Well, I think we've derailed this topic enough, so I won't be replying to comments about my person anymore. It was fun, though.

And seems like this is an extremely hot topic now, so there's a good chance more people will read it. Thank you for that. I'm almost giddy at the thought of how much entertainment people who read this "discussion" are going to have.

But, until there are new developments on the AI - or until I go play the demo again and find new ways to abuse the AI - I don't think I'll have reason to post on this topic.

I may make a new video with more details on the AI on the other topic, though. Even though I'm not very good at making videos and don't really like it. Oh, what I won't do for MW5.

You're not good with accepting valid arguments either, so we won't expect anything useful anyway, spare your breath for release Posted Image

Here.
Some positive reality about the game. You guys went down the rabbit hole. Trying to bring things back.

Nothing crazy, just demonstrating the lock-in (soft) with the dev cam. Zoomed way out, it almost looks like a top-down/isometric shooter (hint modders).
Also shows your lance and how they move. The AI is reactionary, and generates pathing based on what is available relative to the players movement and direction. neato.

My thoughts

Never before,
  • Has piloting an Atlas been so much fun.
  • Enjoyed witnessing dropping in a conflict zone with 3 other lancemates as you rotate to your designated exit point. That part is fantastically done. Really drives across that you are on an insertion.
  • Thought mixed-build load-outs can co-exist with meta in the same game. Have found synergy in builds that I thought I'd never try. A single SRM 6 can be a very powerful back-up weapon, and thus actually justified.

Seriously, people need to realize that already, so much of this game has been done right.
We wanted vehicles. The base game has a lot of vehicles from tanks, to flyers. Even close up the models are very detailed.
Weapon effects are beautiful.
RTX may be a technological fluke (Open-source always wins folks), but that can not take away from the awesome lighting effect already present in game. I love the way that the lighting reflects off hard/soft surface in game. Plus it works with my non RTX 1060.

It has come to my attention that apparently the devs have promised us AI fixes and to make enemy mech encounters more dangerous in release.

So, if this holds true, I for one will be very happy.

I am now waiting for release with a little more excitement! :)

Modding is still my biggest source of excitement.

Sure, new mechs and AI and such but why stop there?

New Betty voices, famous movies and other games (Skyrim Voice Pack. I'm sworn to carry your burdens!)

Or adult entertainment quips Betty (OH GAWD I'M SO HAWT RIGHT NOW)

How about some companion AI voice packs from long time MWO streamers and vets. Come on, you don't want B33f voice pack? How about token comp guy asking WTF you're shooting at, or pug n00b constantly recommending NASCAR.

In keeping with every other popular modded game in history I'm just curious to see what the nudity mods and anime faces and high heels will look like in MW5.

Reading these topics is almost like reading similar stuff about MWO all those years back in 2012 ... almost. Same BetaTM excuses, same posted pretty pictures while core game mechanics remain broken, same "oh, but they are working so hard" nonsense. The difference is, that there are people here who's actually going through the exact same PGI routine for the second time (if you don't count Transverse I guess lol). And tbh its quite funny to see how they are getting attacked for wanting an actually good game and having a well-argumented logical position regarding current flaws by kiddies who joined MWO in like 2018 and literally have no idea about anything (except maybe Timberlake).

Yeah well, nothing new. Carry on. Fallout 76 is a Solid GameTM.

The difference is, we have tried the demo and it's a decent game. Few tweaks are required and it's perfectly possible that MW5 will be good. The people that "want a good game" have argument based on hyperbole but think that their understanding is on a higher level. If in fact, they had mentioned flaws in UI design, some sound effects and lack of focus fire, then it'd be valid. But all they're doing is shout and claim importance for their feelings. Plus, it's a SP game which already is being planned for modding.

Then there comes someone with a false equivocation fallacy.

The demo has it flaws, I think there is no need to debate that. Some people that raise concern are just...lets say a bit loud in how they voice their opinion but that goes for the other side as well.

Point is most of us aren't game designers, let alone have indeepth knowledge of how things work. So yes you can raise your concern or defend the game as is, just watch your tone people. Sometime its less about what you say but how.

I just had one of my AI lancemates shoot me in the back during the Instant Action demo.

Apparently, he was trying to shoot through me at an enemy.

It was just like an MWO Quick Play match.

Well there is a single important difference - stuff was removed from MWO for reasons, and MW5 will not have stuff for reasons, to start with - in the end however, both will not have stuff for reasons.

BTW: if PGI had stopped being PGI (Something I have waited some years to happen) you can have all the fun you can have from MW5 for the next 2-3 weeks.

I have actually just discovered some neat **** in the RTS toolkit for unreal engine 4, including premade Command AI (which I can use as a base for mw5's HQ) as well as premade squad ai that treats multiple bodies as a single unit, i.e. a squad of infantry that can act and tax the system as a single ai unit. So, if I use some lower poly but well-textured models I could put infantry on the ground and have them orchestrate to set up support guns and provide possible attacks from on or near buildings, as well as utilize a premade apc script to have them be able to board and disembark from vehicles ...

All for just 5 bucks to be able to use in my own games or modding. As you can imagine I already bought it.

Everyone I talk to outside of the Old Gold MWO forums and Outreach HPG is outright ****ting on both the game and PGI for their long and sordid history of poor business decisions and slap-shod game design

Those guys are not reviewing the MW5 "beta", they are reviewing PGI.

Weapons first, then AI. Need the weapons and jumpjet changes in order to make sure the AI, old and new, can understand and use them. (In particular, firing delay 'charge up' mechanics, indirect fire using non-locking weapons such as Mech Mortars and two specific AC/20s, the "Rifle" weaponry, and two ranges on MGs [soft targets and hard targets]. Though its only necessary that the ally AI understand the difference for MGs unless I throw in friendly vehicles / infantry to use against the enemy. But unless crammed in as another party such as your employer providing support, you wouldn't realistically have that help.)
