics etc.

I think one thing that could help a lot is support for a few more key laguages. The Russian and asian markets for gaming is huge and they like mechs, but English only is a limiting factor. There are also European countries where English is not that common.

Online only games require ongoing attention, lots of it. So it's more a matter of choice and investment than a matter of exact changes.

1. Upgrade to the Unreal engine. This game is going to need an engine update for any hope of it thriving in the future.

2. Developer patch notes being released to the public a week or two before launch with public feedback. This can be done via polls with patch note changes that can be voted on by the community. If something is overwhelming positive, then the change is implemented in the next patch. If it is negative, then the developers can go back to the drawing board with the help of constructive criticism from the community.

3. More changes to make MW:O appear to be actively apart of the battletech universe. Simple changes like text bios behind the history of each mech and major battles that have/will take place in FW with possible narration. Maybe hire profession voice actors for audio log bios behind major battletech characters like Aleksandr Kerensky and Aidan Pryde to make players feel way more immersed.

4. Maybe have ready rooms that are IS/Clan themed reskins instead of the generic docking bay. Examples are the old Mechwarrior 2 ready rooms from Jade Falcon, Wolf, and GBL ready rooms or appropriate themed docking bays.

5. Tanks, VTOL's, Aerospace, and infantry. Even if the game is called Mechwarrior Online and the primary focus is battlemechs, maybe have war themed maps or new game modes where Tanks, VTOL's, Aerospace and infantry fight along side of your mech for Faction Play. For Quick Play make the AI scripted not target other player controlled mechs.

6. More rebalancing of forgotten and unpopular mech chassis'.

7. A revisit to faulty balancing mechanics like ghost heat and Gauss rifle charge up times.

If you advertised mwo's ****** game mechanics as a feature, no wonder you didn't get any interest. No one plays this game for its mechanics. They play the game for the idea, nostalgia, lore and whatnot. Your target audience isn't a bunch of campus students. Your competitors aren't fortnight and pubg. So why are you approaching THEIR target audience?

Your experience is a great example of how BAD advertising doesn't work.

What would save MWO?

Actual progress, actual effort, smart decisions. PGI was capable at some degree, that was the LRMs dual-arc rework, but it took effort from them.

Basically PGI not being PGI. Or maybe another company that is not PGI.

Merchandise: Like cups, t-shirts, coats, hats, action figures, gloves, coasters, etc.
Update graphic engine.
Quad mech(s)
More war horns.

Dunno if you can do this, mech intercom, to yell at other players like the apposing mechs on the battlefield. "You want to take me on?!"
Like to monitor my computer system info/spec on one of those monitors that do nothing in the cockpit. Like when pressing F9, shows little info on top left of screen. But would be best on one of those screens, temps/fps/specs/name of your mech/computer name (if you have one). My comp is "SuperBee"

At the 8:05 minute mark. You will see a Quad in action, coming out of DropShip, then in action. From the Cartoon Battletech series.
