Lets see:
Sunder - Kuritan omni mech -> scrap that one
Templar - Omni mech, but it is FC design at least -> scrap that one, too
Victor - Despite common misunderstandment (due to the name), it is a Capellan mech produced in St. Ives, which is part of our territory now -> expensive for you
So that means that only good Assault is made by your worst enemy and you will have to pay trillions to get him. Why don t you just use the mechs your neighbours like so much? What is so wrong about blue Atlas, Awesome, Zeus, etc.?
There are a few "good" (and period-appropriate) assault-class FedSuns 'Mechs and generally-available IS 'Mechs:
BattleMaster
Cyclops
Devastator
Longbow
Marauder II
Thug
A majority of FedSuns 'Mechs, however, seem to be concentrated in the medium, heavier-light, and lighter-heavy categories - assaults are simply not as flexible, role-wise, and mobility is as important - if not more so - than sheer firepower.
----------
Also, considering the fact that we are in the era of the Federated Commonwealth, perhaps FedSunners should/would get some discount on Lyran 'Mechs (relative to Capellans, Leaguers, Dragons, and Republicans/Vikings) with Lyrans likewise receiving a discount on FedSuns 'Mechs...?
In a similar vein, would/should the Concord of Kapteyn (between the Capellans, Leaguers, and Dragons) be honored and provide its participants with similar benefits?
And where does that leave the Republic and its trade relations?
Would/should any of those situations have an effect on relative 'Mech/component prices in MWO?

This has so much potential but it still could be a bust if they do not freshen up the strategic aspect of the game and bring in something we have no experience playing in the field.

Here are my preferences to pilot in each weight class-
Light- Wolfhound all the way. Not so much a scout as an anti-scout. Being a light means it is maneuverable enough to catch those pesky capellan ravens and kuritan jenners/panthers, and laser them to death with the WLF-1s (the only variant available until the clan invasions) large laser and 4 medium lasers. The fact that Flying Debris seems to be moving rear firing weapons to the front means the Wolfhound will be fairly potent now with all of its lasers facing forwards.
Medium- The Centurion, particularly the AH (AC/20 + LRM) despite its vulnerability to simply running out of weapons/ammo, or the CN9-D which is essentially an all round better version of the stock Centurion, complete with Artemis for its LRMs and LBX capability for its AC-10. Essentially a fantastic line mech, and lovely to look at once FD got at it.
Heavy- The Axman- Love its overall look, and it has all of the things I love in a solid line mech- AC/20? Check. A bunch of med lasers? Check. Symbolic Fedcom/Davion Mech? Check. To round it all out, it has a nice big hatchet, and is great for close up urban warfare. The jump jets are then an added bonus. Death from Above.... WITH AN AXE!
Assault- While I do like the Awesome and Stalker, the one that takes the prize for me is the Cyclops. Once again, it has an AC/20, one of my favourite weapons, but it rounds it out with med lasers, aswell as both an srm and lrm. It is to me the ultimate command mech, it is versatile and it can fight at any range. The stock Cyclops is nice, but the 11-A and 11-B are also pretty nice, fielding rediscovered star league gauss rifles.
As for what I think is likely to be in the game-
Light- Urbanmech
Medium- Centurion
Heavy- Warhammer,
Assault- Awesome
