What is your preferred armament? What is your preferred playstyle?

I'm more interested in people's suggestions of what is a good mech variant and potential builds. I'm at a point skill wise where I can run most loadouts.

I keep hearing good stuff about the Roughneck. And the Jager as always been a favorite for dakka.

Personally, Catapult K2 is a fun one for me. Dual Gauss, LBX, or big AC, it can do some tanking. An LBX10/AC20 combo is pretty fun. Or maybe the newer catapult (C2?), I think it has Jump Jets? I mix them up.

I'll have to look up the variant... but Archers are good with MRM spam. I think its the 5w

Catapult-C2 is the new one that is an absolutely brutal brawler with 2LB10+4SRM2, 1JJ and a modest sized LFE.

Won't go wrong with a laservomit hellbringer, that is meta as hell. If you want to faction play as a clanner, another one for your dropdeck will be nice.

Timberwolf is okay, but master of none. Pick S though as it has a built-in JJ. But depending on your build such as puting dual ACs on the torso, go for something else because the only ballistic RT has 2 JJs anyways.

Orion IIC is good for packing heat, but isn't what made Clans good -- as in laser-vomit. ATMs and UACs are nice though.

Night Gyr is a 75-ton assault, it has the fire-power but also the poor mobility, and now it has even worse armor. Be wary if you choose this.

Roughneck is a solid choice for it's weight, then again its about in the middle of it's weightclass.

Linebacker is also good mobile heavy, but don't expect it to boat much payload, considering that it loses much for it's speed.

Sunspider is okay, it could boat a good amount of payload, has a thin strip of hitboxes so good with staredown dakka, no JJ though. If you have vanguard, don't bother.

Hellbringer, warhammer 6d (3ll 6ermed) or grasshopper 5h 2 hppc 5 mediums are the easy meta answer.

The problem with the laser-vomit meta-Mechs is that after some time it can get boring - at least in my experience. See the Grasshopper, for example. Is it good for energy weapons? Yes. But after running lasers game after game (with PPCs maybe) gets stale, there is nothing what you could do with that 'Mech because it is suitable only for that and for nothing else.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would recommend to think about taking a Clan OmniMech, preferably some that uses both Clan Endo Steel and Clan Ferro-Fibrous armor. So after running laser meta all the time gets old, you will have some good pod space to try something new. And combining various Omnipods with various hardpoints gives you ample opportunity to create your own personalized loadouts.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some people like the Hellbringer (65t), but I prefer the Cauldron-Born (65t). It has lower silhouette than the Hellbringer and it offers five more tons of the pod space to play with, if both 'Mechs are fully armored.

The only downside is that the Cauldron-Born can not mount ECM. But honestly, while useful, ECM is not the miracle box it used to be.

However, I have seen some people doing very well in the Hellbringer and its laser vomit can be deadly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Nova Cat (70t) and the Night Gyr (75t) are both similar 'Mechs, good if you prefer the firepower over speed.

Both 'Mechs have the same tonnage available for weapons and the same speed. Even their appearance is similar.

However, the Night Gyr comes with hard-wired Jump Jets, while the Nova Cat is more agile.

Fixed armor slots of the Night Gyr mean that you may have free tonnage, but not enough empty slots available to use it the way you would like to. On the other hand, if you want to have Jump Jets on your Nova Cat, you must use Omnipods that have them, whether you like their hardpoints or not.

And the Night Gyr can mount ECM, while the Nova Cat can not.

Some tough choices. Posted Image

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sun Spider (70t) and the Timber Wolf (75t) are similar 'Mechs too.

Both have the same speed 81 km/h. The Sun Spider offers slightly larger pod space, the Timber Wolf can have slightly more armor and has one more engine heat sink.

The Sun Spider can be equipped with ECM, the Timber Wolf can use Omnipods with Jump Jets.

As for the position of hardpoints, the Sun Spider has weapons around the cockpit, while the Timber Wolf can have some weapons well above the cockpit while having some other weapons in its low arms.

As for the shape of the 'Mech: Some players prefer the Sun Spider because its blocky appearance makes single sections of a 'Mech not so easy to target, while some other players prefer the bullet nose of the Timber Wolf.

Some tough choices. Posted Image

Boring is not the real problem. If I want 2 play a different kind of mech, I simply buy a new one suited better suited for the role. Otherwise u have 2 pay a lot for respec (Skilltree!!! and parts) and your quirks are not on point. I prefer my mechs to be specialist (esp on IS where u depend on quirks) and not jack of all trades.

But I am space rich so prob quite different perspective. If u want something more unique. Take a look at cataract 3d with 2 uac10 and 4 medium lasers. Nice jam and armor!!!! quirks, some different load outs possible. Ofcourse it comes with downsides (low arms! broad)

CTF-3D Cataphract used to be one of the most popular heavy 'Mechs in MWO.

If I were you i'd only be looking at mechs that aren't also currently 50% off in their C-bill price. Especially if you already own some variants of them.

That caveat narrows my picks down to:

Night Gyr- Basically a bigger nova cat with some decent ballistic build options, and missile build options. However if you want to go in on beams I'd probably just use the nova cat. The gyr lacks the nova cat's heat scale quirk making the nova better for large laser builds and nova-B is a better missile boat(since it actually has more hardpoints to work with) but otherwise the gyr is probably a safer option. Variant is pretty optional since you'll likely want to mix omnipods to lean into a build type but I'd probably get the PRIME or the C variant.

TimberWolf or Linebacker: Let's be real the linebacker is basically a timby 2.0(it was litterally designed to replace timby's) so they do basically the same things Linebacker is faster but timby tends to pack a bigger punch. That said the linebacker can become an absolutely vicious laser vomit build(Start with the C and swap the right side omniparts.), while the timby is more versatile, either way variant becomes moot since you'll be mixing omnipods.Though it's worth mentioning the TBR-S is the only one with JumpJets if you want those, and the LBK-H is the only linebacker that can use jumpjets.

Personally I'd get a timby(probably a C or S) or a linebacker(C variant) because those have been on my list of things to get that I keep putting off getting because then I'll have finished my collection of clan wolf mechs(ones in the game anyway) and then I'll need another carrot to chase...or i'll have to just start collecting all the variants i'll never use of each one.

Alternatively I'd get a rifleman because I've always liked the design and it's not terrible as long as it remembers it's a fire support and not a front liner...that and Rotary's are fun.

Not quite correct. The Timberwolf S is the only only Timberwolf to mount JJs in its stock omnipod configuration. Any Timberwolf can use the right and/or left torso omnipods to gain access to JJs; the S variant is the only one that has a JJ in the center torso, though.
Same with the Linebacker H, which is uniquely equipped with JJs only in its stock omnipod configuration, but any Linebacker can equip a H left and/or right H-sidetorso and gain access to JJs.

I think with Phase one and two overlapping right now until the 3rd November, every available chassis is for sale at 50%

And finally, Galahad, if you'd tell which ones you already own, it would be much easier to recommend a pick. Posted Image

Or, you could just get the most expensive mech and sell it to buy something else. I believe the TBR-Prime is the most expensive of the bunch. Don't know if you need to wait until after the event to get the full value.

Good hunting,

Quote

catapult
A1, 6xASRM6 . It's a silly amount of alpha for an IS 65 tonner.

Quote

dragon
5N, 3xUAC2 Dakka

Quote

hellbringer
Prime. You can do the meta laservom build on it, or you can use the SO8 to run 2xHLL+3xHML which is kinda fun if that's your thing.

Quote

jagermech
DD, 5-6 AC2 or 2xUAC10 or 3xUAC5 all viable.

Quote

linebacker
6xMPL. H if you want to cluster lasers in your torso (at the expense of an armor quirk there), but you can do a side-shielding variation on any other variant if you prefer.

Quote

marauder
3R for 3xRAC2 (ranged BRRRRRT) or UAC20+4xML (brawl) 9M for MRM80+ECM (again brawl, just a different approach)

Quote

orion
VA. 4xSRM6+UAC20 or 4xASRM6+AC20. Brawly as hell.

Quote

orion iic
A. 4xASRM6+UAC20 or 4xASRM6+LB20 . Not as armored as the IS version but faster.

Quote

rifleman
3N. 2xUAC10 but TBF the Jager does this better.

Quote

roughneck
2A UAC20+MRM40, 1B MRM80 or 3A 6MPL+1LPL All RGHs have the durability of an assault mech thanks to their overlaid structure and armor quirks.

Quote

thunderbolt
5SS 6xMPL+1LPL . Not perfect but decent.

Quote

warhammer
6R 2xUAC10+4xML for dakka, 9D 6MPL+1LPL for something that's mobile enough to keep up with the nascar meta and still clean a few clocks along the way.
