I keep hearing about cold storage for many mechs, but arent you in a Leopard flying around space? How is this handled/explained?

Also, with drop limits, do they like say what the atmospheric pressure of each planet drop is to give *some* reason for the limit, or is it arbitrary? I remember MW2 Mercs had it set up where the employer is fitting the transport bill and thus sets the max tonnage, is there any nod to that?

You can have 12 active mechs and 50 in cold storage for … reasons.

Arbitrary.

Look, gameplay > lore fluff. You can make something up for the drop limits, but the real reason is to keep the content challenging so you don't just waltz into low tier missions with assault mechs and oneshot everything. Same reason for the active mech limit, since that presents a challenge when your trying to manage the 3x or 4x consecutive mission challenges which are where the big rewards are gained (since its quite hard to get enough salvage rights to claim an assault mech otherwise)

On that note, a small tip for consecutive missions. Remember that time passes during a mission, especially on the 4x ones you can normally fully repair the mechs you used in the 1st mission during the 2nd and 3rd missions.

But hey, for the sake of your own immersion, there's nothing from stopping you from picking a planet on the starmap as your 'base,' and always returning to it before moving mechs into or out of cold storage!

As for tonnage limits, it has to do with the specific density of the ground. Too much weight and you'll just sink!

1) No reasoning given.
2) Contract giver limits your drop weight. Reasoning not given. But multiple drops on the same planet permit different tonnages so it's unrelated to the planet.

One could guess that it has to do with what they're permitting, as all non-story missions are in ongoing conflict zones with multiple sides offering contracts, so it's the tonnage they will let you enter their conflict zones with -- in case if you turn on them?

The story overall is bare bones at best.
Adherence to lore is...lets just say they named some weapons as manufactured by planet names, named the highest tier burst fire AC/20 as "RNG [random number generator] RANGER"...and the lead technician complains about how useless his help is... he has no help aside from the machines, and he doesn't do any work. Your lead officer spends over 50 years without moving from a single spot.. and despite you being in charge you spend your life doing what she tells you.

Now, Commander Mason, it's time to give her a raise for making sure you have contracts to do while she stands there and tells you how to run your ship.
