It paid for every cent of MW5 development at the expense of MWO. To be fair, it didn't pay **** to the community dude who fixed MW5 for PGI.

So what he meant was, yes MW5 generated good revenue for the company, but not enough to help with the costs of developing our new IP.

I really hope derion comes on a podcast and explains the situation.
I dunno whether to be really excited or to freak the heck out.
This is both the best and worst case senario when it comes to updating mwo as discussed in my thread.

I dont know how to feel. You guys. Please reassure me that mwo is going to get even more awesome. Please.

No mention of new IP being worked on.

Haha you poor soul. NASCAR is alive and well in Elite, except there are no tracks, only endless space to orbit doing shoot/FA off/boost until someone runs out of modules to cannibalize for reboot/repair. GG.

You folks on this Forum are 100% correct...

Some have asked for new owners for this MechWarrior IP that we are playing...

And now we have it!

Others are also 100% correct, that we should be careful of what we wish for from PGI...

Given the track record of double-talk from PGI, this is probably the motivation behind the "renewed interest" in MWO. Like putting new drapes in your house before selling it. Probably by this time next year, assuming the deal goes thru, MWO will be discontinued.

Oh god I should rick roll you for dredging up that old money pit idea, but I guess it shows that PGI has had a long standing interest in mothballing MWO from the very beginning?
IMO with 65 developers that should be plenty to continue developing their 2 existing games.
For comparison Hello Games is reputed to now have 26 devs and worked on No Man's Sky, and also came out with The Last Campfire this year.

Spoiler

Well, no.

Microsoft is still the owner of MechWarrior IP, exactly as it has been since 2000.

PGI and their new owners EG7 have only a limited-time licence with 4-5 years left.

Well interesting I suppose. I don't hold out much hope that it will improve things.

There is a whole load of justified salt when it comes to PGI, but for what it is worth my impression has always been; That Russ genuinely loves the IP, but has not had the skills or finances to make of it what he wants. The nature of the licencing arrangement means that Mechwarrior can't be the only thing that PGI makes money off as Microsoft might pull the rug from under them at any point.

So if there is a new IP it is because they are planning for revenue in 5 years time when the licence is up for renewal. It doesn't mean that they are dropping Mechwarrior, because I think Russ does like the IP.

Do I think that PGI is the perfect place for Mechwarrior? Probably not, but I don't see other companies fighting to take it on and it had been left on the shelf for too long.

I hope PGI has a hit on consoles with MW5 as that might mean people wanting to take on Mechwarrior again and increased interest means better investment (or even a big studio taking the IP).

CPU - AMD-7700k - Quad core at 3.4Ghz
GPU - Integrated R7 250 w/ 1GB CrossFired with an external R7 250 w/ 2GB
RAM - 7GB (8 physical but one is reserved for the integrated GPU) @ 1200MHz

And the disc drive is an XBOX 360 external HD-DVD drive even though I don't own any HD-DVDs, not even King Kong Posted Image

Eccentric I know.
