I have only been playing for a week or so, but I have noticed that often a mech will just sit where dropped and take no action. Often the player is "No Name". Is this just someone who got disconnected, or had real life intrude and doesn't want to get a penalty for exiting the game?

I just left a match where there were two inactive mechs just sitting, although one had at least walked into the city before being abandoned, the other was still sitting where dropped.

Bring up the player list using Tab. If you see a player's state as DISCONNECTED, or you see their ping as zero, he's a disco.

Plenty of people also forget they have dropped or queue might have been so long that they are deep into youtube/***hub when match begins. Also some people might be so hammered they have forgot they have dropped, happened to me several times. Sometimes they activate when shot with a ppc or a little bit of machine gun tickling.

if you're an optimist: use ingame-voip and give em a friendly wake-up-call.

if you're a realist or pessimist: just deal with the fact that sadly, this is quite normal. you might wanna give in to the hope that the other side has similar problems. ;)

There’s also the chance that they think hiding in the drop zone while letting the rest of your team soften the enemy is a strategic maneuver for assault mechs. I’ve seen that cowardice on more than a few occasions.

true. and also true: it's a VERY stupid move.

yes, they might grab a few extra-kills (or more likely: _a_ kill, which they wouldn't normally); otoh the match is already lost at that point. so yeah: you might pad your kill-stat that way, the W/L-ratio tanks it, though.
it is plain stupid.
but.. this is mwo, and that's kinda like a social experiment "what stupid ideas will they come up with this match?"

Or if you want to give them a not-so-friendly wake-up-call:

Constantly toggle Lance <-> Company Command pre drop.

If someone is alt-tabbed, their ingame sound won't come through, at least mine won't, so this is completely useless as a "wake up"

If you add the following line to your user.cfg file you will:

s_NoFocusVolume = 1

I don't want in game volume when I'm alt-tabbed, just like most other people out there. Also since it's a config file setting, most people won't have it either, which means my original point stands: making noises in game to "wake" afkers up doesn't work.

true, doesn't hurt to try, ,though.

when I'm feeling "generous", I use comms for such a wake-up-call; "hey buddy in your slow-***-atlas.. wake up. game started, rest is nascaring away from you".
works every now and then.

when feeling less generous, an accidental shot to the leg does WONDERS to wake people up, too Posted Image

I find it does work when they're actually AFK as opposed to being tabbed-out.

It's the alt-tabbers I worry about, I mean seriously, can't you hold yourself for 2 minutes to find a match? (This is my thought process not an attack on you).

Better those than the ones who throw tantrums because of the map / mode chosen and then suicide by walking off the map immediately announcing to the enemy that you're fighting one mech down and thus they might be more likely to push harder against you. I was cleaning out old shadow play recordings of matches yesterday and found one of a rather well known "top player / streamer" doing exactly that. I didn't delete that one.

If it was a founder atlas just camping on spawn that is that pilot's mo. Consider it a disco and play as normal with your 11 team vs 12 team. Sometimes it even walks but not much else.

I'd rather have that than a "tactics expert" that loses more than he wins yelling into comms about how good his plan is and how bad the team sucks.

At Least the former gets out of my game.

Last spring, I was in a match on Rubellite in which two top players from a well-known comp group sync-dropped in a meta Cyclops-Sleipnir and an Annihilator 2A. During the ensuing battle, they stayed in the drop zone with their backs up against the cliff wall while the rest of us mooks marched out to the central portion of the map to fight it out with the Red Team. We called them out for shirking but they refused to budge or even acknowledge us.

The long and short of it was that we naturally got outgunned by the Red Team and was down 10 to 6 before these two jokers finally came out of the gate fresh and farmed the enemy's remaining six damaged mechs quite easily, taking the win and boosting their own stats. It felt very dirty and several of us PUGGers were disgusted in chat and VOIP by this kind of play, but the two comp guys never said a word back and disconnected to move on to their next match.

True story.

Pics or it didn't happen. I don't know any comp players that intentionally hide at spawn.
