Now that the IIC mechs are on sale, what are the best bargains to buy??

Im eyeing up Skoll at the moment for the MASC, and maybe a Hunchback with those high hard points any other suggestions? Looking for something a bit different game play wise / nice hard points / quirks.

Thanks!

Check this: https://grimmechs.is...im.org/Database
There're some IICs in there.

Orion IIC-A makes for a decent brawler
Sköll is a bit more difficult yet servicable
Hunchback IIC has some nice variants, depending on what you like
Highlander Keeper is a brawlbeast

The Rifleman IIC has a neat LPL quirk that lets you fire 4 of them without incurring ghost heat, that makes it pretty unique... As does its total lack of armour and slow movement rate.

Hey, you wanted something different!

The IIC-A has a usable engine cap, and ghost heat can be avoided with half-second stagger fire. No JJ though. And what is this Highlander-IIC Cu Chulainn hero mech? Was it in some special giveaway or something?

Not that you should listen to me, my understanding is that the Hunchback IIC and the Marauder IIC are the better IICs in general.

You can make the prime variant work in both QP and FP, but I think it's better suited for FP because Nascar is the forever meta and you need some good positioning to make the mech work. Speed tweak it to 63 kmph and you'll stay ahead of the curb if you know how to position yourself in certain maps. I don't think it would have been kicking down any meta doors if PGI increased the base engine cap from 235 to 260. For that reason alone the IIC-2 and the IIC-A are better suited for most players that do not know how to play slow mechs.

Thinking of buying the Keeper and setting it up with 2xLB20X+4xSRM6A. Although I'm pretty sure my Scorch already does that loadout better..

The Scorch is the King of that build, I don't think any other 'Mechs run it as well. Unfortunately, the Marauder IIC is also 'uuuuge.

By the way, the LPL Rifleman IIC is one of the chassis best builds, 60kph is fine but it does require positioning like no other 'Mech, as Arnold said.

The Keeper can survive a little better if you don't run in first all alone. Plus, with a C-XL300, you can get quite a lot of heat sinking. If you can cope with the lopsided hardpoints, then I'd say that the Keeper is kind of better. The Scorch can be shot at from any angle and sticks out even if you think you're in cover. I've seen that happen a lot especially in maps like Mining. The Keeper might be tall but you can definitely twist and shield better. Plus that JJ helps in situations where you need it the most.

The Marauder IIC has arguably the best hitboxes out of all the IIC mechs. While the Keeper is still decent, I'd go with the Scorch since MAD-IIC's are extremely tanky no matter what role you throw them into.

Keep in mind, with the 235 engine cap your max speed without speed tweak is going to be 58.5 kmph. I run two Rifleman IIC Primes in QP that have an XL 205 (20 DHS) and a XL 235 (19 DHS) with both speed tweak. One goes 54.2 kmph while the other is maxed at 63 kmph. I found that the 20 DHS variant has consistently more DPS per game, but gets screwed over by Nascar, while the 63 kmph can position better and has a higher survival rate but runs alot hotter. If you are in a position where you cannot provide fire support properly, then you gotta keep moving with your team.

Sure I suppose it does have good hitboxes for a IIC 'Mech, but they're still big for the brawler loadout it carries. Since the guns are in the low slung arms you have zero choice but to engage with your whole profile showing, and if someone gets to your side your torsos will melt fast. But it IS good at punching holes in things, although I would prefer a Cyclops Sleipnir with LB10-Xs for my brawler Assault.

Speed twerk on the Rifleman IIC really does help, 63 is a heck of an improvement over 58 even though it doesn't seem like it. It must breach some threshold among other 'Mechs separating the Fafnir left behind from the mediums up front.

I like the MAD-IIC-A. I run it with 2xC-LB10-X and 4xC-MPL. Just remember to protect that right torso.

I prefer the Warhammy 2C the most, especially the one with the arm mounted LB10s. Have it on all 3 accounts. I much prefer the WHM IIC to the MAD IIC. You give up 5 tons but get armor and weapon quirks on all variants along with better base mobility values. The MAD-IIC-D is nice if you want an ECM assault to surprise someone with arm mounted LB10s or 20s, a couple arm mounted SRM or ATM, and a couple pulse lasers. Orion and Highlander IICs have ok structure quirks but no weapon quirks and their hit boxes are terrible. No real point to the Hunchie IIC when there's the vapour eagle in the game, and the Incubus is a lot more useful I think than the Jenner IIC.

Probably top tier IIC's you should be looking at are:
  • Orion IIC - Great NSR mech.
  • Rifleman IIC-2 - Throw on 6 AC2s, find a spot that'll hit people in the rear when they eventually nascar, and you'll be living the dream.
  • Marauder IIC - Pretty damn tanky. Scorch is amazing.
I've never been overwhelmingly impressed with a lot of the IIC variants. InnerSphere usually does it better just because their inherently more tanky.

Personal opinion.

MAD-IIC-D is almost obsolete since the introduction of Bloody Arse. Mostly agree on the Hunchie, apart from the fact that it can do 2*LB-20x, which is not what you can have on Veagle or pretty much any other Clan medium other than Lacerator (especially not with hill-poking hardpoints). Incubus is indeed better than Jenner-IIC, if not for that one splat build, but that is eclipsed with poor Jenny having this huge standin' willie of a hitbox.

there's some pretty 'meh' advice in here, sorry.

going for Jarl's and the OP, I'd advise you to stay away from the RiflemenIIC and the WarhamsterIIC in the first place;
they require much work to get them to a level most other mechs already are;

all the Hunchies (except the hero) are good, most of the MarIIC are excellent, Orions are beasts.

Jenners are meh, except the missile-spammer, which is GLORIOUS.

oh, and:

just no. I won't go into the whole sack of differences between the two, cause there's more than enough. not saying either one is better, they are just more than different enough that both are valid mechs.

Not true about the Rifleman IIC-2. It's a solid performer right out of the box with 6xlbx2's or 6xac2's. With minimal skill tree investments and the fact that the chasis isn't hindered by the 235 engine cap, it's arguably the best variant for QP and it's very noob friendly. Much more than compared to a Jagermech 5xac2 that would have to run an XL engine. The second contender would have to be the IIC-A since it has energy hardpoints in the ST's and isn't hindered by the low engine cap.

I'm not a big fan with what PGI did with the Warhammer IIC, but there are still some solid variants like the Warhammer-IIC2 which can be one hell of a missile boat. The Maul is also a pretty solid hero with alot of build variety. I'm running a 2xLBX10 + 2ERPPC build which has a solid alpha strike and good heat management.

@Rifle
See, there are plenty of other Mechs which are "noob-friendlier", so I really wouldn't call it that.

@Warhammer
Nah. ofc you can have decent builds on it. but same picture here: other mechs are just easier to handle.

I wouldn't give both chassis to anybody who still has things to learn - simply because they _will_ do better in other mechs.
or simple:
why bother with both of these when you can do better in an Onion or a MarIIC?

If you are looking for non-mechs and have some mech bays to spare, why not buy a few to test them out? Because they are on sale if you sell them you don't take a very big c-bill hit at all. I bought a RFL-3N by mistake and sold it right back and it cost me less than 100K c-bills, which is much less than what I 'earn' in a match. The IIC mechs don't require heat sink and/structure upgrades either which takes the sting out of testing them out. You can also strip them of equipment before you sell them in order to get engines/weapons at a discount.

Good hunting,

good point; if I remember correctly, 1+ Onions come with that handy 300 cXL; an excellent opportunity to get it cheap, if you need some of those.
