Why can't we have just the 'mechs?

Don't get me wrong, I freaking /HATE/ clan BS tech... but if that was my fav mech with that load out and I couldn't actually pilot that mech.... I wouldn't even bother playing it. It defeats the point. It is like taking some other 75 ton mech and slapping two PPCs and a SRM 6 rack on it and calling it a Warhammer. It really isn't a Warhammer, no matter how close I make it to a Warhammer. This is the same thing, but opposite. I get to pilot a Timberwolf, but it really isn't a Timberwolf.

You could make it cost real money and it wouldn't matter. Making it cost more doesn't stop it from being better.

And if the balancing is not quite right and they are over powered, so be it. Only adds to the immersion
I would be completely fine to wok hard for finally geting hold of some clan tech. But once I do, I want it to be worht the trouble!

Err...Clan Tech Level 2 =/= IS Tech Level 2. The technological imbalance is always there.
And for whatever reasons the Dragoons never gave the IS any blueprints for Clantech.
Probably because they wanted to keep their edge against others. New Star League and clan invasion aside they were a merc corp. Selling blueprints to the weapons ( and manufacturing methods) that made them better then their competitors would have been bad for businees. And they probably didn´t even have them all. If you send a long term undercover team you might give them equipment superior to that of the ones you want to infiltrate.. but the blueprints for it? and the factories?

Some weapons don't generate much heat, some don't take up as much space, some plainly do more damage.
Throwing away the Clan technology concept away from this game would be a crucial mistake. It's one of the fundamental concepts of MechWarrior : getting your hands on Clan tech if you're an IS MechWarrior will turn the tides.
I suggest making Clan Tech available as a reward then, based on skill level, or something along the lines. That should satisfy everyone.

While agree with you on most of your post, making clan tech obtainable only to the upper echelon - the seriously elite - would put them *further* ahead of everyone else. Maybe instead once the clans come out, once a day you have a chance to get a piece of clan tech as a random chance (the old card choice maybe?), so then it's a lot fairer on everyone - just comes down to luck. I don't much fancy a new player (of which I plan to bring a few of into the MWO 'verse) going against someone who's both got skill and tech ahead of them. Being nuked when there's nothing you can do about it isn't fun.

I play Mechwarrior for the mechs. I have no favorite mechs so there is no emotional basis in my following suggestions in order to add clan mechs in a balanced yet accurate way.
ALL of the following items would need to be added simultaneously! Not a single one alone would solve the problem.
1. Make clan tech more expensive because IT IS MORE EXPENSIVE. (Emphasis not yelling
2. Make server control of IS and CLAN mixing. This way a server could make:
- IS vs CLAN matches (maybe with uneven team numbers)
- CLAN vs CLAN matches
- IS vs IS matches
- and mix matches where each player can use whatever they want
On top of all of this the server host should be able to restrict any weapons, chasis, or systems just like they could in MW4.
3. Get over yourselves. Seriously, everyone is acting elitist with their mechs as if they made the original mech design. Don't get so caught up in story, chasis, or timelines that you stop yourself from being able to have fun.

Clan tech can be made balanced. Jsut make it SO expensive to repair that people will not use their clan mechs on more than 1 ever 5 matches.

that exactly.
make 5 clanners fight 8 or even 12 IS mechs.. or just use the BV system.. its there and its pretty good.. so let a uller come up vs 70 ton mechs.. and it wont be that op anymore..

As far as IS getting Clan tech, instead of actually salvaging parts. You could earn "SP" Salvage Points, which in turn could be used to buy Clan tech items as they become available to IS.
