I'm wondering about that and the multitude of 'mechs that don't even exist yet making it onto peoples lists.

I blame ignoarance of the source material, cases in point:

Lets see:

Sunder - Kuritan omni mech -> scrap that one

One of the main production facilites of the Sunder is on Crofton, a world in the ***-end of the Suns, ensuring that the AFFS gets some omni-loving.

None of those are time-line appropriate except the Blackjack, which is a 45 ton MEDIUM mech.

Well , I was always partial to mudkip as a starter, but the Urbanmech clearly trumps my outlandishness as shown below:

Been playing around with the wolfhound and.... its actually a fairly powerful mech for a light (depending on whether you get full weapon customisation or not). It can carry an ER PPC for petes sake. On a light. (ER PPC, 4 small ER lasers in MW4. Its also fairly durable.
So the wolfhound probably shouldn't be a starter- except maybe as a starter for the medium tree even.

The most basic light mech I can think of is the Flea (its basically just a bunch of lasers and flamers or machineguns on a pair of legs)

If only we could pick mechs from twenty years into the future! *sigh* Oh, well, Davion mechs it is!

Light: Javelin
Medium: Enforcer/Centurion
Heavy: Archer/Jagermech
Assault:Victor

I'd say the Hatchetman or Axman for a starter, but I think melee is out. And damn, but please, please let there be a Battlemaster! Oh ye Mech Gods, hear my plea!

You know the basic Wolfhound WLF-1 comes with a large laser and 4 mediums right? It's a little beat stick, near perfect hunter killer.
And the basic Flea FLE-4 is armed with a large laser and 2 small lasers, not bad for 20 tons, but House Davion doesn't produce them.

What's with the mentality that we have to start with something that sucks?

Depends on if they implement rearward firing weapons, otherwise the WLF-1 would be down to the large laser and 3 mediums in the chest plate.

Light : Commando/javelin/Valkyrie
Medium: Vindicator/Blackjack/Griffin
Heavy: Rifleman/Thunderbolt
Assault: Victor

Everything in the concept art has thus far has had all the rear mounted weapons remounted to forward.

In a perfect world, the Victor.

In an otherwise, less-perfect world, I'd happily take a Centurion, a Valkyrie, a Warhammer, or a Marauder.

So far the Centurion and the Atlas are the only 2 shown which carry rearward firing Medium lasers, of which the Centurion definitely has had it resited to the chest below the normal one.

I'm guessing the 2 dots in the CT on the atlas COULD be the resited rearward firing ones, with 1 more each on the fore arms (to give you the stock 4 mediums on the AS7-D )

If so, personally, I think they should code it so the mechs DO have the exact ones they would normally have. They did it in MPBT3025, and that is coding tech that is 10+ years old (although actually hitting anything with the rear ward medium was a bloody pain in the butt, no pun intended)

Well just have to wait and see for now.

Flipping to rear view and instantly trying to react in "mirror image" was definately a difficult task :P

I know, its just in the MW4 style customisation that everyone loves so much you can easily put stupid weapons on it. I am hoping that MW:O abandons that style of customisation and just goes for using the basic variants and nothing else.

An agricultural mech!
Maybe they learn to do some good and what it means to build up something before they try to destroy other peoples hard work. ;)

wolfhound is one of the best light mechs with adequate speed and good punch for a small mech...
